4. Miscellaneous and Collectibles
The post-game mode allows you to replay about everything of the game, and is therefore a valuable way to earn these miscellaneous achievements, provided you haven't already got them randomly in your normal gameplay. Below is a quick overview of them (listing each of them quickly), and then a more detailed guide if you need extra information.
Overview
- Synchronize on the top of each High Point in the game (represented by eagle symbols on the map); best done as soon as you find one
- Help every citizen harassed by soldiers in each district of each city (12 of them in each district of each city); best done as soon as you find one
- Get a full health bar (you will get this as you do the previous ones)
- Fulfill some variable tasks about fight styles, performing specific actions and so on; each of these achievement is called "Eagle's [Something]", for example "Eagle's Will". You'll progress through most of them automatically and unlock a good amount of them too; for those which you haven't unlocked naturally, the best moment will probably be in the post-game
- Fulfill other variable tasks: pickpocket a total of 200 knives (you steal 5 each pickpocketing, regardless of your current amount), jump through 20 merchant stands, join 20 times a group of scholars (the same group 20 times is ok), throw away 25 beggars bothering you
- Collect all the flags of each area and kill all the templars of the game
Detailed Descriptions
High Points
There are 91 high points in total, and you'll be able to spot them on the map thanks to the eagle symbol; also, an eagle itself will be hovering around them when you approach these places, usually towers. If you can't see any of them on the map, try to find one of them wthout looking at the map (they're easy to find, don't worry), "synchronize" at its top (press Y) and the others will appear around the uncovered map you've just revealed. Just for your information, among the solutions for this achievement there's a more detailed list of them district by district, but you'll easily find every of them by your own. Here's your achievement:
Complete all Reach High Points.
Harassed Citizens
There are 36 citizens harassed by soldiers in Damascus (12 in each district), and just as many in each district of Acre and Jerusalem too. To properly help them it's not enough to simply kill the guards and then lock on the saved citizen with LT, and sometimes you may notice they're escaping. The two rules are simple: never attempt to save a citizen when you're chased by soldiers (the citizen will just escape), and never rush on the soldiers without locking on one of those in the harassing-group (with LT, as usual) before attacking. If you lock on the soldiers (while in an anonymus state, again) harassing/on guard near the harassment, the "alert" mode should trigger, and after a few seconds Altair should even say something like "Not on my watch", "Just try that". If you do this (lock with LT to introduce the fight), the citizen will never escape during your fight, and you'll always manage to save him/her. Once it's done, don't forget to lock on the saved one with LT, which will make a group of people (scholars or vigilantes) spawn to help you out in future.
In case the citizen runs away while you're fighting, move away a bit and return (in anonymus state), and (s)he'll be respawned along with the guards.
There's an achievement for each city:
Complete every free mission in Damascus.
Complete every free mission in Acre.
Complete every free mission in Jerusalem.
Health Bar
Your in-game "life" is represented by a synchronization bar in the upper-left corner. As you progress through the game, events will naturally increase it; in addition to them, you can increase the bar segment by segment by means of completing 15 "tasks" such as clearing the high points and the citizens help missions. Once you do 15 of these, a new segment will be added (a second segment after 15 more missions, and so on). Your goal is to have a full health bar (two full lines), and it'll be accomplished with a minor part of the missions. However, the other achievements above here require you to do so eventually, so you should probably deal with every mission as you go. When you're done with it, you'll unlock the following achievement:
Have a complete Synchronization bar.
Eagle's Achievements
They're self explained, and are mostly related to doing some fight actions for a fixed amount of times.
Eagle's Will should come naturally as you play, especially if you get used to the counter with the hidden blade which will help you not taking any damage.
Eagle's Flight has to be done on purpose (likely), but you can simply engage a fight with few guards and hold RT for most of the time (if they grab you, counter the grab with RT+B rather than holding just RT); survive ten minutes almost doing nothing and the achievement is yours.
Eagle's Prey is another achievement which comes naturally as you play: just kill 100 guards.
Eagle's Challenge is a bit more complicated because you need to fight 25 enemies "in a single fight". The problem is not defeating them, but finding the whole of them. You know you're in a "single fight" if your icon in the upper right is either glowing red or glowing yellow (red is when enemies are just there, you're in their line of sight, and they're going to attack at any time, while yellow is when you've interrupted their line of sight, they can't attack you, but it's still considered a single fight). Anyway, at the end of the game you'll easily be chased by loads of enemies, and if you kill most of them, but leave 2-3 of them alive, more will eventually reach you (you can meanwhile move around the city while dodging their attacks to find more soldiers more easily). Don't kill all of them of course, or you'll cause the end of the fight; don't leave just 1 of them, because he's likely to run away, ending the fight. Crowded districts at the end of the game will do it easily; possibly in squares which have a wider space where to fight. Wherever you decide to attempt this, don't even try to gather 25 soldiers altogether at first: let them reach you in waves, and eventually you'll get through this.
