I am currently 3/4 the way through a play on hardcore, and so far it is challenging, but possible (the only issue being the length between some checkpoints).
In terms of advice/tips to get through I would comment as follows;
Always target the shell like spawn points at the earliest opportunity - no point killing any monsters when the spawn point will just pop out another. I usually target the bulbous bits at the bottom with guns whilst running towards them, and get up close (usually round the back to give you longer to attack before the puppies get to you), and slash away. As enemies approach run away, circle round and rinse and repeat.
For the main enemies, the puppies slash you into bits regularly, so I always concentrate on them first, circling/combat rolling round and shooting them from a distance. When they are done, I then deal with the walker/blade things. Usually with the sword you can get in close and hack away, killing them before they can attack. Don't waste your ammo on these, as they are slow, and seem to soak up loads of it.
Later on the black explosive puppies will blow you apart when they die, so always use guns on these, running in circles. A good tactic is to wait until they are low health and shoot them when they are in a crowd.
The rocket/machine gun walkers explode on death, so avoid up close with the sword - but as they deal serious damage should be targeted immediately with guns when they appear.
There are only 4 pandas in the game, but here, I found a shotgun to the face up close deals serious damage, then when they go down, get up close and use your sword. Keep slashing even when they start to regenerate, and you can usually get them down in 3 attempts.
Similarly, the enemies that there stomachs glow, keep back, shoot them in the guts, and just get ready to combat roll when they shoot out debris at you.
The shotgun (until grenade launcher - lvl 7) is the best weapon I've found - let the puppies approach and then bam! serious damage.
Pay serious attention to your load outs. You can change it at any time, even mid battle. So go all out for gun improvements when shooting, then pause, change them for melee attacks, and then go in for the kill. I was changing my loadouts 2-3 times every fight, depending on my tactics.
There seems to be a lot more fire than electricity, so the explosive bullets are a better option than the elctricity ones
The exploding arm is also very handy, as it does serious damage, is unlimited and respawns very quickly - very good on spawn points and also for throwing down, and then leading enemies over it, as you can time when it explodes. Similarly, there are a lot of exploding barrels around - use them to your advantage as they deal serious damage as well.
Another essential for the loadout is the slow-mo ability (from memory it even says its essential!) - when things slow, just combat roll no matter what. That said, even if you think you might be in danger, combat roll, as it seems a hell of a lot harder for enemies to dismember you at this point. Also combat roll is especially your friend during panda fights, and against the large puppies later on.
When you get dismembered, it goes wothout saying try and get back to the main body (neck) ASAP as when attached you can't be swallowed. If that's tricky, try and attach to arms and legs, as this will speed up the time before you can regenerate. If neither of these are possible, try and hide round scenery to avoid being sucked up, moving round it as they come close to avoid them.
Hope this helps - by all means meesage if you have questions/want more info help.
