3. Story walkthrough
As mentioned in the overview, I would recommend playing through the campaign on the Easy difficulty first. This is to ensure that you get yourself familiar with how the game plays, and it’s a lot easier to knock out the majority of the achievements on easy. So, without further ado:
There are 5 campaigns to work your way through. On average, each campaign takes between 1-2 hours, depending on your skill level and difficulty. The harder the difficulty, the longer it will take you. You may be able to shave some minutes off of the completion time with a good group of 4 players, as opposed to the AI.
Campaign achievements:
DEAD CENTER
You’ll start the story campaign on top of The Vannah Hotel. After just missing the last evacuation helicopter, the Survivors have to make their way through the hotel, through zombie infested streets and into the Liberty Mall for the finale which occurs in the Atrium. Here they find a Dodge Charger on display, but it requires gas. You’ll need to fill the car with enough gas to break out of the Atrium.
You’ll come across certain Infected who wear blue or yellow HAZMAT suits. Some of these carry vials of Boomer Vomit, where upon if killed they may drop one. If they do, pick it up. This will count towards the 10 you need for the ‘ROBBED ZOMBIE’ achievement. This is easiest done on Chapter 2: The Streets. You’ll come to a point where you have to collect some Cola from the Save 4 Less for the owner of the gun store. Head towards the supermarket and open the doors. This will trigger an endless wave of Infected with plenty of CEDA agents to pick off.
Collect 10 vials of Boomer vomit from infected CEDA agents you have killed.
Survive the Dead Center campaign.

DARK CARNIVAL
The next campaign is actually The Passing, but as that is a DLC campaign, I’ll skip it for now. Details on The Passing, and it’s achievements, can be found below. So, the next campaign is Dark Carnival. Having escaped the Atrium finale in your Dodge Charger, you will happen upon an abandoned freeway. This is the end of the line for your car because of the build up of abandoned cars. Setting out on foot, you’ll have to navigate through the Whispering Oaks amusement park. During this campaign you’ll be able to gain Gnome Chompski for the ‘GUARDIN’ GNOME’ achievement, along with the 2 carnival game related achievements for beating “Moustachio” (GONG SHOW & STACHE WHACKER). All 3 solutions for these achievements can be found below. Once you’ve overcome the amusement park you’ll find yourself in the park’s stadium for the finale, where upon you’ll be rescued by a helicopter.
In the second chapter, The Fairground, you’ll find a shooting alley named “Peanut Gallery”. This is where you’ll find Chompski the Gnome. All those who are familiar with the game Half Life 2: Episode 2 will recognise this little fellow. To gain access to him you’ll need to score 750 points in the Peanut Gallery. Press the red button to start the game and begin shooting the peanuts that fly across. Once you manage the required 750 points, a red box to the left of the Gallery will open, revealing Mr. Chompski in all his splendour. You’ll need to transport the gnome until the very end of the campaign, right up until you board the rescue helicopter during the finale. Gnome Chompski is actually a play on the name of the political writer Noam Chomsky. Cool huh?
Rescue Gnome Chompski from the Carnival.
During the fourth level (The Barns), but before you get to the Bumper cars, you’ll see that age old carnival game where you have to test your strength. If you hit the red pad with any melee weapons and manage to ring the bell the ‘GONG SHOW’ achievement will unlock. You must use an adrenaline shot before you attempt this otherwise you won’t be able to ring the bell. If you don’t have any adrenaline shots on you, search around the level. There should be one knocking around somewhere. View the video below for more help.
Prove you are stronger than Moustachio.
Further on during the same level as the ‘GONG SHOW ‘achievement, just before you enter the Barns, you’ll see another carnival game. It’s the same game as the classic “Whack-a-Mole” you see at any decent fairground. If you get 42 points in this game, the achievement will unlock.
Prove you are faster than Moustachio.
The Whispering Oaks amusement park level features Infected Clowns. They’re most distinctive feature is their red-and-white striped trousers. Sometimes they’ll be leading a group of Common Infected. If you see that they are, alight him with a Molotov and you’ll earn the ‘FRIED PIPER’ achievement. I found the best location for this is at the end of the forth level (The Barns). Make sure you have a Molotov with you and get yourself into the Safe Room, but don’t close the door just yet. During this part of the level the Infected are on an unlimited respawn, so they’ll keep coming until you close the Safe Room door. Throw the Molotov down either of the small lanes you just came through. More often than not a Clown will run into the wall of fire who is leading a group of Infected.
