Note - This walk-through will be written in the order of which I feel the achievements are most efficiently achieved. They can be unlocked in other ways, but this is my opinion of the best order.
For your first play-through, you're not going to worry about getting any gold medals. That will come later during cleanup. For now, just focus on getting the Light and Dark Albion achievements as you progress through the levels, and pick up some mini-game achievements on the way. As the levels are very straight forward, I will not tell you how to complete them, but give you tips on things you should be doing during each one. Also, at the end of each level, there will usually be two pathways you can take. I will let you know which one is most efficient.
Light Albion
Level One - Millfields
At the end of this level, you can go to either the Hive or the Farm. You will want to go to the Farm and play the Chicken Bomb Mini-Game. During this mini-game, you are dodging exploding chickens, trying to survive longer then the other puppets. It is recommended you dodge the chickens coming after you. If you complete this mini-game without getting hurt, you will be presented with an achievement, with another for completing the level. (If you get hurt, just finish the mini-game and complete the level, then re-select the mini-game from the world map to try again)
Complete Millfields in the world of Albion.
Complete the Chicken Bomb Mini-Game without getting hurt. This unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
Once completing Millfields, you will be presented with a Monopoly-like game-board. This is where you will level up. Roll your dice, land on a tile, and buy an ability to pop another achievement. (Remember to buy abilities every time you have the chance!)
Visit a tile on the Abilities Board. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
Level Two - Gravestone
Completion of this level will present you with some more gamer score. (Take the Tomb route to help clean up an achievement later)
Complete Gravestone in the world of Albion.
Level Three - Mistpeak
Complete this level and yet again, an achievement will meet you on the other side. (Take the slope route to help grind out an achievement later)
Complete Mistpeak in the world of Albion.
Level Four - Hobbes Caves
At the end of this level, you will be presented yet again with two routes - The Pit and Mines. Take the Mines route, and prepare for an achievement that can prove frustrating. You need to complete the Mine Cart Mini-Game in less than 13 seconds. This will require very fast tapping of buttons. If you do not get it your first try (Don't be surprised if it takes several) and need help, there are several tips.
- Use a Rock Band drum controller after you start the race, and drum on the corresponding drum pad as fast as possible.
- Use a turbo controller and let it do it's thing.
- Memorize when the buttons change, and go as fast as you can. You will eventually get it after a few tries!
Successfully doing this will net you some more achievements.
Complete Hobbe Caves in the world of Albion.
Complete the Mine Cart Mini-Game in under 13 seconds. This unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
Level Five - Bowerstone
Complete this level for another achievement. (Take any route you wish)
Complete Bowerstone in the world of Albion.
Level Six - Aurora
Completing this level presents you with.. you guessed it, an achievement. (Take any route you wish)
Complete Aurora in the world of Albion.
Level Seven - The Credits
Complete this level for another achievement.
Complete The Credits in the world of Albion.
Final Level - The Cloud
Complete this level and be presented with TWO achievements.
Complete The Cloud in the world of Albion.
Complete all levels in the world of Albion.
Dark Albion
Dark Albion will require more than just completing a level to get an achievement - you need to do certain things in the level.
Level One - Dark Millfields
Try not to get hit during this level AT ALL. If you succeed at that, you will be presented with an achievement. It is probably smarter to take the Farm Route. (If the AI gets hit, don't worry about it. It's YOU who can't.)
Complete Millfields in Dark Albion without being hit!
Level Two - Dark Gravestone
Go into your Game Mode options and turn "Players heads are big" on. Complete the level with this setting and get another achievement. (Take any route you wish)
Complete Gravestone in Dark Albion with Big Heads mode enabled!
Level Three - Dark Mistpeak
If you don't have all the abilities for one character yet, then complete the level and come back for this one later. However, if you do have all the abilities, roll the dice on the inner board and activate a perk. Complete the level with a perk on to unlock another achievement. (Take any route you wish)
Complete Mistpeak in Dark Albion with a Perk activated!
Level Four - Dark Hobbes Cave
Complete the level in first place to unlock this achievement. (Take any route you wish)
Complete Hobbe Caves in Dark Albion and finish in first place!
