2. General hints and tips
Here are some major tips which I found rather helpfull.
As soon as you get missions which prompt you to protect something, stick close to that objective and lay mines as much as you can. The mines in this game are not just stationary, they also target nearby ships at some distance making them 90% sure hits with a rather big damage output. Of course they won't kill big cruisers with one hit, but they will damage them and kill almost each little craft instantly. Using the fast nailgun, the best ship available (obviously the heavy over the fast craft if possible) and for close quarters the flamethrower will end most enemies rather quickly.
The best weapons in this game are in my opinion the nailgun, flamer and heavy shotgun since they have in comparison to the speed a really high damage output. Don't understimate your enemies anytime and be prepared to face a lot of them. So, keep your equipment up to date whenever you can and keep using your special attacks as often and efficiently as possible.
Torpedos are also great to use, but rather against lone targets or big ones than multiple enemies. The weak point of them is obviously the low firing rate and the limited ammo, so only use them as a last resort to end up enemies faster. Be sure to remember there are multiple types of torpedos, so use the appopriate one for different situations.
Pick up everything possible and investigate each map area to each corner. Believe me, better weapons and collectibles pay off in this game and make boss fights just that much easier.
Don't get frustrated over some levels, even though you can play on easy, it really sometimes doesnt feel like easy at all!