Using a Molotov, burn a Clown leading at least 10 Common Infected.
When you see a Clown, instead of killing him, shove him back using the Left Trigger, and you’ll honk his nose. You’ll know you’ve done it as you’ll hear a rather amusing ‘honk’ sound. Repeat this 10 times with different clowns to earn the following achievement:
Honk the noses of 10 Clowns.
Survive the Dark Carnival campaign.

SWAMP FEVER
As in the ‘No Mercy’ campaign in the first Left 4 Dead game, the helicopter pilot has succumbed to the zombie infected and so the helicopter crash lands in the Mississippi bayou. The Survivors must now work their way through the eerie, swamp laden marshlands, whilst surviving different scenarios including an alligator farm, a crashed airline plane and a shanty town. The finale takes stage at a plantation house where they must await rescue from a boat skipper named Virgil. If you manage to survive you’ll be rewarded with the ‘RAGIN CAJUN’ achievement.
You’ll notice whilst playing the ‘Swamp Fever’ campaign that there are Infected that look slightly different from the Common Infected. These are the Swampy Mudmen. They are brown in colour and can move quickly through the swamps. You’ll find them after you finish the first chapter of this campaign. If you kill 10 of these whilst they are in the water you’ll gain an achievement. Throw pipe bombs to earn this a bit quicker.
Kill 10 swampy Mudmen while they are in the water.
During the Swamp Fever campaign, you’ll discover a small airplane wreckage. You’ll be asked to defend yourself against an incoming wave of Horde after trying to open the airplane door. If you manage to survive the incoming Horde attack without taking any damage, you’ll earn yourself an achievement. If playing with the AI, I found the best method was to back yourself in between 2 rows of seats. One of the AI should stand in front you which will make it almost impossible to take any damage. Use a Pipe Bomb if you feel you’re getting overwhelmed. You only have to defend yourself for a couple of minutes, so it really isn’t too difficult.
Defend yourself at the crashed airliner without taking damage.
Survive the Swamp Fever campaign.

HARD RAIN
Having been rescued by Virgil, you soon realise that his boat doesn’t have enough fuel to get them to New Orleans. They stop in the abandoned town of Ducatel, Mississippi to scavenge for more fuel. During this hunt, the Survivors have to navigate their way through a Witch-infested sugar mill to reach a gas station. Once you obtain the gas, you then need to work your way back through the mill in treacherous conditions until you get to a Burger Tank, whereby you will need to illuminate the sign to signal your return for Virgil to recognise.
During Chapter 2: Sugar Mill, you’ll be heading towards the gas station. During this you’ll work your way through the Sugar Mill which will be infested with Witches. You’ll need to avoid all of the witches to earn the ‘SOB STORY’ achievement. Watch where you're shooting as there may be a Witch hiding behind the enemy your shooting at. To make life easier, I’d recommend using a melee weapon. The achievement will unlock once you’ve entered the Safe Room in the gas station.
Navigate the sugar mill and reach the safe room without killing any Witches.
Survive the Hard Rain campaign.

THE PARISH
The last campaign of Left 4 Dead 2 is called The Parish. Having arrived in New Orleans, the Survivors find themselves in a zombie manifestation. The city is overrun with Infected. They have to make their way through the streets, an abandoned quarantine zone and a cemetery until they arrive at a partially collapsed bridge for their final push for safety. Crossing said bridge is no picnic as it is teeming with Infected and Tanks. If you complete this campaign, you’ll earn the ‘BRIDGE BURNER’ achievement:
During the third chapter, The Cemetery, you’ll happen upon a car impound. You'll know you're in the correct place when you see an abundance of abandoned red and white cars just after you emerge from the sewers. You’ll need to navigate your way through without setting off any of the car alarms to earn the ‘VIOLENCE IN SILENCE’ achievement. It’s a lot easier than it sounds. Have a melee weapon equipped to avoid any urges to fire and risk setting off an alarm. Avoid jumping on the red cars as these are the ones which have the alarms equipped. Jumping on the white cars is fine. It’s not a vast area by any means, so this shouldn’t take too long. The achievement will unlock once you enter the Safe Room
Navigate the impound lot and reach the cemetery safe room without tripping any alarms.
