TA Gaming Stats - July 9th to July 15th 2012

By Dog of Thunder, 4 years ago
A week with new releases! Woohoo! Let's get right down to business.

This report is for the period July 9th to July 15th 2012.

Games Started
17,795 TrueAchievements gamers started a total of 31,283 games between them (1,711 different games).

NCAA Football 13 provided the US some relief from the new release drought. Is it available in Canada? I suppose I could look this up but that would require research and given my day job, I choose not to do research on a Saturday night. Regarding research, it would seem Spec Ops: The Line is making waves with its focus on story. None of my friends that have played it have had anything bad to say about the story, the cover system and actual shooting sure, but for a shooter to get such praise for its plot? That's something to take note of.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and Batman: Arkham City (Xbox 360) may get a bump from The Dark Knight Rises being out in theaters. Dead Island (Xbox 360) continues to enjoy a boost from the Game of the Year edition while Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary remains....Halo.

Zuma's Revenge! is not a huge hit, but given how it appeared out of nowhere on the marketplace, topping the arcade chart is a success. Quantum Conundrum is close behind along with the third game to be released this week, Dungeon Fighter LIVE: Fall of Hendon Myre. During the lean Summer months, just before the Summer of Arcade hits, breaking 400 in one week is a mild success.

Kinect PlayFit is the arcade game that gives you achievements for earning achievements in other games. It's like an MC.Esher painting that goes "bloop" whenever you look at a different layer.

Toy Soldiers: Cold War, Hydrophobia and The Splatters all placed thanks to a sale. Spelunky continues to hang tough, but as it cracked 2k gamers this week, I believe it will soon drop off the chart and never be seen again.

The amount of hate on my friend feed for Glu Mobile, the developer of Gun Bros (WP) and http://www.trueachievements.com/Contract-Killer-WP-xbox....htm, makes me think they're in the business of kicking puppies. If anyone has played these games and can add something positive to the conversation, I'd be grateful.

Mirror's Edge (WP) is an exclusive to Nokia phones, which has to be significantly cutting into the available audience. In fact, beyond the new release and the DotW (Plants vs. Zombies (WP)), no Windows Phone game was really popular this week.

Games Completed
6,958 TrueAchievements gamers completed a total of 9,628 games between them (1,112 different games).

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is bolstered by the "Dawnguard" DLC for a second straight week. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, with a 26.03% completion rate doesn't appear to be as annoying a completion as some of theLEGO Star Wars titles, so that completion rate will rise dramatically in the following weeks. Battlefield 3 has more DLC arriving soon, which means it will rise back to the top of the chart.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is still showing the effects of the Games on Demand sale, though it might just be the GTASC heating up.

Top Retail Games Completed

The Walking Dead (Xbox 360) continues to dominate. Interestingly enough, prior to the "Episode 2" DLC, over 11,000 gamers had completed The Walking Dead. A few weeks after "Episode 2" hit the marketplace, that number is only at 7,238. Clearly a significant portion of the community has not purchased the "Episode 2" DLC despite it being available for the same low price of 400 MSP.

Top Arcade Games Completed

Collapse! (WP) completion watch update! 191 gamers away from 100% completion!

Mush (WP) leads the chart, which is to be expected of a recent release. Doodle God (WP), after appearing on the chart for months, has finally cracked a 50% completion rate. None of them can come close to MonstaFish (WP) though, which is clearly the number 1: "Game name that could also be used for a SyFy movie."

Top Windows Phone Games Completed

Achievements Won
42,140 TrueAchievements gamers won a total of 564,581 achievements online between them (45,206 different achievements).

It's a battle between NCAA Football 13 and the "Dawnguard" DLC for Skyrim. I think we should just all be impressed that even during an "off" week for releases, the TA Community unlocked over half a million achievements.

Top Retail Achievements Won

I'm a little surprised that Quantum Conundrum did not get even 1 achievement on this chart while Zuma's Revenge has 2 achievements. The Walking Dead dominance makes sense, though I'm assuming the answer to "Guess who's coming to dinner?" is not Jeffery Dahmer.

Top Arcade Achievements Won

Free-to-play title popular on mobile platform! In related news, water is wet.

Top Windows Phone Achievements Won

The ease with which millions of TA points are unlocked each week will never cease to astound me. You will note that as people have completed Minecraft, the entire Simulation genre has dropped off a cliff, presumably while riding a pig.
