I've heard of a few, but not this one, seems like a good cause though.

I confused as well but I'd guess that anyone can join, as its a charity event and they would want to raise as much as possible. |

The tourny is open to everybody. After all, each of us may have, or already has somebody close to us that has had, is living with or has survived one of these two types of cancer.

They are becoming more and more popular. Specifically in smaller communities in order to raise money for athletic equipment and away games.
I have also just learned of another event to raise research funds for cancer (pediatric cancer) at the Texas Children's Hospital. Sarcasticgamer.com's 'Extra Life' is also an annual event that takes place this weekend.

oh snap! Wasn't a community events board in the works? |

| Please keep in mind that if you aren't able to participate you can still donate. It is a very good cause and would encourage all to participate. |

To be completely honest, I never thought I'd say this, but the mainstream is so incredibly sexiest. You hear about these big planned events for breast and cervical cancer awareness all the time, and yet the only time you ever hear about testicular or prostate cancer is when your friend ended up with it or someone wants to complain about how bad the Canadian or European health care systems are.
Everyone is always "Save the Boobs!" How about someone try "Save the Balls!" for once? |

This really bugs me too. Especially the Cancer Research 'Race for Life' thing that happens over here. It's a woman only sponsored run, and there's no bloke only equivalent. Apparently it's all about 'celebrating surviving cancer or remembering those who didn't'. Why it has to be woman only really puzzles me. Pretty sure men get cancer too. |

Yeah, my wife recently did the race for life and we were saying the same thing. Strange how it's just women. If men were allowed to enter then I would have done it with her to support her.
I think it's because it was originally for breast cancer but then changed to cancer research in general. It still remains women only though which is strange, I reckon they may change that in the coming years. |

Sexist for sure, but men are the victims of their own sexist behavior in this case. Jokes aside, next to Lung cancer breast cancer is the most pervasive form of cancer out there, and the second most deadly. Testicular cancer has an 85% recovery rate with minor chemo treatment. With 7000 cases a year as apposed to 200,000 instances of breast cancer. I'd say it's a bigger deal.
There are some guys out there making a difference, gotta give props to those Marines from Camp Lejeune stirring up awareness about Male Breast Cancer.

We do something called Tacheback in Newcastle (Might just be an Npower thing).
Basically all the blokes grow a beard, and then, on a pre-decided date, we all cut in funky mustaches for the day. The whole point of it is to raise awareness for Testicular Cancer. |