To earn the ‘BRIDGE OVER TREBLED SLAUGHTER’ achievement, you’ll need to cross the bridge and board the rescue helicopter during the finale of The Parish campaign in under 3 minutes. I would recommend grabbing an adrenaline shot from the Safe Room before you start as this will help you run quicker in times of need. Grab a melee weapon and preferably a Combat Rifle. Keep left of the bridge and avoid the Tank when you see him. He is very easy to dodge, but be wary of his ranged attack. If you’re struggling with the bots being too slow, start the chapter on Expert difficulty, kill off the AI then switch it back to Easy.
Cross the bridge finale in less than three minutes.
Survive the Parish campaign.
***
During the campaign, you’ll notice that there are special infected who are dressed differently from the Common Infect. These are called Uncommon Infected. Kill one of each from every campaign to earn the ‘CRASS MANGERIE’ achievement. The Uncommon Infected are listed below:
Dead Center: CEDA Agent
Dark Carnival: Clown
Swamp Fever: Mudman
Hard Rain: Construction Worker
The Parish: Riot Infected (This one is not required for the achievement)
Kill one of each Uncommon Infected.
If you manage to complete an entire campaign using only melee weapons, you’ll earn the ‘CONFEDERACY OF CRUNCHES’ achievement. For this to unlock you must not use any primary weapon or pistol, any grenades, explosives or mounted machine gun.
Finish a campaign using only melee weapons.
As detailed in the ‘General Hints & Tips’ section of this walkthrough, you will at some point come across an ammo upgrade. They look like small tin boxes that can be picked up and deployed on the floor. They will occupy the Med Kit slot in your inventory, so be aware when picking one up. Once you have deployed it on the floor, have you and your team collect the ammo and the ‘ARMORY OF ONE’ achievement will unlock.
Deploy an ammo upgrade and have your team use it.
Again, refer to the ‘General Hints & Tips’ section for a list of the melee weapons available to you. Once you have killed at least one Infected with each of the weapons, you’ll earn the following achievement:
Use every melee weapon to kill Common Infected.
The ‘DISMEMBERMENT PLAN’ achievement requires you to kill 15 Common Infected with a single shot from the Grenade Launcher. Once you’ve acquired said weapon, grab either a Pipe Bomb or a Bile Bomb and wait for the Horde to appear. When they do, throw either grenade, wait for the sufficient amount of Infected to engulf the grenade and fire your grenade round into them. This should unlock the achievement along with a feeling of great satisfaction as you are covered in zombie innards.
If you can’t find the correct combination of weapons, try loading up a Survival game on the Dark Carnival: Concert Finale level. There should be both the Grenade Launcher and a Pipe Bomb.
Kill 15 Infected with a single grenade launcher blast.
During the campaign, you’ll encounter an abundance of Jockeys who will be hungry for that elusive ride on your--and your teammates--shoulders. If you find one of your teammates being ridden by a Jockey, try to kill it as soon as possible. If you manage to shoot him off in under 2 seconds you’ll unlock the following achievement:
Kill a Jockey within 2 seconds of it jumping on a Survivor.
Trying to ‘level’ or kill a Charger with a melee weapon can be extremely tricky and frustrating, especially trying to do it whilst he's charging. Not only is it tough just trying to make contact with a melee weapon on him whilst he’s charging, but trying to kill him doing so seems a very daunting task to say the least. The easiest method is to grab a friend, load up a Versus game, kill off your AI counterparts, so that they don’t get in the way and get your friend to spawn as a Charger. This is where communication with your buddy is imperative. Shoot his health down as low as possible, then equip your melee weapon. Have your friend charge you, but stand just out of his charging line. The reason you want to stay out of his charge line is because if he manages to accidently catch you, you’ll have no teammates to save you and you’ll need to restart and try again which can become a pain. Take a swing at him with your melee weapon as he is passing by. Hopefully you will make contact and it should kill him earning you the ‘LEVEL A CHARGE’ achievement. If you don’t have any willing friends to help you out, head over to the Gaming Sessions and create a session.
