4. Story walkthrough
Welcome to the Crysis 2 walkthrough. I hope you're ready for a fast paced thrill ride, that is gripping the world by storm. So, you've decided to start with the story mode. It's probably the best place to start, unless you are one of those weirdos who plays multiplayer straight away.
Choose what difficulty you want to start on, I would choose Super soldier straight away as the achievements stack, so you'll get the ones for veteran as well.
MISSION ONE: IN AT THE DEEP END
After watching the massive cut scene of stunning real life visuals then navigating your way off a ship, you will come across your first achievement to take to the watery depths with you.
Complete In at the Deep End
Yes, the first ironic achievement refers to the first Crysis, which was so high spec hardly anyone could play it. Clever Crytek, clever indeed.
On with the second mission...
MISSION TWO: SECOND CHANCE
As you awake dazed and confused, you should see a dead body next to a table beside you. Make sure you pick up your first dog tag (1/17).
You'll need to run through a few rooms, make your way outside, and take down the two guys with guns. Make sure you grab one their guns because it's better than yours. After you walk through the next door, you'll come to the cloak tutorial which allows you to sneak up on people and jab them in the neck with your knife, kind aren't you?
After taking out the enemies in the next outside bit, in the middle of the room is your first email collectible (1/10).
For the next bit, after you jump off the roof, you will want to use cloak to run down and stand behind the car/truck. When the guy jumps out, line up your gun with his head and the guy in front of him's head and fire away. This may take a few attempts but hopefully you'll get:
Single Player: Kill two enemies with a single bullet
Once you've done your sneaky sneaky around the Cell checkpoint, you will eventually find yourself crawling through tunnels that they use to put dogs through. You'll then grab a quick shower and pop doors open, with your manly arms, and head outside.
Escape the Battery Park evacuation center
As soon as you are outside, keep an eye out for a pharmacy. Once you've found it, go to the building next to it and look at the counter to find your first souvenir (1/18).
Carry on and when you come to a rooftop overlooking a group of enemies and a huge donut to the left use cloak mode and keep beside the donut, when the enemies spread out and one walks by a car underneath the donut shoot the donut and crush the guy below, who knew food could be so painful?
Kill a CELL operator with a giant donut in Lower Manhattan
As soon as you've done that, jump down and take out the enemies below, keep an eye out for the guy on the wall above you. Once you do that, you should see a speed camera mounted to a post to the left of where you jumped off the roof and straight ahead of you, make sure you sprint (Click LS in) past it to take a picture and count towards the achievement (1/10)
After fighting through or rather running through as I did, you will get to the subway, which I found was the best place to get the blast radius achievement.
Single Player: Kill at least 3 enemies with a single grenade
This is where you kill three or more enemies with a grenade, so when you get to the part where some guy comes screaming at you with about four crawling things through a grenade as quick as you can (double tap Y) and if you kill more than three in the explosion you'll get this.
After running through the subway, the mission will end.
MISSION 3: SUDDEN IMPACT
Isn't that a Clint Eastwood film?
After alot of action and sneaking etc, you will come to a building where it will automatically enter you into a weapon upgrade tutorial. After the tutorial, go up the stairs instead of out the window and you will find your first car key to your shiny new BMW, well not quite, it's laying next to a body. What has this world come to? Robbing from the dead tsk tsk...I thought better of you. (1/11)
Okay. After you've grabbed your first key, jump out of the window and over the barricade. Follow the slope and barricade all the way to the end. Jump off, look yourself and go under the military bridge thing where you will see another speed camera to sprint past (2/10)
So when you've managed to get to the alien pod test site thingamajig, you will see a parking door (grey door) that is half closed. Slide under the door (Click LS and press B) to get underneath. Head to the booth on your right and you will see a little car on a file cabinet, which is your next souvenir (2/18)
After killing one of the Alien like things, stand over it and hold X to take a sample, which should unlock:
Assimilate alien tissue at the crash site
When you get to a flooded tunnel, you will come to a taxi with a bus in front of it. To your right, you will find a doorway with a dog tag inside (2/17).
