This achievement is tough. I don't recommend trying this with mouse/keyboard controls. At the very least, use an Xbox controller. That's how I did it, and it works, though something tells me it would've been easier with a real flight stick. I also did this in Free Camera view, since the Stearman's cockpit is hard to see out of.

For these missions you're graded on three things: Vertical speed on landing, horizontal speed on landing, and proximity to the center of the runway. For each category you're given up to 500 points. A total score of 1450 is required for gold on each mission, which basically means you have to be perfect. The difference between 1450 and a perfect 1500 is near trivial.

Vertical speed is by far the hardest to get right. Basically it means that you have to be coming down as gradually as possible. If you bump at all on landing, you get few or no points. Even if you think you did a great job, you can still lose points here. The best way to score high is to come in gradually as parallel to the runway as possible. Pull up right before you land. I recommend keeping the throttle at 10% or so while you're landing, so your last pull up doesn't cause you to stall and land hard. I also suggest that you level out the trim so you're completely in control when you're landing and don't have to factor that in. Don't forget to brake - if you zip off the runway and crash, it doesn't count.

Horizontal speed is usually a free 500 points for you, just don't land on the runway at an angle. The best way to do that is to turn toward the runway long before you get there. You don't want to have to try to turn and land at the same time.

Landing in the center of the runway is easy on all missions with the possible exception of the first. For the first mission you actually get to land at an airport! Get good at this first mission, because until you can nail it consistently you'll have no hope with the others. For the rest you get to land on airstrips, which are much thinner and much shorter. They're so thin that it's tough not to get 500 points in this category, though you can manage it if you veer to the left or right before you touch the ground.

You can approach airstrips from either direction. Find the one that works best for you, and just land over and over until you get it right. And then keep doing it, because you can get docked even when you think your landing was perfect.

I suggest that the first thing you do in each mission is pull up and find the runway. The hardest part of the last five missions is just picking the damn thing out of the scenery. Sometimes you get help - mission four has a row of trees along the runway so it's easier to see, and mission 6 has a road that leads right up to the runway if you approach it from the right (relative to your starting position).

I found mission 3 the hardest because the runway is so hard to spot, but if you turn left and pull up right when you start, then take a quick right, you should be able to see the runway and home in on it.

Good luck. With persistence, you can get this.