There is another method which I managed to do on my own. For those of you who have ‘The Passing’ DLC, I ran to the end of the first chapter during the Hard Eight Mutation, as there was double the chance of Chargers spawning. I allowed my AI counterparts to hide in the Safe Room whilst I waited outside, picking off all of the Special Infected that were spawning with my golf club. If you get snared by the Special Infected, your AI teammates will run out of the Safe Room (if you’ve left the door open) and help you out, where they will swiftly run back in again. Once a charger spawns, just keep hacking away at him, during which he should charge you at some point earning you the achievement.
Kill a Charger with a melee weapon while they are charging.
Killing a Spitter before she is able to spit is very easy and should be one of the first achievements you earn in Left 4 Dead 2. They don’t have much health, so as soon as you see one, kill it. If you killed her before she spat, you’ll unlock the ‘ACID REFLEX’ achievement.
Kill a Spitter before she is able to spit.
As per the ‘ACID REFLEX’ achievement above, unlocking the ‘SEPTIC TANK’ achievement should be just as easy. Once you find a Bile Bomb, hold onto it until you encounter a Tank, then it’s simply a case of throwing the Bile Bomb at him. Then you can sit back and watch the Common Infected get battered by the Tank... hilarious.
Use a bile bomb on a Tank.
Trying to kill a Tank using only melee weapons for the ‘TANK BURGER’ achievement can be tough and a little tricky. You cannot damage it in any other way than using a melee weapon, so guns, grenades and gas canisters are off the agenda. The easiest method is with 3 human teammates all equipping a melee weapon and hacking away.
If trying to do this solo it can be even tougher as your AI teammates will shoot at him which will ruin your attempt. You could kill off your AI friends and run through the campaign on your own, but you must be wary of the Special Infected as they will incapacitate you once snared. Even if you manage to get to a Tank, trying to take one down on your own with just a melee weapon is very difficult. You could wait for the Chainsaw Massacre Mutation to attempt this, as all the Survivors have chainsaws, which makes it very easy.
Another method is to boost it with a second controller. Load up a chapter on any campaign (I’d recommend The Bridge finale on The Parish). Make sure you’re playing as the Survivors and the Guest account (second controller) is playing as the Infected. As the Survivors, kill off your teammates then make your way across the bridge until you encounter the Tank. The Tank should be controlled by the Guest account, so start hacking away at him, but don’t kill him just yet, instead take his health to as low as possible. Grab the second controller and move the Tank back towards the Safe Room until you lose control of him. Now with the first controller, it’s just a case of finishing the Tank off. Job done.
Kill a Tank with melee weapons.
Left 4 Dead 2 introduces a new game mode by the name of Realism. This mode makes things a little more realistic, thus, a lot tougher. The main features with the mode is that there won’t be any silhouettes around your teammates or weapons when they’re on the other side of a wall, and the ability to rescue teammates from closets is gone. You’ll need to complete a campaign on the Expert difficulty with Realism turned on to earn ‘THE REAL DEAL’ achievement. Tips for the Expert difficulty are detailed below for the ‘STIL SOMETHING TO PROVE’ achievement. Just be aware of where your teammates are because it’ll be more difficult to tell whether they have been snared by a Special Infected.
Survive a campaign on Expert skill with Realism mode enabled.
The ‘BEAT THE RUSH’ achievement requires you to earn at least a Bronze medal in Survival mode using only melee weapons. This can be extremely tough, but there is an easy way. This can be done either on your own with the AI or as part of a team. Load up the Atrium on the Dead Center campaign whilst grabbing the melee weapon on the counter in front of you. A Med Kit and/or Pain Pills is also recommended. Start the horde be pressing the radio on the other counter and rush up the stairs behind this. Follow the stairs up to the top floor, turn right and move across the bridge. From here turn right again, and follow the path round until you come to a boarded up dead-end. This is where you will be holding up for the next 4 minutes (4 minutes is the time required to earn a Bronze medal). Be wary of any Infected climbing over the board. If you’re playing with the AI, they’ll give you great cover. If a Tank comes flying over, run! Let the AI deal with him. Once he’s dealt with, go back to the dead-end. Just remember to only use your melee weapon and the achievement will be yours after the 4 minutes have concluded. Follow the video below for a more accurate guide:
In a Survival round, get a medal only using melee weapons.
