Finish the fight in Rainslick 3

Written by mancide on 01 July 12 at 19:02

Penny Arcade's Rainslick 3 has had an interesting journey to your Xbox. This week's Indie Game Spotlight title finishes up the story started by the previous two Xbox LIVE Arcade titles of the same name.

Rainslick 3 melds nostalgic 16-bit era graphics, with a modern game design to bring you the best entry in this series. Complete with the long-winded humor you expect from Tycho and Gabe, this game expands on the lore set in the first two titles.

Cthulu Saves the World developer Zeboyd Games has brought us a game reminiscent of RPGs from the Super Nintendo era, melded with the razor sharp wit of Penny Arcade. A thoroughly revamped combat system makes this entry play distinctly different from the two previous titles in the series. Fans of the comics will not be disappointed. Fans of classic RPGs will not be disgruntled. Fans who lie in the overlapping cross-section of the Venn diagram for these two traits will not be able to contain themselves.

The streamlined combat system keeps the pace fast and, most importantly, fun. The updated take on classic class types makes this a truly a modern game. If it seems like I'm throwing a lot of praise at this game, it's because quite simply this is one of the best indie titles to come to the Xbox Live Indie Games platform.

This highly praised game does not come cheap, however. Priced at 400 MSP, this is quite frankly, the most expensive Indie Games title we have highlighted. But don't let the steep price-point turn you away, this game will entertain you well beyond the $5 you have invested in Rainslick 3 to add it to your collection.

If you have an Xbox Live Indie Game that you feel should be featured in an edition of the Indie Games Spotlight, please PM your suggestions to mancide.

This would have made a far better Xbox Live arcade game than the past two combined. Oh well we all know why it wasn't meant to be =(

Anyways I never touch lame-ol indie games but this well worth a peek. The game just looks amazing in just 2 screenshots haha

why make the 3rd one a indie game? did the other two not sell to well? Is this just going to be a indie game, and not come to xlba?

This reminds me of stuff I used to make and play in the RPG Maker series if anyone remembers those. Kind of cool to see the old school RPG style though.
Dog of Thunder - Just finished the craziest Warmachine game ever. 4v4, then 3v2, then 2v1, and I somehow won.

RedemtionOWNAGE said:why make the 3rd one a indie game? did the other two not sell to well? Is this just going to be a indie game, and not come to xlba? It's not financially worth it to come to XBLA.

Zeboyd Games detailed this in an interview with Gamasutra I believe, but because Microsoft makes publishers wait for "slots" to open for XBLA, it's nearly impossible to release a game across multiple platforms without a big name developer behind it.

The way the XBLA marketplace is currently set up, for non-event titles (meaning, not Summer of Arcade, House Party, Next, whatever), it's very hard for games to get noticed. Sales are down across the board outside of MS event releases. So far down in fact, most developers are AVOIDING XBLA releases and going straight to iOS or Steam.

Zeboyd is releasing this as an indie game as an afterthought, they are focusing primarily on Steam, frankly, I don't blame them.

This is SAD, indeed. cry

IMHO XBLA made 360 great with such variety and quality titles... they should put efforts into making XBLA a launch platform for indie devs (super time force!) instead of making an obstacle out of it.
