Phantasy Star Universe

IMPORTANT: THE SERVERS ARE NOW CLOSED. OBTAINING THE FULL 250G IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE, UNLESS YOU HAVE ALREADY OBTAINED THE ONLINE-ONLY ACHIEVEMENTS. Please continue to read for more info. The below info will NOT be changed for informational purposes.

Phantasy Star Universe (PSU) for the Xbox 360 is a console MMO, which is rare for we don't have many of those.

First off this game awards 1000G just for completing the Single Player Story. Fantastic right? Well, I think so at least.

The next 250G is awarded for playing the DLC add-on (which is online).

The online used to take a long time but recently more events have become available and sometimes enables a quick 1250G. This game takes about 13-14 hours in the Single Player if you skip side missions. The online normally takes about a month of playing about 5 hours every day. On decent events (assuming you have friends with at least a level that is 35-50 in PSU) the game can take about two hours or three to grab the 250G. If you plan on soloing this expect to take a week or two If you play during a Special Event (may be even quicker).

IMPORTANT: PSU SERVERS WILL BE SHUT OFF SEPTEMBER 7TH 2012! WITHOUT ANY BONUS EXP OR SPECIAL EVENTS IT WILL TAKE ABOUT A FULL MONTH TO COMPLETE THE DLC.**

DO NOT START THIS GAME WITH INTENTIONS OF COMPLETION NEAR THE END OF AUGUST OR START OF SEPTEMBER UNLESS YOU PLAN TO WORK HARD!

Please see the Hints and Tips page for information on boosts and events.

**Distant Memory is currently available and looks to stay that way. The DLC can be done in less than a month as long as it remains.

Guideline

1. Complete Single Player
2. Complete Multiplayer

Let's continue on the next page.

NOTE: The License is NO LONGER on Marketplace

Whenever you are ready to hop onto the Online world of PSU, you are going to need to purchase a GUARDIANS LICENSE.

Paying for Online

Q: What is a GUARDIANS LICENSE?

A: This enables you to enter the online world of Phantasy Star Universe (PSU)

Q: Is it free?

A: No, this license will cost you $10 a month (£6.99 a month in the UK and $14.99 in Canada)

Q: But I pay for Gold? Why can't I just play?

A: Normally an MMO cost a monthly fee, therefore, SEGA charges for PSU. Why? Because they can and it's your only way of getting online. Trust me I hate paying another fee as well.

Q: I'm a Silver (Free) Member. So am I stuck buying Gold and GUARDIANS?

A: No, PSU only requires you to own the license. You do not need Gold to enjoy a GUARDIANS LICENSE.

Q: How do I get this License?

A: In the Xbox Live Marketplace, select Phantasy Star Universe and select the Membership option.

Q: Can I pay with Microsoft Points?

A: No, you need a Debit/Credit Card in order to make your purchase

Getting Online

Q: I select Multiplayer and I can't play. I own a license though.

A: The original Multiplayer of the game is no longer available. The game has been updated to the better "Ambition of the Illuminus" add-on. You need to download this from the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Q: Is it free?

A: At a point in time it was 800msp. Now you can obtain the DLC for the wonderful price of Free!

Q: What did it add?

A: New achievements, a new single player campaign (you must be online to play) and much more. Explore and have fun!

Q: Where is my DLC?

A: When you start the game the first thing it will ask is if you want to play Ambition of the Illuminus. If you say No then you will have to dashboard out and start the game again to get the option back.

I no longer want to be a member of PSU

So you're done playing the game? Well let's cancel the account before you are charged again.

Q: How do I stop my GUARDIANS LICENSE?

A: Visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928002 or continue reading

You can get money back from your subscription if you cancel it early. I helped a friend do the Online DLC achievements in an hour during Spring Event and he got $9.40 back. He paid 60 cents for a Phantasy Star License. Warning, If you don't say you want it canceled immediately they won't refund it and it will expire on an appropriate date. Also if they say they can't do it hang up and try another representative because yes they can do it. The number is 1-800-4-my-xbox you just ask the representative you want to cancel your GUARDIANS License.

Things to look out for when playing Single Player:

Free Missions are optional missions that you can play in between the story missions. You can skip these missions throughout the whole game. You might encounter a few issues near chapter 11, due to not taking the time to level up. However, nearing the final moments of the game the difficulty feels lowered.

