Many of us gamers tend to enjoy games where there is plenty of killing going on, well at least I do but hunting involves going outside which gamers like myself would rather not do. Over the years there has been dozens of games combing the two, most of which brought me more frustration than it was worth. The question is does BGH 2012 continue the trend or do we finally have reason the start playing the new game every year.
Unlike years past this years Cabela title is linear, with the exception of a couple hidden part of each level. I perfer the game to be linear because it does not take forever to find whatever it is I am hunting. I remember one of the titles I had on the original XBOX it would take me forever to find what I was looking for. Because of the game being linear the gameplay has been simplified. There is no more spray to lure out your vicim, in BGH 2012 there is minimal use of the mating call.
There is several locations, each with three days inside the country. Each day you have three main hunts to complete, the amount of animals you kill varies though. There are plenty of femal animals around to force you to stealth your way to a suitable shooting location. If you spook them the heard will know and they will run away. The animals you hunt vary based off of your location. There is also plenty of birds for you to shoot out of the sky and foxes and rabbits on the ground. There are also animals trying to attack you but it is a quick jump out and you shoot and its over.
The weapons used are upgradable but nothing you havent seen before. You have the semi-automatic rifle, long range rifle, bow and arrow, shotgun and trophy gun. The trophy gun is somewhat difficult to use, it is basically a long range pistol with a scope.
Once again there is the normal shooting gallery portion of the game. There is arcade mode, where you are trying to get the highest score possible. The next is the reflex gallery, in this mode you have to shoot the animals in a predetermined order. For example, if you are given deer and bear, the player must shoot only the deer than the bear. If you shoot anything else it will affect your score. The final is target shooting, which is exactly how it sounds. You will be shooting pop up targets, explosive cans and clay pigeons.
This year there is the ability to upload you pictures and/or trophy kills to facebook. To me this is an unnecessary add-on but Im sure there are some people that will think it is cool. I posted pictures and I had annoyed several people on my facebook.
As for the achievements dont let the high ratio fool you, this game is insanely easy. The shooting gallerys have a couple tricky ones but thats about it. I was able to get 775 points with almost no effort. You will have to do two playthroughs and a little clean up but less than 10 hours is doable.
At the end of the day I found BGH 2012 to be a nice little game. I really like how they decided to appoach this one. The graphics were not perfect but they did not take anything away from the game. Even though I am not a fan of the facebook add-on of the game I will say the pictures came out pretty good. I would not recommend paying to much becuase there is little to no replay value but if you can get it for $10 you will get your moneys worth.
