4. Story Walkthrough: Clean-up Run
The Darkness II
A Walkthrough by KJT CD ACD
SECOND RUN: THE CLEAN-UP
Welcome to the dreaded clean-up run. I know in your first run, you will have taken a few of the achievements listed here, but for the sake of ease on my part, I've listed all the side-achievements here, and how to get them. Go to New Game+ from the start menu, select Thug Difficulty and From The Beginning. Try to enjoy this run, it can be a bit of a grind sometimes.
First of all, skill tree upgrades. Make sure you're getting the high bonuses; executions, Darkness Arm related kills (Impaled, Sliced, etc) and Darkling kills generally net the highest. You shouldn't have too much trouble grinding out the last couple of upgrades, and you'll probably get 'Talent Show' just by playing this run through normally. In any case, here's the achievements you'll net:
Max out 1 of Jackie's Talent Trees
Max out 3 of Jackie's Talent Trees
Max out all of Jackie's Talent Trees
Next up, the Cumulative Crew, all self explanatory, all easy to grind out:
Kill 50 enemies with Executions while playing as Jackie
Kill 100 enemies while dual wielding 2 different guns while playing as Jackie
Kill 50 enemies with the Demon Arm Slash attack
Kill 50 enemies with thrown objects
Kill 50 enemies with Black Hole while playing as Jackie
Kill 50 enemies who are swarmed while playing as Jackie
Kill 100 enemies with Gun Channeling while playing as Jackie
Following this, level specific achievements. Remember, you can always reload checkpoints if you miss them, or start up the levels again in New Game+ if you completely overshot them:
First, as you're being dragged through the restaraunt by Vinnie, grab this one by quick-scoping any enemy standing still (LT to auto-aim them, RT twice to make sure they go down). There's a couple of points, such as when Vinnie is catching his breath, where there are infinite enemy spawns, so make use of them. I got this just as I was going through the doors to the kitchen. It may take you a couple of checkpoint restarts to get this one.
Kill 25 enemies while being dragged from the restaurant, without dying or restarting checkpoint
Next is a fun one. The is cumulative over both the whorehouse level and the level in which Jackie is being tortured in the Iron Maiden for release of The Darkness. Kill everybody you can manage until this pops. In the latter level, keep an eye out for the light-carrying enemies and kill them first. Even though you have infinite lives and instantaneous respawns as the Darkling, these guys can really get your goat. That said, I got it first time round without even trying, it was so fun. Facing enemy's front + LB = Eye Popper execution, facing enemy's back + LB = Throat Rip.
Kill 15 enemies while playing as the Darkling
Up next, one of the most annoying achievements, second only to another in this list yet to come. At the very beginning of the level where you chase down Swifty, bust open the double doors to the right of the Talent Upgrade thingy, quickly grab the pool cue resting on the dumpster and toss it at the two guys right inside the door. Quickest and easiest way to nab this pesky achievement.
Kill 2 enemies with one javelin
Awww, how sweet is the next one?! While chasing Swifty down, you'll come across a cutscene involving Jenny cleaning tables in a diner. You can skip through the conversation, but do not press X to Kiss Jenny when you're dancing. Let the song play itself out, and this one is yours.
Real guys know how to dance
This one is as simple as putting the controller down and sipping your drink until the game decides for you. Do this during your crucified interrogation when Victor tells you to "Choose; left or right?" The guy on the right calls you a son of a bitch right before he gets his head blown off, despite you not choosing anything, then ding, achievement. Nice to know what he thought of you all these years.
Continue playing to unlock this secret achievement. (Secret)
This is a perfectly named achievement and you'll see why when you're in the parking garage of your mansion. A short cutscene-like section comes up, wherein a car corners hard from the right and starts barreling toward you. Empty your clip at the fools in the car, watch the ensuing fun, claim 50 easy Dark Essence and this achievement.
Avoid being run over in the parking garage
This is the most annoying achievement in the game. It is as close to a grind as they come. Both criteria for impressing Dolfo are available on your third trip to the mansion. The first (the bottle shooting) is available on your first trip and the second (pigeon killing) is on the second, but just wait it out until the third visit, right before you go to Aunt Sarah's funeral. Talk to Dolfo out on the balcony on the ground floor. The first you need to do is the Bottle Shooting mini-game. You have to practice with the STUPID BOTTLES until you can destroy them all in 10 seconds or less. The second is what I like to call Pigeon Blaster. Nail all 24 pigeons within the time limit. You can hit 2 with 1 shot, if you're lucky, but don't let any escape. Once you've done both of these, viola, achievement unlocked.
Edit: According to N188l3pwn3r, this achievement also unlocks in you hit all birds. Thus, you do not have to kill them all, merely hit them. This is a highly skill based achievement, but this tidbit helps make it a bit easier.
Impress Dolfo in two different ways
Back with your dearest Jenny again, you must put your shooting skills to the test. Seriously, after Dolfo's crap, this one is child's play. In the two mini-games at the carnival, you must score over 1000 points. Both games work on the same principle. If it's on the top row, it's worth a lot of points. Aim for top and middle with the duck game. Prioritise top over bottom in the Western Shootout game, but try to hit them all. Be careful, though, the guys with white vests are local law enforcement ("About time you got here..."), and shooting them docks points from your score. Once you clock 1000 in the second game and Jenny tells you her secret, ding, achievement.
Earn a score of over 1000 in each of the carnival games
Next up, we have the skill-based achievements. Some are pure skill, others just require you to have the right skill tree upgrade:
I got this first one by a fluke. I just started murdering people and away the achievement went. For those not so lucky as yours truly, save this for when you've maxed the skill trees. In any given arena fight (with lots of guys around) shoot and kill one. Then toss your Darkling at another. Then use Demon Arms to kill another. Then execute somebody. Then throw on Gun Channelling and mop up the rest of them. Easy as pie.
Kill enemies in 5 different ways within 30 seconds
This next one is fun. Remember the shield carrying mofo's from your first run? Here's your chance for a little payback. Shoot the Darkness Armour off their shields, grab the shield, shoot the Darkness Armour off them, toss the shield at them. Ding, Karma's a Bitch.
Kill a shielded enemy with his own shield
LET'S GO SKEET SHOOTING, YEEEEEEHAAAAAW. Grab some poor sucker at any point in the game, lob them directly upward by pressing LB (using RS does not count) and empty a clip into them. Done and done.
Throw an enemy into the air and kill him with gunfire before he lands
Finally, in this section, we have the Relics. For any you missed in the first run, here's a handy YouTube video by our good friend Destin Legarie at IGN.
This will net you both Relic related achievements.
Pick up 5 Relics in the single player campaign
Find all 29 Relics in the single player campaign
Once you've finished up things with Jenny, The Darkness and The Angelus, you'll net yourself one final achievement for your troubles.
Finish all chapters in New Game+ on any difficulty
Alrighty-roo, that's the clean-up run complete! Have a drink, get something to eat, now you're going to dive back in for the fun part.