Remember to check out the shops once in a while after they are unlocked through story progression.

Enemies that deal great damage shouldn't be dealt with melee. Take as long as it takes to take the enemy down via ranged attack. Just have patience, as getting a death in the middle of a mission is VERY fustrating.

Things to look out for when playing Online:

*NEW* The following bonuses will be in place until the game servers close at 11:00p.m. PDT on September 6, 2012:

  • Megaholy fortune for all races
  • Weapon grinding success rates +15%
  • Synthesis success rates +20%
  • Half-priced clothes and parts (Meseta purchases only)
  • Free Lumilass services
  • 10x daily Vol Coin allowance
  • Boosted photon art EXP payout
  • Boosted EXP payout (does not apply to rare free missions)
  • Boosted drop rates (does not apply to rare free missions)

http://psupedia.info/Special_Bonus_Weeks

Once in a while SEGA will host a Bonus Week for Double EXP and such. Keep your eyes on the above link you never know when double EXP will flow your way.

http://psupedia.info/Events

Sometimes special events happen during Holidays/Seasons or when SEGA gives a GM event. Always keep your eye open for these events.

http://psupedia.info/Distant_Memory

July 15th 2011 (GUARDIANDS BOOST ROAD) (NOTE: Remember I am not SEGA, so I cannot confirm this mission will return. This is an example of missions you will see throughout the game until servers close. This was however most recent as of writing and is a great example of how sometimes the last achievement is made easy.)

Distant Memory was added to the game. This mission allows you to reach the Final Boss of the DLC early on. Normally you NEEDED to have a Level 90 character in order to participate in the mission that the Boss was located.

With this new mission you can now be a level 1 character on a C-Rank mission to enter this fight. Note that a level 1 character cannot survive for long. However, if they take a buddy with them that is a high level, they can do all the work to assist in getting you the achievement.

This mission appears to no longer be available but there is possiblity that it can be available in the future for another event.

NOTE: In order to earn EXP you must get at least one hit on the enemy before he dies for it to count. This also applies with Bosses. However, for the boss achievements, you only need to be present. You can be dead the entire mission, but if someone in your party kills the Boss, you will receive the achievement.

Welcome to Story Mode of PSU. Believe it or not this game is VERY VERY straight forward. Basically you need to just do the story missions until you complete the game. Once you beat the Final Boss you will have 1000G.

You will be playing as Ethan Waber, a 17 year old, hot headed teen, who is becoming a Guardian. Little does he know, many things will go wrong on his quest.

Let us begin.

Tips: - Always have healing items and photon charges.

- Over prepare! If you feel like you are beginning to have any trouble at all, play a few free missions and level yourself up. It won't hurt to be a few levels higher than necessary!

- Be a Hunter. I recommend this because of their damage output and ability to use lots of weapons. Take advantage of the Double Saber once it is unlocked, along with one of it's photon arts - Tornado Dance. This art destroys bosses, and can hit multiple targets. Also, you will have this class leveled up from the start, due to it being the default.

- Be smart. If there is a horde of powerful enemies that spawn, don't run in the middle of it unless you are positive you know you will survive. All it takes is one tiny mistake to have to restart a whole mission.

-Use photon chargers before missions! This is a must. They will recharge the PP of all your weapons, allowing you to use even more photon arts.

- Sometimes there will be a shop during the mission. Take advantage of it by restocking all of your valued healing items and such.

The end boss of Chapter 3.

His weakness is his head. Have as many healing items as you can. This is due to some cheap hits the boss may throw in. While De Ragan is in the air, move around so you are not an easy target. Try to stay under him to avoid his attacks, and then just carry on throughout the fight hitting his head and hiding under him until dead.

The end boss of Chapter 5

You fight 3 Tengohg before this fight, so make sure you are ready.

This boss is flying around you so try to get in some hits before he lands. Unleash all you have on him before he takes off again. Maya will come and assist you after a while, but will most likely be K.O.'d too fast. Remember if an AI partner falls they will revive eventually on their own. This boss is one of the more simple ones. Just remember to keep moving.

