You don't need to play the whole game co-op just load up the final boss and get a partner. Achievement will unlock after final attack on the boss.

As Nufftingz says, you only need to bring a partner into the last fight.

I did this last night solo with a 2nd controller. Start as your main (level 9 fighter in my case) and while going through the local-multiplayer menus have the 2nd controller/player start a level 1 character (I chose cleric just so it'd be a different looking character from the main).

**Spoilers in the following**

Key things to pulling this off solo (learned the hard way):
1) Both characters need to stay within the same screen area (it's NOT a split-screen), so the camera is likely to frustrate you.

2) When in a battle, you idle character will sometimes "warp" to you if you run against the invisibly border and try to attack something out of range. Sometimes the reverse happened and I warped back to the lvl1, so I couldn't find consistency.

3) When the lvl-1 dies (and he WILL die, but not as often as I thought), you have 20 seconds to revive him. Failure to press "Y" in close proximity to the fallen character results in having to start the fight over.

4) If the lvl-1 character is waiting to be revived AND you take the last of Rezlos's life, it results in you having to start the fight over. Wasn't happy, as I thought with 12 seconds left, the transition to fighting the dragon would auto-revive my 2nd character. I was wrong.

5) Position the lvl-1 near the tail of the dragon, otherwise you might not be able to get through the fire in time to enter the 3rd fight sequence due to screen-visibility boundaries.

6) In the 3rd sequence, only ONE character needs to reach the dragon's head. As long as one of your characters avoids the dragon breath and presses whatever action buttons appear while traveling to the head, you're golden. Getting hit by dragon breath or failing to hit the action button only resets the character that was hit or missed actions, not both characters. Thankfully.

7) Whoever reached the head of the dragon is the ONLY one that will have control of the Dragon's Lair-like button sequence. The other controller can be completely ignored.

Once the weapon in plunged into the eye, **POP** achievement!
