This is the 3rd quest in the main questline. This is the quest that most of us have seen in the 3 demo videos released by Bethesda. Keeping spoilers to a minimum the objective of this quest is to retrieve an artifact from Bleak Falls Barrow. You will also pick up the golden claw quest.

To start this quest you must speak to the jarl in dragonsreach.
    *Possible Spoilers*
Just battle your way through the Barrows. Once you get to the puzzle door the clue to open it is on the golden claw itself. I only knew this from seeing the demo videos.
Once you get to the end of the barrow where the artifact is, you will see your first dragon wall. Be sure to pick up your first word of power from here. Defeat the guardian and take the artifact from his battered corpse. All thats left to do now is take it back to Farengar.

You still have the golden claw from the sidequest at this point. To complete this side quest return to Lucan in the Riverwood Trader.

Brooklyn GinI went to get the claw for that guy in riverwood, went through the part of the game that was in the demo spoiler..... got the shout word, then gave the claw back to the riverwood guy. Im guessin I'm going to have to go steal the claw back to start the quest proper.

The One SaxtonShouldnt have too. Start the bleakfalls barrows quest and go back. The passage should be clear so just run through and get the dragonstone if you haven't already picked it up. Then return to Farengar at dragonsreach

Brooklyn GinCheers for the speedy answer. I imagined the guy wanting to see the claw or something stupid. Sweet, will be able to just fly through for that quest.

Before I went to Whiterun, I had already completed the Golden Claw sidequest and returned the claw to the Riverwood Trader. During this sidequest I had picked up the artifact for Farengar so that when I went to Whiterun, I completed the quest immediately. You will also get a Word of Power and an Ancient Nord Sword of Cold from the boss of the Bleak Falls dungeon, which is a good sword for the beginning of the game.

You get this achievement by giving Farengar, a court wizard of Whiterun, the Dragon Tablet you find after using the Golden Claw to open the last part of Bleak Falls Barrow.

This achievement is a part of Objectives: "The Golden Claw" and "Bleak Falls Barrow". But can easily be accomplished by thoroughly completing "The Golden Claw", as "Bleak Falls Barrow" just has the Jarl of Whiterun having you talk to Farengar who then asks you to aid him in his research of dragons. After some talking to the wizard he will ask that you go retrieve an item from the Barrows called the "Dragon Tablet", if you already collected this item when you finished the Golden Claw objective you'll automatically finish this one and you'll get this achievement.

I also believe this is a story based achievement, so you'll need this to move the main storyline along.