After getting the dog tag, press on towards the mission's end.
MISSION 4: ROAD RAGE
As soon as you start the mission, go up the stairs to the right, then in the room behind you and in the right hand corner is another car which is your next collectible (3/18). Where do you put these things?
A lot further through the game after going through streets and up bridges and whatnot you will get to a military base with a perfectly good tank just sitting there waiting for you to jump in, but instead of jumping straight into it duck under a container and take out the three enemies. Afterwards, turn right and follow the path until you get to a walk in container where you will find another key, maybe this is used to start the tank? (2/11)
Whilst in the tank blowing people up and generally having a jolly good time, you will notice a ship to your right as you enter a tunnel and a speed camera to your right, just drive past it to trigger it (3/10). Who would of thought a tank could break the speed limit?
After having your fun with the tank, you will have to ditch it, continue on foot which will then end the mission.
MISSION 5: LAB RAT
When the mission starts jump out the window kill the guy in front of you. Thereafter, turn right and attempt to jump to the bridge and realise that your body isn't capable of such a task. After you plummet to the floor, run around and climb the stairs. After, sprint right to the end of the bridge and steal another set of car keys from the dead body at the end. (3/11)
When you get into the building you will have to take out about three enemies. You will find a computer on a desk in one of the rooms, next to that is an e-mail (2/10)
So onwards, and you will have to fight a helicopter after going up a lift. Grab the sniper rifle to take out the gunner quickly and then shoot the copter itself to destroy it. After it flies into the building, jump down the hole next it to snag the souvenir on the box next to the window. (4/18)
After reaching Gould's apartment with a talk about prophet, its nice that someone pays attention to you in the game, oh wait you're not the prophet are you?
Who actually are you then?
Anyway, after the long talk by Gould, which I filled with looking through his telescope and jumping on his desk, grab the dog tag on the bookshelf to the left (3/17)
Go through the door and to the left but be careful of the guy who bursts through the door, quickly dispose of him and his pals.
MISSION 6: Gate Keepers
So when this mission starts you will find yourself on the rooftops, run around jumping from roof to roof until you find a window cleaning platform which breaks when you stand on it, are they trying to tell you something about your weight? Anyway, go left and down a small alley and up a few stairs you will find another set of car keys (4/11)
As you get further down the street, you'll come to a big church, head inside and jump over the table, to your right is another souvenir (5/18)
Exit the church and head to the street behind you if you are on the right street you will find another speed camera, all speed cameras have a sign above saying MAX SPEED 25, sprint past this. (4/10)
The next part of your mission requires you to light a fuse to blow up your objectives, do this twice and the objective requires you to enter a container, the e-mail will be on the table in front of you, as soon as you enter the container. (3/10)
When you get underground just run through the rooms to end this mission.
If you are playing through on veteran you'll get this achievement and the end of the mission:
Complete 6 levels on Veteran difficulty
If you are playing on Super soldier you'll get this plus the one for veteran:
Complete 6 levels on Supersoldier difficulty
MISSION 7: DEAD MAN WALKING
So you start this mission on the roof again, what are you Spider-man now?
