This is obtained by defeating Pinwheel, the boss of the Catacombs. Having a divine weapon to reach him is almost a must given the otherwise continuously reviving enemies on the way (though killing the undead mages does help this as well, you're really best saving yourself headaches by bringing a divine-enchanted weapon.)

Pinwheel himself is actually a pretty easy boss comparatively speaking, as he doesn't have a tremendous amount of health and if you pay attention you can dodge his primary attack--slow to charge straight-line projectiles--with relative ease. The tricky part of the fight is that he will begin to clone himself and randomly teleport around the area--with each clone starting to shoot off the same attacks as well.

Try to knock out the clones anyways (they should drop to a hit or two from a divine weapon)--and keep an eye out for the one doing the 'clone more of myself' animation to pick out which one is the real Pinwheel. Once he's down, you'll get the Rite of Kindling which helpfully allows you to kindle bonfires for even more Estus flasks in tough areas.

Gaist HeideggerPinwheel's pretty easy if you don't give him a chance to make too many clones, yeah--not surprisingly, you'll run into him as a regular enemy towards the tail end of the Tome of Giants after the Catacombs. Coincidentally, that spot is the best place to gather humanity in the game--tiny baby skeletons spawn continuously with a very high drop rate of humanity, but you need to be quick (practically mashing A) to get it before it disappears. It's a good go-to spot when you're looking to build humanity.

Octobot SuperI love how open ended this game is. I'm still looking for the second bell (I haven't even found Blighttown yet) and I thought that I might like to explore the Catacombs.

Interestingly, I had tried exploring them once before and died after realizing that the skeletons revived even after I killed them. When I returned later, I found that I was killing them once and that was it; I chalked it up to bad memory and thought that I just imagined them reviving before. However, after reading this solution, I realized I had recently upgraded my longsword to a Divine weapon, which would be the reason.

Anyway, I managed to take down Pinwheel (took two tries), and got my Rite of Kindling. I guess I'll be heading onward to the area beyond the boss fight (Valley of Giants or something?) hoping that I can find something useful there. I still have no idea where to go for that second bell, haha.

This achievement unlocks after defeating Pinwheel in the Catacombs.

It's possible to make a few strategic drops to reach the bottom of the catacombs without having to fight your way through the entire area.

    First drop
Second drop (to Paladin Leeroy's summon sign

Be careful as skeletons will continue to come back to life after you kill them.

From here, drop to a small ledge to the right and Leeroy should drop down and kill any nearby enemies. Then make your way to the cave to the right to reach the fog door that leads to the Pinwheel encounter.

If you don't rest at any bonfires in the catacombs, you can use a Homeward Bone after killing Pinwheel to get directly back to Firelink Shrine. It's very advantageous to do this early so you can kindle bonfires up to 20.

The Pinwheel encounter is one of the easiest in the game. Pinwheel will summon clones of himself and occasionally teleport around the arena and shoot fireballs at you.

The Rite of Kindling allows you to kindle bonfires up to two additional times, which will allow your Estus Flask to hold up to 20 uses. This is a great benefit early on.