By far the most difficult of the Left 4 Dead 2 achievement list is trying to complete each campaign on the Expert difficulty setting. This is extremely time consuming and frustrating. Each campaign can take between 2-4 hours, depending on the number of human teammates you have and their skill level. This is easiest done during the Mutations of ‘Last Man on Earth’ as there are no Common Infected, or on ‘Gib Fest’ as you have M60’s with unlimited ammunition. Remember:
- Friendly fire is turned on, so avoid shooting your teammates as this will deplete their health quickly.
- Turn "Full Captions" on in your option menu. This is an easy way of telling whether there are any Special Infected lurking near you.
- Don't be greedy, especially when it comes to health. If your teammate(s) are low on health and you have ample, heal them with either your Med Kit or Pain Pills.
- Make use of your grenades. If you're feeling overwhelmed use one of your Pipe Bombs.
I will try to guide you through each finale, starting with Dead Center.
Dead Center
You’ll find yourself in the Atrium, needing to fill up the car with 8 gas cans (8 in single player, 13 in online campaign mode). Leave the gas cans on the ground floor for now. Go for the cans that are on the 1st and 2nd floors first. When you grab one on the higher floors, throw them down to the ground floor for collecting at a later stage. Once you have cleared the higher floors, you can start work on the ground floor ones, but don’t empty any into the car just yet as this will trigger the Horde and Special Infected. Once you have the sufficient amount of gas cans within close proximity of the car, start fuelling the car. This will no doubt trigger a Tank or 2. Grab a Molotov from the reception desk opposite the car and throw it at the Tank(s). There is enough open space to outmaneuver him, so utilise this. You will only be allowed to end the finale once the car has enough gas and all the Survivors left alive are close enough to the car.
Dark Carnival
You’ll find yourself in a small concert stadium where you need to attract a rescue helicopter by starting up a rock concert. This will also alert the Horde. Once you’ve turned on the lighting by pressing the button at the top of the seating area, and you’ve turned on the sounds effects and fireworks on the stage, head back up to the seating area and sit above the entrance (where you entered the stadium). This is an ideal place to hold up as you can see the majority of the stadium and you will be a safe enough distance from any Common and Special Infected that you won’t be caught off guard. Grab some Molotovs from on top of the stacked speakers in front of the stage, some Med Kits from the stage area and more Pain Pills on top of the 2 wooden scaffoldings in the center of the seated area. Once a Tank spawns, hit him with a Molotov. There is more than enough open space to avoid his melee attacks, but just be wary of his ranged attacks. Make use of Pipe Bombs when a Tank spawns as this will deter any random Infected catching you. Keep sitting in this position until the rescue helicopter arrives. It will arrive either right in front of you, or over the other side of the seated area.
Swamp Fever
The finale to this campaign is set in The Plantation. Make your way through the level until you come to the plantation house. At the back of the garden you’ll find a radio in front of a gate. Do not use the radio just yet. Instead, run back towards the house. There should be some red gas cans in front of it. Grab one of these and turn right. Follow the wall until you come to the end where you’ll be standing in a small clearing. This location is the safest to hold up in, in my opinion, as it offers the most cover (behind the hedges and the random withered tree), and you can see the majority of the garden. Place your gas can in the clearing. Gather ammo on one of the tables. Inside the house should be grenades so grab them. Now you can use the radio which will alert the Horde. Go back to the small clearing and fight off any Common and Special Infected. You can take refuge behind the tree from incoming Smoker attacks and you’ll be able to see any other Special Infected careering towards you. Once a Tank spawns, either light him up with a Molotov or let him come close enough so that he’s standing next to the gas can you placed earlier and shoot it. Once he’s alight, keeping running around the maze. He won’t be able to catch you up and will get confused as to which direction to go. Don’t worry about shooting at him as he’ll die from the flames, instead concentrate your fire on any Common or Special Infected.