After you've jumped from rooftop to rooftop and smashed through the roof, get to street level and follow the building until you find a key being guarded by a teddy, that's right you steal from cuddly toys now, you don't stop do you? (5/11)
As you get further on in the mission you have to blow open a door, go down the stairs and deal with the goons. Enter the room at the back to the left and the next souvenir will be on the counter. (6/18)
After the souvenir, spin around and find the e-mail on the desk, handy huh? (4/10)
So a bit further on, you will enter an elevator. Once you exit it, look for a dog tag to your left on the floor (4/17)
You should get this after you leave the place where you get escorted out by Commander Lockhart
Infiltrate the CELL facility at Wall Street
MISSION 8: SEAT OF POWER
As soon as the mission starts, well a bit further on actually, you will come to a bench with two bodies on it, behind that is a tunnel and inside will be a dog tag sitting on the desk. (5/17)
Further on in the mission, you'll have to enter a big building (city hall) as soon as you enter you should see a familiar e-mail on the table. (5/10)
As soon as you've done that, head up stairs enter the room to your left then go right and loot the souvenir from the dead body by finding it on the table next to him. (7/18)
Once you leave city hall, you'll come to an area filled with aliens once these are dealt with look out for a broken bridge, head for the stairs next to the bridge and the key will be next to a body. (6/11)
Once you've snagged that, carry on until you see a speed camera on a post to the left of a alleyway. (5/10)
MISSION 9: DARK HEART
You will start this mission of in the subway. Head towards the staircase and to the right of it will be a door with a light above it, go in and rob the dog tag here (6/17).
Further on you will reach a room after ducking under a vent with goo on the walls, go to the room to your left and duck under another vent to find another souvenir (8/18).
As you get further on through the mission, you will come to a room with a lot of scaffolding, climb onto the first one and loot the dog tag (7/17).
Throw an alien down the sinkhole in Dark Heart
Near the end of the mission, you'll reach a giant area with a massive alien construction. As soon as you see more aliens, use cloak (LB) grab one of them (X) and throw him (RT) in the big hole in front of you.
As this mission ends, you get another achievement:
Infiltrate the alien hive
MISSION 10: SEMPER FI OR DIE
When you start this mission, keep an eye out for a super saving store--no not for bargains. Use the container to get inside the store and shoplift the souvenir from the counter. (9/18)
Keep all marines alive during the rescue in Semper Fi or Die
For this you need to protect your four troops from the Statue of Liberty to your building destination, so keep and eye out for them and draw fire towards you and use your armour. This shouldn't be too hard.
After killing the big alien, carry on towards the city and keep your eye out for a black container. Jump on the container and you'll see a speed camera on an upside down post (6/10)
After the big boss fight, look out for an ambulance and yank the dog tag from the body (8/17)
Once you blow up the ship and end the mission, this should pop up:
Assist the Marines in Madison Square
MISSION 11: CORPORATE COLLAPSE
At the beginning of the mission jump on the bus and get out of here, oh but you have no money so why not take the keys (7/11).
The next souvenir is stashed in the Statue of Liberty's head. So swin down and take it why dont you, see if you can keep a clean conscience now (10/18).
When you get inside the building and get around the security, you'll find the e-mail next to a poster (6/10).
When you get to the point when you find yourself flooded out of the building, look for a car underwater. Dive down to find the dog tag next to it. (9/17)
After a long talk, the mission will end and you'll get this:
Reach the Hargreave-Rasch building
MISSION 12: TRAIN TO CATCH
When you get into the mission you'll probably see an overhead banner saying "Evacuation Post C1," look out for a post straight after it with a speed camera on it (7/10).
You'll then have to enter a library which appears to be on fire, people these days just have no respect for books, but look on the desk to find a souvenir (11/18).
Scan all of Richard Morgan's books in the NY public library
Use your armour to get through the fire and use your visor (Up on the D-Pad) and scan with X to make sure you are looking at the books at the yellow objective.
Further on you'll get to a place where you have to crawl through an orange tunnel, but before that search the room to your left to snag the car keys (8/11).
At the end of the mission, you should get this:
Assist the evacuation at Bryant Park
If you are playing on veteran, you should also get:
Complete 12 levels on Veteran difficulty
And on Super solider, you will get this along with the veteran one:
Complete 12 levels on Supersoldier difficulty
MISSION 13: UNSAFE HAVEN
This is one of those missions with no achievements just collectibles
After you have spoken to the commander, look for a dog tag on a box to your left at the back of the room where the gate opens (10/17).
