3. Story walkthrough
Note - If you have downloaded the 'Tempest Pack' then you will not need to complete the extra three races in order to get some of the achievements I will list below. This includes 'Atlantis' 'Castle Von Boom' and 'Bermuda Triangle'.
To start the game and walkthrough off choose the 'Single Player' then 'Race' options to begin the first part of the walkthrough. You have a choice of three boats, each of them are capable of steering you into first place so it's not essential to pick the statistically best boat. However If you want my honest choice then I'd stick to the Vector.
Achivement tips at this stage:
As you progress through single player mode watch out for Hidden Packages scattered around the race courses, there are ten on each of the standard eight tracks giving a total of 80 to collect. To collect them simply steer your boat into them, you can tell you've picked one up as you hear the voice that constantly guides you through the course say something such as "Ooh, shiny".
During the entire walkthrough you should also be picking up credits, 500 for 1st place in a Novice boat, 1000 for 1st place in a Pro boat and 2000 for 1st place in an Expert boat. I advise selecting Expert boats as soon as possible as you will need to get used to the way they handle and they get you more credits per win.
Another thing that I advise you to do is try and get gold on every race you can, don't settle for second place and keep trying for that first as you need to get in the practice to reduce the amount of time you might otherwise spend on this game.
One last thing you are aiming for during single player is credits, you need a total of 100,000 to earn all three credit achievements. Don't focus on this achievement too much, by the time you've finished single player you should already have this, if not then you should be very close to it.
After finishing your first race, assuming you came in 1st, 2nd or 3rd position you should pick up the 'Splish Splash' achievement.
Earn a bronze or better in any Single Player event.
As you continue to move on other races you will see that new game modes are being unlocked such as Gauntlet and Ring Master, you may have to give these modes a try as you may not have enough credits to continue the 'Race' mode. I suggest playing Gauntlet first as it is an easier game mode in my opinion and getting gold medals isn't too much of a task. Once you have enough credits you will have unlocked all eight races and depending on if you got 3rd place or higher on each one you will get the 'It's a Start' achievement.
Earn a bronze trophy or better on every track in Single Player Race Mode.
Now here is the tricky part, getting the last two single player achievements will be much more of a challenge than the ones before, you must come in 3rd place or higher for every single game mode in single player. This includes all the races, all the ring master events, all the gauntlet events and all the championships. My advice is to finish the first eight races first, these are mostly easy and with a little bit of practice you can learn the shortcuts which will lead you to 1st place for all eight tracks. You should also have enough credits to have unlocked some of the Expert boats, if not then going back and earning more credits now would be a good time to do so.
Next I suggest running the gauntlet events and coming in first, these are much easier than what the ring master events can be like. You may be stuck for a short amount of time but don't get too frustrated over the gauntlet events, using a boat with good air time such as the Rad Hazard is good on events like this as you can jump and move your boat out of harms way before you get hit. After achieving gold or at least bronze in each gauntlet event, you should now concentrate on what I found to be the hardest part of single player which is the ring master events.
The ring master events may seem easy enough when playing as a Novice and Pro boat, but once you get to expert you are going to really feel the heat, you are required to miss very little rings and run the course in record time which is very hard. If you miss a ring your boost will be drained and it is harder for you to turn because of this. This means there is a higher chance of you missing more rings and then being unable to finish the course with any medals. My tip here is to use the Rad Hazard, it's handling is much better than it seems, you just need to get used to the handling and control of it. I found it much easier to complete the course with the Rad Hazard than I did with the Cutthroat for example, that's a boat which has too much handling in my opinion.
Once you have at least bronze in every ring master event, the single player is almost up and you're one step closer to more achievements. Now comes the real test which is the championships. They will mix up a load of events which range from 2 to 8 per championship. The hardest thing about this is your opponents, they are suprisingly good at setting record times for ring master and gauntlet events which can cause you trouble half way through the championship.
If you are unsure on what boat to select from the menu then I would suggest...you guessed it, the Rad Hazard. If you think you're doing bad during a race then re-start, I wouldn't settle for anything lower than 2nd. If you know you haven't done well then restart before you get to the finish line to prevent the score from saving and you getting put down on the championship leaderboard. By now you should have had enough practice to get silvers and golds in each event and will have or be very close to getting the 'Medal Master' achievement. If not then go back and earn at least bronze on every track that doesn't currently have it.
Earn a bronze trophy or better in every event in the Single Player game.
After you've got this and are set on getting gold in each event then my advice is to practice what you're bad at, ring master events usually take 20 minutes of constant playing just to get used to the course so this achievement can be quite time consuming. Once you've mastered every track and event in the game to gold standard you will get your 'Golden Delicious' achievement! Hard work over!
Earn a gold trophy in every event in the Single Player game.
