Just a quick word regarding avatar awards - the undead hero T-shirt will unlock after getting 30 characters. Just play through stages, it should unlock after a few plays (and guides are there too).
The other one is the undead hero helmet and is trickier to get. In arcade mode, you need to kill 360 characters. The issue here is that it's a stupid you'll-die-in-seconds-no-matter-what melee. Bearing this in mind, you might as well opt for a character who does a lot of damage in no time. After reading a few comments, and after a few tries, I chose the sky spirit with the following technique: start by unleashing Y (or UP+Y?), that is NOT his giant beam but the fire wave on the ground. You may repeat it a few times both ways but make sure you escape with a double-jump going either left or right (double tap + Y works well too for a quicker, safer escape) and while double-jumping press DOWN + X: it'll send a freezing beam efficiently paralyzing most of the crowd, giving you time to unleash another fire wave. Rinse, repeat, hit them a bit with your claws, it looks as if your mana regenerates while doing that and play conservatively. If even a smurf decides to melee-bungie jump you, you'll really die in seconds, no matter what.
Gamefaq provides characters move lists, 360 Achivements good advice, but I had to find it this one out by myself after being repeatedly slaughtered by a rainbow of goons.
The Earth spirit felt too slow and I scored a decent amount of casualties with Han the Hero, but not enough. Note that I unlocked the helmet with 354 kills, the game is generous...

Spellers This isn't a review, should probably consider moving it into the forums.
