After you have gotten so far into the story you'll be able to build a Memorial and later you will be able to upgrade it to unlock all 23 vigils. Each vigil is essentially a challenge to complete. When you complete a challenge you will recieve an inventory item specific to that challenge. Take the item to the Memorial and select the vigil with a red star over it to "complete" the challenge.

I reccomend completing the vigils in your first playthrough. Once you have completed the game for the first time select "Continue" from the Main Menu to load your game just before the last level. You can then use "Who Knows Where" for the weapon ones as well as the proving grounds.

If you're having trouble with any of the vigils then see this guide for reference (credit to L0cke89 at x360a):

The only thing I would add that is not in the guide... The Proving Ground for the Flaming Bellows is also very easy if you have 3 or 4 upgrades on it. TSG Dwaggie comments that rolling after each of the first two groups of enemies will make things even easier.
The proving grounds I completed (and found the easiest were):
Bow, Repeater, Musket, Hammer, Flamethrower, Mortar, and Pistols.

EDIT: Guys... if you're going to give a negative vote then at least let me know why so I can improve the guide.

Note (Credit: JORAX) : If you start a New Game Plus before completing this achievement, it keeps some vigil records, but not all. For instance, you will have to re-do the Proving Grounds challenges. Just something to keep in mind!

Note 2: (Credit: Zedarboy): "One note about "The Menders" on that guide you linked, they say that the enemy needs to be under 20% hp when you defeat it with a counter, but it's actually YOU that needs to be under 20% hp. After trying for ages I just let a mob hit me until I was under 20% hp, then shield countered, killed it and got The Menders."

Onsidicthe fire bellows challenge - found a quick way of doing this.
    1. Purchase stabsinthe and equip it. (werewhiskey and graver gimlet also good to use with stabsinth)
    2) go to firebellows challege, DO NOT pick up the bellows
    3. either fall off the edge next to the boxes to destroy them, or let the birds attack you so it removes the barriers (combo of both is sometimes better
    4. Stand/walk around so that the peckers attack you and get killed from the stabsinthe effect
    5. Repeat in all 3 areas (will have about 72kills)
    6. Once they are all dead go and pick up the bellows to activiate challenge, and just let the time run out. KERCHING 1st place prize

Failure OnlineCouldn't do pistols, ended up doing pike challenge. It was really easy, just walk through and flip the switches. Doesn't matter if you die, because the clock stops. Got first place on my first try. HOWEVER, this may only work for people who are on the infinite life mode.

While this may not be a complete solution it's a solution for part of 1 vigil. In the dueling ground you are required to score 750 for first place. I had difficulty since I can't mash buttons that quickly. I hooked up my turbo controller and mapped the x button to spam when I held it down. I scored 833 on the first attempt with my turbo. The vigil this is for requires you the get first prize in 7/11 proving grounds. I hope this helps.

Edit: thanks to Kruulos for discovering this. If you don't have a turbo controller you can use the Werewhiskey spirit that gives you 100% crit once you are below 33% health. Just drop down from the bridge few times before picking up the guns and you are golden.

If you downvote plz let me know why

KruulosIf you don't happen to own a turbo controller you can easily win the dueling ground proving ground with the Werewhiskey spirit that gives you 100% crit once you are below 33% health. Just drop down from the bridge few times before picking up the guns and you are golden. I got 832 without any turbo on first try.