Eagle's Swiftness is probably going to come naturally if you decide to rely on counters, which is anyway a great way of fighting (with or without the hidden blade as weapon). Perform 100 of them in total and the achievement will pop up.
Eagle's Dive on the other hand is rather unpopular because it's not that effective in fights and guards tend to die when you perform or just attempt its requirements. The safest way to take care of this one is by going in Masyaf's training ground, select the combo training and do this as many times as you still need to hit 50 combos in total.
Eagle's Talon is about the opposite of the previous achievement: kill 100 enemies with stealth kills and it'll be yours.
Eagle's Dance requires you to perform 50 "Leaps of Faith", which are always accompanied by the cry of the eagle (sort of whistle) as you're diving into the haystacks. The High Points always have them below, so it should come naturally while doing the 91 of them; other non-high-point locations in the game may have Leap of Faith spots too.
Eagle's Eye requires you to kill 75 guards with the throwable knives. I advise you to work on this along with "The Hands of a Thief" achievement which requires you to pickpocket 200 knives (pickpocketing is the easiest way to refill your inventory). The knives will be unlocked a bit later than the other weapons.
Defeat 100 opponents without dying.
Last 10 minutes in open conflict.
Defeat 25 guards in a single fight.
Perform 100 Counter Kill in Fights.
Perform 50 Combo Kills in Fights.
Perform 50 stealth assassinations.
Perform 50 leap of faith.
Kill 75 guards by throwing knives.
Others
These ones are also self-explained.
The Hands of a Thief requires you to pickpocket 200 knives in total; you can pickpocket them from the rogues in the city (most of all in the crowded areas of the poor districts). Each pickpocketing nets you 5 knives. You do not need to have free space in your inventory for the stolen knives to count: if you already have the maximum amount of knives in stock (let's say, 5/5) and you steal, even if it's telling you that you have "picked the maximum amount of knives" and not "picked 5 knives" (as it does if you don't reach the max amount of knives with the current theft), it still counts. Therefore you don't need to throw them as you steal them, to make free space. There's however the "Eagle's Eye" achievement for killing 75 soldiers with these knives, hence you might save this for the end of the game, when you'll have 15 possible knives in stock, and work on these two achievements together. The ability of pickpocketing will be explained as you progress in the game, in case you can't find a way to do this early.
March of the Pious requires you to get into a group of scholars (they're introduced early in the story) for twenty times. You know you're in a group of them when Altair starts marching automatically, slowly, in a pray-like mode, in the middle of them (to trigger this, press A in their group). You can enter and exit the same group for twenty times if you feel like it. The scholars are marked on the map with a particular symbol.
Enemy of the Poor is self explained and will probably be at a good point of completion without really trying for it; just throw away 25 of those annoying beggars.
Gifted Escapist requires you to jump through 20 merchant stands: just run towards them with RT+A and Altair will do it, for the happiness of the merchants.
Pickpocket 200 throwing knives.
Use Scholar blending 20 times.
Grab and Throw 25 Harassers.
Jump through 20 merchant stands.
Collectibles
Here you will find everything you need for the collectibles.
As I stated earlier in this guide, rather than using the checklist on the website I would advise you to save the image of those maps on your computer (or even print them if possible), then manually cancel the flags you collect/the templars you kill. There will be 60 Templars in total (30 in the Kingdom and 10 in each city) and 420 flags (20 in Masyaf, 100 in the Kingdom and 100 in each city). You can also find youtube videos which can help you out in this, but I would advise only the fixed images on the above website, since they're more than enough, and you have all of them there, ready for your hunting.
Note: some people have reported that the Templars may not always spawn. If you can't find a templar, and you're sure you didn't kill him before, try moving to another area and then return there and check again. This sometimes fixes the problem. Other people are less lucky, and still can't find the missing templar(s) after this; clearing the caches is the only other suggested solution for this. Hopefully this won't happen to you!
Here are the achievements related to Templars and Flags:
Find All Flags in Masyaf.
Find All of Richard's Flags in the Kingdom.
Find All Flags in Damascus.
Find All Flags in Jerusalem.
Find All Teutonic Flags in Acre.
Find all Templar Flags in Acre.
Find All Hospitalier Flags in Acre.
Good luck and thanks for reading.
