Since you can't swap Skylanders at all, obviously you can't die and still get this achievement. I had trouble on this for a bit. After trying a few things, I figured a way to do it pretty easily without dying. Here's how:

Gill Grunt (leveled up to level 10) made all the difference. Every time Kaos summoned a new group of 3 dark Skyander minions, I focused on hitting him and not the minions. If you hit him enough, you don't even need to kill the minions at all; Kaos will just progress to the next section of the battle. You won't even get hit much if you can cause damage to Kaos quickly enough.

If you level Gill Grunt's skills up appropriately, causing enough damage is no prob. I chose the Water Hose path when I had to choose. Then I bought each upgrade. The last three skills are the most important, especially the Neptune Gun. Then, when fighting Kaos, you just need to hold the RT to spray your Hose and repeatedly hit "A" to fire the exploding shells at the same time. It works like a charm.

I was using a hat that gave bonuses to critical hit and armor. This seemed to help as well. Also, I played in co-op, so the other player helped a little too.

Other than this, you just have to be good at dodging the elemental hazards.

    Hope this helps.

EDIT: Good tip from the comments--like with the other "boss" related achievements, if you do die, just hit Y to restart chapter and begin the fight over again. This won't negate the achievement.

TheBigBBI did this with Camo on the vines path. The vines just annihilate Kaos, as all the explosions will connect due to his large hitbox. Camo's soul gem allows him to heal himself for 40 damage if you create three orbs by charging your main attack. Also, you CAN use items on this. I used a healing potion and a shield.

Jninja70Followed this guide and beat kaos but trophy didnt pop, I tried skipping the video incase it popped after that but my console crashed. The solution needs to include when the trophy will pop.

DrSchlepensteinGreat guide, it should also be noted that like the other "boss" related achievements, if you do die, just hit Y to restart chapter and begin the fight over again. I died during his final attacks (got him by the fire attack and couldn't get free) and just restarted, beat him on my 2nd try without dying and still got the achievement once the credits rolled.

m0nk3yboyGreat solution, bouncing bullets for the win! I can also confirm that using 'trinkets' (ghost swords, dragon fly, health potion, etc) does not negate the achievement. I had the kids subbing those things in to keep them engaged during the 'longer than it had to be' boss fight.

(Note: Was lv 10 Gill when achieveing)
    1) Get: Gill Grunt and upgrade along the water hose path and fully upgrade to obtain simply put, the infinite jetpack/hose.
    2) Method: First two rounds, easy food using gill. The minions will be standing in front of whatshisface, you'll easily get the food and damage whatshisface alot.
    3) The hydras: Alot of people had problems with this, so did I... till I worked it out.
Life hydra: If you get damaged by this one.... I'm sorry, stop reading and give up now. Easiest one, pray for this. Slow moving attack, you'll well damage whatshisface before they're even close.
Water hydra: Stay CLOSE to the shark spawns. I know that sounds stupid but, it's really not, when spawning the sharks are widespread and easily navigated, instead of converged wayyy at the back of the arena.
Undead hydra: North-west corner of the arena, stand there, can't hit you, don't even have to move.
Fire hydra: South-east/west corners, same deal as undead.
From all these locations you can easily hit the whatshisface in the process.
Minions: I honestly, barely attack them. I spam pump at the start (without jetpack on) then face left/right, activate jetpack (so you continue to face that direction and lap in circles the arena, even the rangers round, they can't hit you, spray when your on the appropriate angle, don't leave the circular motion, don't even TRY to shoot whatshisface, unless it's guarenteed.
This sounds long and shifty but, by playing it safe and doing most of the damage during the hydra defense rounds, your life will be easier.
    Hydra spam:
Honestly, I camped southern corners to avoid undead and fire hydra, nature can't hit you from that far, and you'll NEVER have sharks at the same time as undead, so don't worry.

Small tips: ALWAYS keep jetpack on except for the brief period before, jetpack increases your speed, you'll need it.
    NEVER charge at minions. EVER.
Preferably, run anti-clockwise. (Personal choice but, I always tend to have less problems.)
Hydra's quickly switch, the tornado's on the left and right of the head will show what to expect before the head's change, sounds pointless but, if your a bit stressed/panicky, gives you those few extra recuperation seconds.

    -Thanks, hope it helps.
