TA Gaming Stats - July 2nd to July 8th 2012

By Dog of Thunder, 4 years ago
After a bit of a hiccup last week while I was on vacation in the sunny state of Massachusetts, the Stats are back this week! Just in time for nothing of interest!

This report is for the period July 2nd to July 8th 2012.

Recent releases fill out the top end of the chart though both Spec Ops: The Line and The Amazing Spider-Man are remarkably close yet again. Both titles have yet to crack 3k total gamers which is actually par for the course regarding June retail releases. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw also followed the same trajectory, with each of those titles now around 6k total gamers.

Max Payne 3 and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier have each slowed after hitting 16k total gamers. It's looking like the ceiling for each of these will be just over 20k gamers. Dead Island (Xbox 360) is being bolstered by the recent Game of the Year edition.

Games Started
19,187 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 37,814 games between them (1,709 different games).

I love Spelunky. Something about it appeals to me on a deep, primal level. I am glad to see that I was not alone in picking this one up. Sadly, Spelunky is number 1 this week due to a technicality.

The Walking Dead (Xbox 360) was far and away the most popular XBLA game of the week, but because further episodes are being released as DLC, it slips past the Most Popular XBLA Game chart.

Shoot Many Robots, Trine 2 and Nexuiz were all on sale resulting in the sudden re-appearance of games from a few months ago.

Top Arcade Games Started

This list acts as confirmation that the Windows Phone is finally starting to hit its stride as a gaming platform. Take a look at the number of puzzle games on this list, all of which are rated with at least 3 stars by the TA community.

Newcomer Mush (WP) leads the pack with its truly unique graphics. Looking at [Some Loveable Mush Screenshots[UPDATE][/url] of the game in action remind me of a Salvador Dali painting. Bejeweled Live (WP), one of the older games available for the Windows Phone, was recently on sale.

Games Completed
8,336 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 11,462 games between them (1,134 different games).

8,336 gamers completed a game this past week. That is under 5% of the total TA community. It's almost as if everyone was simply starting games and earning one achievement. Though the possibility that everyone was busy playing the "Dawnguard" DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is alive and well as 1,136 gamers have completed Skyrim.

Amazingly, Lollipop Chainsaw and Mass Effect 3 tied with the exact same number of completions this week. Less amazing? The Amazing Spider-Man, which will likely appear on this chart throughout the rest of the Summer. I believe the first week completions for this title were blunted by the 2012 Bean Dive event.

Top Retail Games Completed

This is the chart that The Walking Dead will be dominating now that each episode counts as DLC. Considering "Episode 2" was released on a Friday and these stats were collected the following Sunday, 1,447 is a VERY impressive number. Will anyone be shocked to learn that The Walking Dead will top this chart for the next few weeks?

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is not out of steam just yet, though it has yet to hit a 30% completion rate, I suppose 29.23% will have to do. My old nemesis, Harms Way, continues to haunt me. I have now accepted that this game is going to be here every single week until the Mayan Apocalypse.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Mush is the only game to top the Most Started chart and the Games Completed chart for its respective platform. Gerbil Physics (WP) is right behind with a healthy 33% completion rate, which would be more impressive if the average completion rate for a WP title wasn't in the low 70's.

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
51,260 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 640,310 achievements online between them (44,903 different achievements).

The numerous "Dawnguard" achievements here simply prove one thing: Vampires are more popular than werewolves. That and these achievements confirm an awful lot of you were busy returning to the world of Skyrim this week, taking advantage of the complete lack of new retail titles I'd imagine.

Top Retail Achievements Won

At first, I was going to congratulate Spelunky for breaking up the dominance of The Walking Dead. Then I realized that "Episode 2" only added 8 new achievements.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Mush not only pulls off a sweep, but nearly gave me a heart attack when I thought just for a second, the game really had 9 million collectibles. Some day, some designer will put an endless number of collectibles in a game just to really mess with people.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

This chart seems to be the typical order of the TA gaming universe. Is anyone else impressed that routinely the top few spots will have millions of TA even in a bland release week like this one? I think it's impressive.