Following your objective you will find out about detonating something so just before you get to the building (Onyx) you will find a speed camera on a post behind you (8/10).
So inside the building where you have to activate the detonator, you will find a souvenir on the desk beside you (12/18).
Finishing this short mission and moving on
MISSION 14: TERMINUS
So when you see the commander and Nathan Gould talking, check the desks next to the computers to find this dog tag (11/17).
When you reach the control room get the souvenir from the table (13/18).
After beating the boss and ending another short mission, you should get this:
MISSION 15: POWER OUT
When you reach the hotel look for the little cabin like room out front and inside are car keys (9/11).
After the above find, carry on until you go under a bridge and then turn around and go to the right of it into AMIM'S sandwich bar and collect it from the counter (14/18).
Go back out and under the bridge and to your right is a post with a speed camera for you to sprint past (9/10).
Before you enter the construction place, look out for a jeep and collect the dog tag next to it (12/17).
At the end of the mission, you should get:
Complete the evacuation at Times Square
MISSION 16: EYE OF THE STORM
Re-route the power in Eye of the Storm without being detected
For this achievement you have to get to reroute the power without being spotted. Hopefully, you can fully upgrade your stealth so you can use cloak for longer, but be patient, this may take a few attempts just back out and reboot to avoid any problems in gaining this achievement.
When you get the room where there are plants hanging from the walls, look out for an e-mail on the desk to your right (7/10).
As soon as you exit that building look left to see a guard tower, now use a nearby pillar to jump up there and get another souvenir (15/18).
You objective, a bit further on, will be to shut down the power, before you do this enter a side room of the catwalk to find an e-mail on the electronic desk (8/10).
After being attacked at the garage and the garage doors reopening, go to the left into a small room to bag this dog tag (13/17)
When you get to the room where you have to kill Lockhart, the e-mail will be on a nearby desk under a window (9/10).
MISSION 17: MASKS OFF
So when you head up stairs you will see a room to your right, go inside to take the tag for this level near the ammo box (14/17).
Your objective will tell you to find a syringe, the souvenir will be next to it (16/18).
Once you have stolen the syringe, you need to kick over a crate to continue, your finally e-mail will be to your left (10/10). Well done! You achieved nothing except a little pointless info.
After killing the big alien on the bridge, watch carefully to see the camera above you and there is the last one (10/10).
Continue playing to unlock this secret achievement. (Secret)
After completing this mission and the last one you should get:
MISSION 18: OUT OF THE ASHES
At the beginning of the mission instead of going in the tank, head straight on to find the key in a pile of rubble (10/11).
When you enter the building, before you need to use the elevator, look left and see a dog tag in the broken one (15/17).
Turn right after leaving the elevator and enter a hotel room to find a souvenir near a bed (17/18).
After destroying the gunship, you will have to climb to the tallest greenhouse to get this tag (16/17).
MISSION 19: A WALK IN THE PARK
At the start of the mission follow the path until you see a bus to your left, jump in a grab your final key from the seat (11/11).
You'll eventually reach the observatory and you should see two containers. Shoot the red barrel in the grey one to open the door and grab the final souvenir (18/18).
Find all New York Souvenirs
While you make your way through the park, you'll see a small building with three arches. Go to the left wall and look on the ground to bag your last dog tag (17/17).
At the end of the mission. you should unlock
If you complete the game on normal, you'll get:
Finish the single player campaign on any difficulty
If you complete the game on veteran, you'll get and the one for completing it on normal and:
Complete the single player campaign on Veteran difficulty
And on Super soldier you'll also snag:
Complete the single player campaign on Supersoldier
Finally, bask in your glory of conquering the story mode!
This is the last achievement and the reason the game takes over 4,000 hours to complete. You must play the game online six months after you first play it, so just remember to play online (either singleplayer or multiplayer you just have to be connected to Xbox Live) six months after you first played it to unlock:
