Video Games Live in New Orleans

Broadcast to follow on PBS

The ever growing popularity of the Video Games Live concert series has given cause for a steady increase in the number of performances, from 3 in it's initial year to a whopping 70 concerts internationally this year. This popularity has caught the attention of PBS. So much so that the February 5th, 2010 performance at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra will be taped and made into a PBS special. Scheduled to air sometime the following summer.

However, if you live in New Orleans, why wait to see something on television that you can experience live? Tickets for the event go on sale tomorrow, December 18th at the very affordable price of 15$. Even the most frugal of gamers could manage that.

Video Games Live was started by video game composers Tommy Tallarico (Earthworm Jim, Prince of Persia) and Jack Wall (Myst, Mass Effect). The first performance was done on July 6, 2005 at the Hollywood Bowl, where the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra performed to an audience of 11,000 people. Music from various eras of video game history are performed, such as Final Fantasy, Halo, World of Warcraft, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Legend of Zelda, Bioshock, Metal Gear Solid and the list goes on. As for classics, audiences have seen and heard performances of Asteroids, Tetris, Frogger, Space Invaders and many others. In addition to this, audience members are invited to come up onto the stage and play games like Guitar Hero or even Space Invaders while the orchestra plays the soundtrack live. Guest composers often make appearances and perform live, the blindfolded pianist Martin Leung, Hideo Kojima, Koji Kondo, Lorne Lanning, Yuji Naka, Marty O’Donnell, and Ted Price have appeared in past events and most recently Silent Hill director/composer Akira Yamaoka in Taiwan. It all looks pretty awesome, and if it ever comes to my hometown of "Hogtown", I'll definitely be there.

This sounds good.

The 2007/2008 one (which ever year GH4 came out) featured Funtwo, the guy who does canon and summer presto remakes on youtube, playing a few Satriani songs with Joe himself while a guy played the songs in GH4

Actually i think that was Youtube Live, IDK

EDIT:Sorry my comp screwed up and posted the same thing 3 times. Sheesh

@Cheese:For the same reason you go to a concert, when you could just listen to the CD at home for free, the thrill of hearing it played live, and seeing it played live.

I wonder if the FF songs will include the Guitar remakes of One Winged Angel from Advent Children

When it should have been held in denmark over a year ago, they had to cancel the concert because they didnt sell enough tickets.

- and I was promised free tickets in return for writing an article about it for a big danish gamingsite.