Level Five - Dark Bowerstone
Change the difficulty of the game to challenging. If you do this and complete the level without dying, another achievement is yours. (Take any route you wish)
Complete Bowerstone in Dark Albion on Challenging and without dying!
Level Six - Dark Aurora
If you open 3 power up chests during the level, then complete it, another achievement is yours. (Take any route you wish)
Complete Aurora in Dark Albion and use at least three Power-Ups!
Level Seven - The Dark Credits
Throughout this mission there are the names of people who helped in the making of this game. If you run up and attack them, you can destroy them. Destroy 20 of the names and get another achievement after completing the level. (Take any route you wish)
Complete The Credits in Dark Albion and smash 20 Lionhead developers!
Final Level - The Dark Cloud
Go into your game mode options and this time, turn "Player Heads Grow with Coin Pickup" on. Pick up enough to make your head so big that it explodes, then complete the level for two achievements.
Complete The Cloud in Dark Albion and make your head POP!
Complete all levels in the world of Dark Albion.
Congratulations! You have made it through the game! Now let's clean up some achievements that were left behind.
Clean up
This cleanup section will consist of many random achievements that were not obtained on the first run. Most of them are pretty easy, however some may prove annoying
To get this achievement, head to Hobbe Caves. Make sure you have the ability on Reaver where he can kick Hobblets. As you make your way through the level, you will come across a bridge with tons of hobblets. Press A while next to one to kick it, then shoot in it's direction quick to obtain it.
Kick a hobblet, then shoot it out of the air. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
This one might require some luck. You need to open up a power-up chest on a level that contains hobbes. When you get the Hobbe disguise power up, go and kill a hob to net this one.
Kill a Hobbe while disguised as a Hobbe. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
Once again, another luck based achievement in my opinion. Remember when you selected the Tomb route in gravestone awhile ago? Go back to that mini-game. When the pumpkin creatures come out, they will start to throw their heads at you occasionally. You need to focus on one that throws it's head, then kick it back at him and hope he dies.
Hit an enemy with its own head. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
Turn your difficulty to challenging, then in the Game mode options, turn "No HUD mode" on. Now complete a level.
Complete a 'Challenging' level in ‘No HUD’ mode. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
Now, we are going to buy all the abilities for one character. I found this easiest to grind out in the sled mini-game, which you should have gotten earlier. Keep on winning first place for 5000 coins and 2 dice rolls in about 30 seconds. Once you buy all the abilities, you will have this achievement. (And another, if for some reason you didn't unlock it earlier.)
Purchase all abilities for one puppet. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
Buy all abilities on a single tile. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
If you haven't unlocked all the playable characters yet either (The ones you need to buy with the 4 main characters) then keep doing the sled game so you can unlock them on the board.
Unlock all the playable characters. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
Now finally, gather yourself and 3 other friends with the game. (Or try to find 3 other people online) Get in the same game, then go complete a level together.
Complete a level as part of a four-player team. This also unlocks a tile on the Inner Board.
World Champion
Before I go any further, I would like to thank DROGTURIST here on TA for the wonderful tips and hints he has provided us with. Also, credit to him for all the level requirements. You are great, and your list is very helpful!
The World Champion achievement may be tough for some, but easy with a few tips. Remember, telling the gold medals from silver ones in Dark Albion may be tough, so it may be safer to keep a list of the levels you get gold on.
- Make sure you use a character who has access to the inner board for perks. These perks will give you things like an extra multiplier, pulling coins in for you, and other big helping hands.
- Use a ranged character with other weaker ranged characters in your party. This will make it so you kill most of the enemies, which will yield more coins.
- If you see you only need a few thousand more coins for the gold medal, then take the mini-game route. If you need more then the mini-game will give, try taking the boss route. (Light Albion mini-games give you 5,000 per win, Dark Albion gives 10,000)
- If you have a few extra controllers, you can plug them in at the boss so they don't kill it. Each boss has a point where they keep spawning enemies, which will give you more points.
- Stick with normal difficulty - there isn't much of a difference.
