Skylanders, Obviously a game marketed towards little kids but under the game's kiddie exterior lies a fun and addicting game. Skylanders is truly an innovation in the gaming industry. It takes real-life figures and scans a chip hidden within them and actually scans them into the game. At first glance I saw this game's potential, I only wished it had a more mature theme. Regardless I bought it and gave it a shot. I was instantly hooked. The game is fun and the controls are easy to learn, though it does not provide too much of a challenge I found myself playing it far more than I thought I would. Gameplay- Gameplay is simple. Each Skylander starts with 2-3 basic attacks which as you level up that character can be upgraded. Surprisingly levels don't seem too tedious or repetitive and none of the 32 unique characters feel the same. The game does a good job of encouraging you to buy more figures without actually forcing you to so those of you who don't want to invest any more money than you have to can complete the game using the 3 standard characters shipped with the game. Enemy variety also surprised me. A large number of adversaries with different skills and attacks leaves combat always feeling fresh.
Graphics- Graphics aren't phenomenal but they are on par with most other Xbox 360 titles. I have never experienced any frame rate drop or noticeable bugs. no complaints here.
Sound- Music is beautifully orchestrated and fits nicely into the game. Mix that with well known voice actors such as Patrick Warburton ( voice of Joe from Family Guy ) and Richard Horvitz ( voice of Zim from Invader Zim ) to provide solid entertaining audio.
Multi-player- Though Skylanders does not have Xbox Live support it does have same system 2 players co-op and adversarial modes. The cool thing about that is if your friend owns the game and collects the figures when he places one of his figures on your portal of power (device used to scan figures into the game) they retain his stats upgrades and accessories.
Overall- Overall I thought Skylanders was a step in the right direction. I would love to see other developers integrate technology like this into their games. A fun relaxing game that doesn't take itself too seriously. I recommend even hardcore gamers give this game a shot because i consider myself a hardcore gamer and I loved it. 5 out of 5.