The end Boss of Chapter 7

There is a trick for this giant machine: as you can see, it will try to face you to attack. Keep running to its back and attack. First, you can try to lure the boss to attack you, then immediately run to its back, and hit the boss, trying to stay in between its two legs. If you’ve done it correctly, the boss will keep turning, and you will be hitting the leg. Now use this chance to attack the boss as many times as you can. If the boss warps to another area, use the same tactic, and continue reducing its HP. The boss will attack when it has spotted you, and his attacks can do some great damage. Equip a two-handed blade if you’ve got one, as it can be pretty handy. However, your preference is about all you need in this game. As another side note, the Tornado Break skill works well on this boss.

End boss of Chapter 8

Try to stay the heck away from this thing! He has slow moving speed, but a powerful attack. Shoot it from the side when it's moving. Hitting the head or wings are best. Normally it stops to attack, so make sure pay attention to the two heads, move away when the dragon starting moving again. Eventually the boss will go down after constant shooting.

End boss of Chapter 9

This boss is similar to the one in Chapter 7. Keep your position on its side while attacking and you may end up delaying its next attack. Pay attention to when the boss raises up its hands, as it will damage all targets in the area when it smack on the ground. Be sure you get away now. When it lights up the blue blade on its legs, you can only damage his hands. Shooting is a must here.

End boss of Chapter 11

Running, dodging and shooting. This is nothing that you haven't faced before. If you made it this far, you should have this fight in the bag. After about 3 of his attacks he will land. Just attack as much as you can while he is down. He pretty much flies around using wind attacks. Remember to keep your distance to avoid him knocking you down.

End boss of Chapter 12

Get as close as you can to deal out attacks. If you are getting 0 when you attack him get away from him, because he is about to attack. Wait for the opportunity to attack him again. He is very predictable and this is a straight forward fight.

End boss of Chapter 12 (cont.)

This fight comes right after Dulk Fakis is slain. This boss fight is one the easiest of the game, sadly. Basically unload on him and watch out for his tail. It doesn't do too much damage. If you have any health items left over save them for when things get dangerously close to death. When he flies around the map, stay in the middle. Once he starts flying upside down he is about to die. Finish him off for 1000G.

NOTICE: THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS CORRECT. HOWEVER, THE SERVERS ARE NOW CLOSED. THIS PAGE IS BASICALLY INFORMATION ONLY. WE ARE SORRY TO SAY ALL NEWCOMERS CANNOT EARN THE FULL 250G. WE HOPE THAT EVERYONE THAT HAS ALREADY PLAYED THE ONLINE PORTION OF THE GAME RECEIVED FULL ENJOYMENT AND EARNED THE FULL AMOUNT OF GAMERSCORE. HAPPY HUNTING TA'ers!!!

When AOTI was released, SEGA was focused on their ideas to the online world and not the achievements. The Final Boss was not available to fight for a long time thus making the last achievement unobtainable. As of now, every achievement can be earned. However, the game is subject to change at any time until the servers close.

In the AOTI DLC, there are just 5 achievements. You unlock each one by defeating the boss that is related to the achievement. Note that you DO NOT need to do any damage to the boss to get the achievements. You only need to witness the death of the boss for the achievement to unlock. However, if you want to gain experience from the boss, you will need to damage it at least once.

There is no level requirement to kill each boss, so technically, you could have a friend run you to each mission, kill the boss, and get you each achievement. For those of you that don't have friends to run you through the missions, this guide will walk you through some tips and tricks to make your PSU experience a little easier. The strategies in this guide are assuming you are a low level and will be using the bare minimum missions (C Rank) to get your achievements.

Play as whatever race you want, but be careful, as some races are stronger than others in certain areas. Humans are decent at everything, Newmans are good with TECHNICs, Casts excell with guns, and Beasts have raw power in melee. Consider what you would like to demolish things with and choose your race accordingly.

Tips for having an easier online experience

- Once you begin your online character, you will be in your room. Somewhere in your room should be your partner machine. I highly recommend you talk to it and take the mission tutorial, assuming you are playing solo. After this tutorial, not only will you know how to get around PSU's online game, but you will get a partner card for a character (based on your race) to take on missions with you. This card will help because there will be two of you, not one.

- ALWAYS BE PREPARED. Before hand, I strongly insist you stock up on Photon Charges (items that restore your weapons PP), Healing Items (Monomates, Dimates, and Trimates), and if you have the meseta, Scape Dolls (Items that revive you if you get downed, especially helpful for if you die during a boss battle).

