Now you too can say, 'I'm Spartacus'

Ubisoft today announced that they have a new game heading to consoles that will mostly feature burly men in skirts getting very sweaty, yelling a lot, and jabbing at each other. No, it's not Assassin's Creed III: Revelations in the Brotherhood or London 2012: Ancient Greek Style, the game in question is Spartacus Legends.

Inspired by the hit US swords-and-sandals TV show, Spartacus Legends will be a visceral, arena-based fighting game. Gamers will be able to work their way up the gladatorial food chain with customizable and upgradeable fighters and thousands of deadly weapon combinations. As well as playing as the eponymous slave-freer, players will be able to step into the shoes of his trusted ally, Crixus, or create their own beefcake warrior and face off in offline and online multiplayer modes with ranked leaderboards.

Current Spartacus actor Liam McIntyre has lent his likeness and voice to the game and, according to Ubisoft, "played early builds of the game and provided his creative feedback throughout the development process." Wow, Spartacus himself - a gamer - who knew?

As well as all these details, we also get treated to a whole chalice full of screens for the game, showing off the abundant blood-letting for which the series is known.

Spartacus Legends is due in early 2013. The game will also be presented and playable at the San Diego Comic-Con over the next few days.

Sweet zombie Jesus, it's about time! The last gladiator game I played was Road To Freedom on the PS2. I actually bought the console just for that game. Hopefully this doesn't suck, I'm really looking forward to it.

Soul Calibur with gore looks OK
hope they improve the graphics before actual release
I know graphics arent everything but for a game thatll take place in a couple arenas they should be able to at least outclass Assassins Creeds graphics seriously (note that theres about 5-7 character models in the stands)

I've only seen Season 1 (no Gods of the Arena just yet), but the show is a trashy good time in ancient Rome. As opposed to the actual show Rome, which was a political good time in ancient Rome.

Just arena combat? Sounds like it could get pretty boring. Hopefully the customization and weapon options are pretty deep. Might still be worth it then.

Since the press release only lists "consoles", the Game Info team has not created a game page for this just yet. Until the tech guys make one, the 'hounds use existing achievement icons.

Thankfully, Fable 2 and 3 have GREAT icons that we tend to use over and over and over and over...

Actually, that'd be a fun game. Like Deus Ex, where your choices affect the story.

I love Spartacus ! I hope this is good, but there won't be as much boobs as in the TV show.
