Sorry Chris, there's a much easier way to do this. It should take you less than 5 minutes and you can forget about it being luck based once you figure this method out.

You will be playing in Supernova mode.

1) Check out this pic (can you embed pics in solutions?) and make the two shots shown: http://www.funketyme.com/images/games/wp7/orbital.gif

2) As a guideline, the first shot shout hit off the top of the playfield about one character's width to the left of the start of your gamertag.

3) Once you make those shots, do the same thing on the right side of the screen. Now you should have two of the three "that was close" ...

4) Now, pick a side and bounce five shots off the bottom orb to destroy it. It shouldn't be too hard to have those 5 shots go up to the top area of the playfield.

5) Repeat step one again and you'll have all three. If you have trouble with shots on one side, you can always just repeat steps 1 and 3 three times on your "good" side.

Should take you less than five minutes once you have that first shot in step 1 mastered.

Hmm ... I'm unclear exactly what you're having difficulty with. After the first shot the orb should stop in the top third of the playfield. For the second shot you hit it off the orb from the first shot and it should get very close to the bottom line. Are you not able to do that at least?

works great thanks i found that you could retry the left hand side attempt again and park the 3rd that was close attempt next to your first try, try the left hand side first the the right hand side and back to the left hand side

Great solution. Took me about 5 attempts to get the initial shot down. Then I did it on the right side and managed to guess it perfectly. Also managed to get the third without moving anything with those two in place. Might have been luck for the third shot, but I'll take it.

Probably doesn’t matter anymore as servers are closing soon… but I was having awful trouble with this thanks to the touch controls. I worked around this by turning the phone upside down, for the avatar side I aimed to shoot at the gap between the avatar square and the first number. The other side aim at the first digit if the friend has double digit score or the middle digit if they have a triple digits score (if looking at the screen the normal way). For the third close shot, I got it by aiming slightly off centre (inwards) to the middle of the bottom balls (left or right works).