You may get another 2 Tanks coming at you shortly afterwards, so use the same method as you did with the previous Tank. If you’ve run out of gas cans and Molotovs, look inside the house. There will be more gas cans. Obviously, try to alight both Tanks simultaneously. As soon as the Tanks are dead, the gate by the radio will open, leaving you just a short sprint to the safety of Virgil’s boat.
Hard Rain
Having returned with the gas to fuel the boat, you’ll need to wait for Virgil to rescue you (again) with his trusty boat. To start the finale, you need to light up the Burger Tank sign on the roof which will alert the Horde. I’d recommend staying in the Burger Tank or on the roof at all times. If you venture outwards, your speed will decrease because of the swampy underfoot. Defending inside is the easiest tactic as the Infected find it difficult to manoeuvre around the furniture. Once a Tank comes, hit it with a Molotov and try and give him the slip by constantly going back and forth from the inside of the Burger Tank to the roof. He will get confused and slowly burn to his death. Once the boat arrives, inject yourself with some adrenaline and rush outside to the shoreline and onto the awaiting boat.
The Parish
If you’ve managed to overcome all of the campaigns above, you’ll only have The Parish to complete. The Bridge finale is arguably the easiest to complete, but can require a great deal of luck. Grab an adrenaline shot as you’ll need this a bit later on. Once the bridge has been lowered, run as fast as humanly possible, shooting and shoving any Infected in your way. Stay to the left of the bridge as this offers the clearest and quickest path. Once you see the scaffolding, chances are that the Tank will spawn. Once you see him, take your adrenaline shot and try to avoid his attacks. The adrenaline shot will give you a 15 second boost of extra speed and should get you past him. Then it’s just a case of making your way to the rescue helicopter. Another Tank may spawn in front of the helicopter, in which case you’ll just need to sidestep him.
Congratulations, you have just completed the entire game on the hardest difficulty setting. Give yourself a pat on the back and relish in your fine achievement.
Survive all campaigns on Expert.
Accumulative achievements:
As explained in the ‘Hints & Tips’ section of this walkthrough, I gave a brief description of the ammo upgrades in the game. You’ll need to ignite 50 Infected with the Incendiary ammo to earn the following achievement. Natural progression through the campaigns should net you this one:
Ignite 50 Common Infected with incendiary ammo.
Chainsaws are quite rare in this game, but you can’t miss them as they’re huge and bulky. Once you’ve found one, unleash the demonic lumberjack in you. Just remember that it does run out of petrol, so use it sparingly. Mow down 100 Common Infected with the chainsaw and you’ll bag the ‘CHAIN OF COMMAND’ achievement. This is easiest earned during the ‘Chainsaw Massacre’ Mutation.
Kill 100 Common Infected with the chainsaw.
Decapitating 200 Infected for the ‘HEAD HONCHO’ achievement shouldn’t be too challenging and can even be done in combination with the ‘CONFEDERACY OF CRUNCHES’ achievement (finish a campaign using only melee weapons). Just make sure your aiming for that zombie’s ugly mug to be sure of a decapitation.
Decapitate 200 Infected with a melee weapon.
When one of your teammates becomes incapacitated you can revive them even quicker than the normal method by using an adrenaline boost beforehand. Do this 10 times and you’ll earn ‘THE QUICK AND THE DEAD’ achievement. You can boost this with a second controller if you’ve not managed to do it during your run through the campaign. Set up a Survival game on the Dead Center level with both your controllers as the Survivors. Before you alert the Horde, grab an adrenaline shot from the reception desk. Have your second controller head to first level of the Atrium and make them jump off the walkway. This will incapacitate him, if not do the previous step again. Grab your first controller, inject yourself with adrenaline and revive your downed teammates. Repeat this until you run out of adrenaline shots, then just reload the game until you hit the magic number of 10.
Revive 10 incapacitated Survivors while under the speed-boosting effects of adrenaline.
As the above solution, set up a Survival game on the Dead Center level with both your controllers as the Survivors. Before you alert the Horde, grab the Defibrillator from the reception desk. Have your second controller head to the top of the Atrium and make them jump off the walkway. This will kill them. Grab your first controller, and use the defibrillator to bring your dead teammate back to life... spooky! Now reload the game until you hit the magic number of 10.
Revive 10 dead Survivors with the defibrillator.
