Enslaved: Odyssey to the West Walkthrough

3. Story walkthrough

Hi, I'm Richard Bastion and I'll be helping you do things and stuff in Enslaved. Please refer to the Collectibles page of this walkthrough as you progress through the campaign, so as not to miss the collectible masks. Hope you enjoy the walkthrough.

Chapter 1:

Untouchable in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Untouchable104 (50)
Complete a Chapter without losing any health.

Chapter 1 is an excellent place to get "Untouchable." There are only 3 places where you have to fight, which makes a total of 4 places that you can take damage. Since there's no collectibles in Chapter 1, there's no reason to replay it and it's the easiest place to get "Untouchable." Follow the tutorials to quickly dispatch the enemies.

When you get to the smoking turbine, it'll shoot flames every few seconds. The flames will damage you and prevent you from getting the achievement. So as soon as the flame subsides, make both jumps as quickly as possible. Since you've no HUD in Chapter 1, the only way you'll know you've taken damage is if the screen flashes red. If this happens, reload the last checkpoint.

Story related. Cannot be missed.

Chapter 2:

Mined the Gap in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Knock an enemy back into a mine.

You can get a number of achievements during Chapter 2. The first is "Mined The Gap."

You'll come to a large area with a ton of mines around it, and a broken bridge stretching across the middle. Continue making your way across the sea of mines until you have to throw Trip up to a ledge. You'll soon come to an enclosed area under the bridge and a single mech will ambush you. Simply spam wide attacks(X+A) to knock him into the mines.

Lover, Not a Fighter in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Sneak past a group of enemies without alerting them.

When you're tasked with destroying the sentry turret, you will eventually climb up a wall, at which point monkey will request a scan. After the scan, there will be white rings emanating from the mechs, avoid them and make your way across the area.

Drop down off the ledge in front of you--Twice. Now head to the right and go up the ramp. Climb up and swing across the bars to the next platform. Jump from one metal beam to the other, then continue straight ahead and drop off the ledge to get your achievement.

Headcase in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Headcase20 (10)
Headshot a Demolition mech 20 times.

You can get this at the very first Demolition mech battle, which takes place at the end of this chapter. They're the big mechs with wrecking balls for hands.

As soon as the fight starts, you'll find plasma ammo to your left. Grab it and proceed to shoot the mech in the face as many times as you are able to. You'll know you're hitting him in the head, because if you don't, the plasma will just bounce off him. When you've no more plasma left, get killed, then repeat until you get the achievement. As I mentioned in the overview, do not reload the checkpoint! You have to die for your progress towards achievements and collectibles to be saved.

Story related. Cannot be missed.

Chapter 3:

Now is a good time to start working on upgrading your Plasma Blast. It will make things a lot easier if it's been upgraded by Chapter 5.

Story related. Cannot be missed.

Chapter 4:

Once you have fully upgraded Plasma Blast (Which should be around this point), you should start working towards getting Counter Attack, Plasma Penetration, Stun Effect and Evade Attack. We'll be getting the achievements related to all those come Chapter 8.

Story related. Cannot be missed.

Chapter 5:

Boom! in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Boom!18 (15)
Use the Bomb Takedown to kill 2 enemies.

You first get introduced to the Bomb Scout enemy in this chapter(5). Trip scans the area and you'll see a mech with a logo above it's head in the shape of an explosion; that's the Bomb Scout! Move straight ahead and engage the mechs, focusing only the Bomb Scout. When you've weakened it enough, you'll get the "Press B for takedown" message. Press B, aim the mech at the other two mechs and then press A. You don't have to hit the other mechs directly to kill them. If they're not grouped tightly, toss the mech between them. Obviously if you fail, you should just reload the last checkpoint.

The boss fight at the end of this chapter will be extremely easy if you've upgraded your Plasma Blast, as I told you to.

Anyway, this achievement is story related, and cannot be missed.

Chapter 6:

Story related. Cannot be missed.

Chapter 7:

Role Reversal in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Use the Gun Scout Hijack to kill 10 enemies.

Chapter 7 is an excellent place to get "Role Reversal," if you don't have it already. As you progress through the level, you'll come to an area with a stun mech walking around on ground level, and a gun scout on a higher platform. Make your way over to the gun scout and take him down. The mech on the ground level will now call for reinforcements. Once the reinforcements arrive, kill them and then let the remaining mech kill you. Repeat until you have the achievement.

Close Call in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Close Call20 (15)
Kill a Broadcaster with 1 second on the clock.

If you happen to have plasma ammo, this is a great place to get "Close Call," as well.

Story related. Cannot be missed.

Chapter 8:

Chapter 8 is one in which we'll get quite a few achievements. After dropping all the sails on the windmill and activating the power surge, a ton of mechs will attack you. If you drop your guard, or even if you keep your guard up, they can tear through you in seconds, so it's real easy to die. It's a good thing, in this case.

