Telltale's Future Plans For The Walking Dead

Telltale's Future Plans For The Walking Dead

Also, a release window for Episode 3

Written by N0T PENNYS B0AT on 08 July 12 at 04:32

After a delay that drove gamers hungry for the brains of Telltale Games, The Walking Dead "Episode 2 - Starved for Help" finally released a few days ago to mostly stellar reviews, just like the first episode. Telltale's episodic series has been a commercial and critical hit so far, so the news that they will be doing another game set within the universe sometime after season one shouldn't come as a surprise, though it will surely please fans of the ongoing saga.

Telltale revealed the news exclusively to The Verge that sometime after these five episodes have concluded, they intend on doing another game, though not necessarily another episodic season. They didn't go into many specifics as it's all very preliminary, but now gamers know where the unique development studio is going next with their time and resources.

In related news, the studio also announced that after these first five episodes have been released via XBLA, they will be coming in a boxed, retail version (in North America). That could both frustrate gamers who only bought it digitally because of the format's exclusivity or please gamers who have waited or don't download arcade games. No release dates for the retail copy were announced, but anything sooner than late this year is unlikely given the release calendar of season one.

Lastly, for those of you who can't wait to continue Lee and Clementine's story, you can reserve some Microsoft Points now in anticipation of "Episode 3 - Long Road Ahead". Telltale apologized to fans for the delayed release of Episode 2 and confirmed that Episode 3 will be ready for release in the middle of August, though that window cannot take into account the time spent in certification, so let's hope this next episode releases more quickly than the last.

Well you figure 400 points a pop ($5 each) at 5 episodes is $25. I'm sure the retail disc will be $20 at least, so unless you want to save $5 over the next year then just get them as they come out.

Hmm, honestly im glad im waiting for them to release them altogether. The episodes just seem so spaced out, i dont think i could start it now and wait a month for the next one. However with all the great things ive heard about it and im loving the graphic style they chose, i will definetly be picking this up. toast

In other words, there'll always be somebody whining. facepalm

I really enjoyed both released episodes - they were better than season 2 of the TV series, IMO. I will be looking forward to episode 3. clap

I already have two, will have wasted (technically, but not exactly because the episodes are so good) $10, so I won't get the disc. But I will continue getting the episodes. Episode 2 was pretty good, I kinda guessed the big twist pretty early, so that threw it off a little.

I knew there was going to be a retail compilation of the episodes. Assuming a $20 release, I'd take disc, manual, case, and promo items over digital release any day.