The Passing DLC
The Passing campaign takes place between the Dead Center and Dark Carnival campaigns, and costs 560 MS Points from the Xbox Marketplace. This was the first of the two DLC's released to feature the original Survivors from the first game. It features 10 new achievements. This campaign will take you through the riverbank and the underground after finally finishing with the Port finale. You’ll earn an achievement for completing the campaign:
Survive The Passing Campaign.
During the finale on the Port, there is a two-storey house across from the generator that is closest to the bridge. In this house, on the ground floor, you’ll find a jukebox. Press X on the jukebox and you’ll hear The Midnight Riders track come blaring out. Whilst your dancing to this wicked track, you’ll earn an the ‘KILLING ‘EM SWIFTLY TO THIS SONG’ achievement. View the video below for reference.
Play the new Midnight Riders song on a jukebox.
You may or may not have noticed some foot lockers scattered about the campaign. If you open 5 of these lockers you’ll net the ‘CACHE GRAB’ achievement. The foot lockers do not always spawn in the same place. You will need to open them yourself as opposed to one of your teammates opening them for the achievement to unlock. The video below will guide you through the possible locations.
The Passing DLC also features a new melee weapon: The Golf Club. Pretend you’re Tiger Woods for the next half an hour and wrap that golf club around 18 zombies' heads, making sure you take their head off, to earn the ‘FORE!’ achievement.
Knock off the heads of 18 infected with the golf club.
The ‘KITE LIKE A MAN’ achievement requires you to kill a Tank without actually killing the Tank yourself. Confused? Don’t be. It’s actually very simple. Start up the Port finale on the Expert difficulty and kill off your AI teammates so that they don’t ruin this achievement. Switch the difficulty back to Easy once you’ve done this. Make your way through the level until you come to the first generator. Across from the generator you’ll notice a building with the original Survivors standing on the balcony (the same building as the one with the Jukebox in). Now simply wait for the Tank to appear and let the original Survivors kill him. Do not shoot at it as it will upset the achievement. A video is included below in case you’re still confused.
Kill a Tank only with damage from the original Survivors.
This DLC also features new Uncommon Infected called “Fallen Survivors”. They are difficult to tell apart from the Common Infected, but their main distinguishing feature is the ammo belts that they wear around their torso. If you kill one, they’ll drop an item which ranges from Molotovs to Med Kits. Picking up 10 items accumulatively will earn you the ‘GRAVE ROBBER’ achievement. If you’re struggling to find them, follow the video guide below.
Collect 10 items dropped by a Fallen Survivor.
As stated previously in this walkthrough, The Passing introduces the M60 to the Left 4 Dead arsenal. If you manage to kill 25 Infected without letting go of the trigger, the ‘TIL IT GOES CLICK’ achievement will unlock. Simply wait for the Horde to arrive and fire away. You have a magazine size of 150 rounds, so it shouldn’t cause you too much trouble. Again, watch the video guide below if you’re struggling
Using the M60, kill 25 infected without letting go of the trigger.
The Sacrifice DLC
Again, this DLC will cost you 560 MS Points and is available for both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, although if you want to play it on both games you will need to buy it twice. It takes place in between Blood Harvest and The Passing (a L4D2 DLC campaign). During the campaign one of the Survivors will be forced to sacrifice themselves for the safety of the other Survivors, hence “The Sacrifice”. This campaign consists of 3 chapters whereby the Survivors will have to navigate through some docks, a barge and finally ending up at a port for the finale.
You can knock out 2 achievements just by completing the campaign. When selecting your character at the beginning of the game, make sure you select Bill. Choosing any other character will not earn you the ‘Kill Bill’ achievement which requires you to sacrifice yourself playing as Bill (poor guy!).
Complete "The Sacrifice".
Have Bill sacrifice himself for the team.
Scattered around this campaign are white barrels with red “Hazard” logos printed on them. These are explosive barrels and are used for the ‘Barrel Rolled’ achievement. You can find these at the very beginning of the campaign in The Docks. Once you find one, try to lure a Special Infected towards them. Standing by one, dodging a Hunter’s pounce and then shooting him whilst he’s next to one is a good method. If you’re struggling, see the video below.
Kill a Special Infected with an exploding barrel.