When you see the mech that shoots stun blasts, you're on the last group of reinforcements, so let them kill you!

Double Punch in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Use Stun Blast then Plasma Blast to kill 25 shielded enemies.

Kebabed in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Kebabed30 (15)
Kill 3 enemies with a penetrating Plasma Blast.

Out Cold in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Out Cold21 (15)
Stun 3 enemies at once with a Radial Stun Blast.

There will be two shielded mechs, two strong mechs and two regular mechs. Stun the shielded mechs when they look like they're close together, and hopefully one of the weaker mechs will line up with them, so you'll be able to hit 'em with plasma and get "Kebabed." You'll probably get "Out Cold" one of the times that you try to stun 'em. The bigger, stronger mechs take two Plasma Blasts to take down, but your shots will still penetrate them.

Over Here! in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Over Here!28 (15)
Distract 20 different enemies.

Once the mechs have surrounded you, taunt them with the RB.

Attacks Evasion in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Perform 20 Evade Attacks that hit an enemy.

What a great pun. Seriously! Anyway.. to use an evade attack, simply evade(A) and then press X during the evade. The attack must not be blocked for it to count.

To use Counter Attack, press B a split second before you block an attack, or immediately as you block an attack. Both seem to work. This one is a bit of a pain; the timing can be quite difficult and you'll probably die a lot. Not a big deal in this case.

Story related. Cannot be missed.

Chapter 9:

Bad Doggy in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Bad Doggy29 (15)
Rescue Trip from the Dog in less than 36 seconds.

This takes place towards the end of the level. Hit as many boosts as you can and IGNORE ALL ORBS. You get the achievement, or you get the orbs. There's no getting both. The quickest route to take is as follows:

Once you get to the bridge, go up and hit the first two boosts. Immediately after hitting the second boost on the bridge, jump off the bridge to the right and hit the boost. Start heading to the left now, go off the small ramp. Stay to the left and go up the larger ramp and onto the platform. Once you're off the platform, start heading to the right. Hit all the boosts at this point, and perform the takedown as soon as you are able.

The achievement will pop up within about 2 seconds of starting the takedown. If you don't get it, simply press the guide button, return to the dashboard and try again.

Story related. Cannot be missed.

Chapter 10:

You Swine in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
You Swine22 (15)
Beat Pigsy to the top of the Decaying Titan.

This achievement ain't hard to get. If you try to get all the orbs on the way up (thus costing you precious seconds), you'll most likely fail. So you either get all the orbs, or you get this achievement. Anyway, toeards the very beginning of the level, when you get to a tower, Pigsy will ask you if you wanna race. You have no choice in the matter. It's always pretty obviously where you're supposed to go. Just mash A while climbing for faster animations.

Story related. Cannot be missed.

Chapter 11:

Matador in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Matador33 (15)
Kill the Rhino without getting hit by his Charge Attack.

When fighting the Rhino, unless you're right next to him, he'll charge at you. You'll know he's about to charge you because he scrapes the ground a few times with his foot, then a metal plate comes down over his head. Obviously after that he rushes you. If you get hit by his charge, simply reload the last checkpoint. You can get hit by his other attacks and still get the achievement.

Notice that your Cloud has been activated, use it to dodge Rhino's charges. You can also dodge them on foot with a well timed evade(A). Pigsy will start throwing explosive charges into the ring after about 30 seconds. Position yourself so that the charges are in between you and Rhino, then deactivate Cloud. When Rhino charges you, shoot Pigsy's explosive with your Plasma Blast to damage him. When Rhino is falling towards you, it's still possible to be hit, so make sure to evade!

Once you get Rhino to half his HP, Pigsy will stop throwing explosive charges. You'll have to make Rhino charge into burners. At this point, dodging Rhino on foot becomes much more viable. The Cloud simply doesn't pick up speed quick enough to be able to dodge and still make Rhino hit the burners.

One last note: If you're trying to get the orbs, and I assume you are, get as many as you can, die, then repeat until all the orbs are gone. Once they're all gone, die again. Remember, the game saves progress towards achievements and all that when you die, but not when you reload checkpoints. Trying to get the orbs AND avoiding his charge attack every single time you reload is a recipe for frustration.

Got the Horn in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Rescue Trip from the Rhino in less than 35 seconds.

There's really no trick to this, I'm afraid. You might get it on your first try, you might not. It's pretty obvious where the game wants you to go, as you'll almost always have a boost in sight. There are obstacles that will get in your way, and while they might not always stop you outright, they can slow you down. Playing on easy will make the Rhino move slightly slower.

As with 'Bad Doggy', the achievement will pop up within about 2 seconds of initiating the takedown. If it doesn't, simply press the guide button, return to dashboard and try again.

Story related. Cannot be missed.