- Try to attack with the elemental attribute your enemy is weak to. For example, if your enemy is based on a dark element, use a light element weapon/attack to deal more damage. Obviously, you are going to want to resist using the same element on your weapon as the enemy is. Melee weapons come with an element that doesn't change, but Techers and Gunners get an advantage. Gunners can change what elemental attribute is on their guns, and Techers can choose what elemental spell they want to cast at the enemy. Also, they attack from far range, taking less damage.

- If you see that you can buy a better weapon and have the meseta to do so, try to buy it. This better weapon will deal more damage, and carry more PP for your photon arts. Also, remember that there are shops on the Guardians Colony and all three planets. Parum might carry better guns than other places, because CASTs mainly live there. Moatoob would most likely carry more powerful melee weapons, as Beasts live there, etc. Another thing you need to remember; make sure you can use the weapon. If there is a big X by the name, you obviously don't want to buy it.

- Level up accordingly before you take on a mission. After you select the mission, you will be given numerous details on that mission, along with the levels of the enemies in it. Use common sense. If the enemies are 7 levels higher than you, you are probably not going to be able to clear it very easily alone. It would be possible, but very irritating.

- Change your class to a better one that suits your playstyle. If you are completing lots of missions and get a beginner class leveled up (Hunter, Ranger, Force) you will be able to change to an expert class later, which will help you do more damage and use better weapons. You can view what weapons each class can use, and what you need to use that class here: http://psupedia.info/Types This site is also great for any other questions you may have about the game.

- Pick up important items in missions. Obviously, you want to pick up meseta and healing items amongst other things to save you the time and money from having to buy them.

- If you want to find a partner, try playing on server 2. Usually, there are many people running different missions, so you shouldn't have much trouble hopping in a mission with someone or having someone join you.

- Don't forget to claim all your hard work at the end of a mission. Press LT, then A to receive your mission points, and other miscellaneous rewards.

Leveling Up

Leveling up can take a long time, or relatively short time if your smart about it. Obviously, if you are a level 30 and are running missions with level 5 enemies, you aren't going to be leveling up very fast. Choose missions where the enemies are around your level, but not too high above you when trying to level up. However, when killing bosses and getting to them, I recommend running the C rank missions to make your life easier. Here are some easier ways to level up.

Innocent Girl

Innocent Girl is a simulation mission where you get to play with a Female CAST named Vivienne. You can find this mission in the GRM Shop (West District of Parum) at the very front counter. Just talk to the nice CAST lady. This is a 1 player mission. Don't worry about how high of levels the enemies are when you run this mission. Just get a hit on the enemy and run away if you are under-leveled. Vivienne will do the rest. However, once you rise in the ranks to stand a chance against your foes, some parts of the mission may become tricky or confusing. For example, you may be dying by a turret and don't know how to survive it. Here is a video to solve that problem.

Door to Subspace

Door to Subspace is a mission that can be found in the GUARDIANS Branch of Parum (East District). This is a 1 player mission. It involves you running through a relics site that is completely random and unpredictable. You will be sent through different levels, not knowing which one comes next. You can make nice money off this mission, and level up quite a bit.

White Beast

Ironically, you need to run this mission to get the Alterazgohg Slayer achievement. It is a quick and easy 6 player mission. There are normally MANY people running this mission when there isn't an event going on, so there definitely shouldn't be any trouble finding players to play with at all on server 2.

Note: These are not a guaranteed fast way to level up, but they seem much easier and more popular and effective than other missions. Just remember, never give up! If you don't think about it too much, leveling up goes quick!

Roadmap

Note: I recommend being at least a level 20-25 before doing these missions.

Alterazgohg Slayer Achievement in Phantasy Star Universe

Alterazgohg Slayer60 (40)

Discontinued - This achievement can no longer be obtained due to closed servers, a bad patch, or other unusual circumstances
Defeat boss in temple area. (Exclusive to AOTI)

How to get there: This boss mission is located in Neudaiz. First, head over to the COG: Pavillion of Air. From there, complete the "Sacred Stream" mission. Once that is done, you will arrive at the Pavillion of Air: Top. Select White Beast, and if you successfully complete it, this achievement is yours.

Tips: Most of the enemies in this mission are light based. Consider taking a dark based weapon on the mission with you to maximize your damage per second. Beware of the dragon's many attacks as well. He can fly around the map and cause chaos to melee attackers, but he will land eventually. Also, if you have a weapon that can hit multiple parts of an enemy in one attack, bring it. These weapons destroy Alterazgohg.

Mother Brain Slayer Achievement in Phantasy Star Universe

Mother Brain Slayer77 (50)

Discontinued - This achievement can no longer be obtained due to closed servers, a bad patch, or other unusual circumstances
Defeat boss in relics area. (Exclusive to AOTI)

How to get there: This boss mission is located on the planet of Parum. Head to the East District and go into the Flyer Base. Select the "Scarred Planet" mission. Once that is finished, find and complete the "Lightning Beasts" mission. After that, you will arrive on a beautiful coast line. Find the mission "SEED Express" and complete to steal this achievement from Mother Brain herself.

Tips: Mother Brain is an obnoxious little robot that likes to annoy people. Beware! She enjoys putting a protective shield around herself to nulify all damage. To avoid this, use a ranged weapon or TECHNIC that is capable of destroying her arms. This will allow you to get up close to her. She also uses an attack which sends a waves of gas and pushes you back. Most of the enemies in the mission are Electric and Dark based, so use Light and Ground weapons in return.

De Rol Le Slayer Achievement in Phantasy Star Universe

De Rol Le Slayer63 (40)

Discontinued - This achievement can no longer be obtained due to closed servers, a bad patch, or other unusual circumstances
Defeat boss in cave area. (Exclusive to AOTI)

How to get there: This boss mission is located on the planet Moatoob. Escort yourself to the Flyer Base, then select "System Defense". After that, find and complete "Desert Terror". Now, do the "Tunnel Recapture" mission. Eventually, you will get to the "Caves of Ice" mission. Complete that, and then finally, do the "Awoken Serpent" mission. This will net you the achievement.

Tips: BRING A RANGED WEAPON. YOU WON'T REGRET IT. Just like Mother Brain, De Rol Le likes to be a pain. This boss flies around your small craft and doesn't like to come down often. However, if he comes to the side of your craft, use the buttons to float by him then demolish him. Look out for these little flying creature things he will shoot at you, as they can and will explode and ruin your day. Most of the enemies are ground based in this mission, so consider bringing a lightning based weapon.

Secret Achievement Achievement in Phantasy Star Universe

Secret Achievement93 (60)

Discontinued - This achievement can no longer be obtained due to closed servers, a bad patch, or other unusual circumstances
Continue playing to unlock this secret achievement. (Secret)

How to get there: This boss mission is located on the 5th floor of the Guardian's Colony. Once there, make your way to a woman at a desk. Talk to her. In the counter, select "Old Event Missions", and from there, find a mission called "MAG C". NOTE: The boss is not at the end of the mission, like they usually are. You must complete the mission, then click on the end mission crystal. In that menu, click an option that says "To Program DF", this is where the boss will be. If you manage to beat Program DF, the achievement is yours. Alternatively, you can fight this Boss on the way to Dark Falz 2 (down below).

Tips: The enemies in this mission are scattered across pretty much all of the elements, so bring an assortment of different elemental weapons. The boss however is dark based, so make sure you at least bring a light based weapon. This boss is very similiar to De Rol Le, it just looks different. Use the same strategy for this boss to walk out alive.

Secret Achievement Achievement in Phantasy Star Universe

Secret Achievement114 (60)

Discontinued - This achievement can no longer be obtained due to closed servers, a bad patch, or other unusual circumstances
Continue playing to unlock this secret achievement. (Secret)

How to get there: This boss mission is located on the 4th floor of the Guardians Colony. Head to the space dock. Do the "Dark Satellite" mission, then proceed for the "SEED Awakened" mission. After those two, do "The Black Nest", then complete "The Dark God". Once all that is done, attempt "Distant Memory" and bag your final achievement.

Tips: Most of the enemies in this mission are dark based. A light based weapon is a must. Watch out for the beginning of this boss battle, as it will launch itself toward you right away. Also, beware of an attack that sends a meteor crushing on your face, as it will cause total destruction to your HP. Just keep at this boss, being as relentless as possible, then you will finally see him fall (literally).

I hope your Phantasy Star Universe experience online was great. Hopefully, you will have completed the game and have that nice 1250 Gamerscore on your card. Keep your license and have more fun, or cancel it and run away with the score, it's up to you.
