This guide is to help others unlock the following achievement: King of the Hill -- Get to the top of the Best of the Best ladder in Home Run Derby mode.

Go to the Games Mode in the Menu. Select Home run Derby. Under Home run Derby you have two choices. Choose "Best of the Best." Defeating the "best of the best" involves winning one vs. one HR battle against 20 of the game's alleged best HR sluggers.

There are 5 player matches per each section of the "ladder." After you defeat each of the individual players in one vs. one you have the chance to select one of your defeated sluggers for the next round or rest of game should you choose to do so.

With this list and a little prep time & tweaking of the opponents' stats & hitting style, this achievement should be fairly painless & easy.

On each of the players on this list I would recommend decreasing their numerical values they have to the lowest number of 25 in these categories: contact vs righty, power vs righty (since the derby uses only righty pitchers), eye, & home run. Just to make sure I changed their clutch to lowest level and strikeout & ground all to maximum number (99-100). Furthermore to leave nothing to chance I also switched each opponent to batting righty vs righty.

I also started changing my opponents batting stance to Ichiru. (It definitely made a huge difference for me to change hitters' stances to Ichiru's in other yearly renditions of this game. For those who may not be big baseball fans, Ichiru is a good slap singles hitter but he's not known for having any home run hitting prowess.) In other renditions of this game this switch alone would make a few of the tougher sluggers hit less than half what they'd hit prior to changing this setting.

When you get ready to start your game choose whichever batting controls work best for you. Personally in the HR Derby's I fare much better using the thumb stick control over the classic ("A-button" to hit). Yet, in normal fame mode unusually prefer classic control. Either will suffice. If using thumb stick control don't use the left stick at all just use the right t-stick, pushing up. Practice your timing in the other HR derby if you have trouble with your timing.

Now, choose any player not they have listed by team. in mlb2k13 and 2k12 (yes, I did them in backwards order) I chose to use catcher, Buster Posey, of the SF Giants. I maxed up all his hitting stats, esp. Power, Eye, hitting vs Right & Left, making contact vs Right & Left (probably just need vs righty since I've yet to see a lefty in throw in HR derby in mlb 2k series)

I changed Posey's batting to lefty since he'll face a righty in the derby. Plus, it just felt easier for me in timing my hitting this way.

One other tip I should mention especially if you do this 2k12 version AFTER you did 2k13. In mlb 2k13 you could stop your game, shut down your xbox in between each batter duel is over & the game is saved so you can leave &'comeback later of finish. I learned the hard way that this is not true for mlb 2k12! I was about halfway through the 20 duels when I had to leave for a meeting. Since I knew the 2k13 version allowed me to shut down my console in the middle of the 20 duels I stupidly shut down my console right before my 9th duel. When I came back I realized my mistake & had to start all over! LOL! You have been pre-warned! ;)

The default stadium is Arizona D-Backs stadium, it is just listed has 2012 all-star game. You can go to the stadiums & scroll through if you have a preference. For me, I like the way my timing goes in the Oakland A's Coliseum at night with wind calm. You can edit stadium, time of day and wind conditions.

On to the list of home run duels:
Note: I will include the home run tallies of each round. I won each on my 1st attempt until the final duel which took me 2 attempts.)

My batter: Buster Posey (with power, home run, eye, contact, etc maxed out.)

Section 1:
20.) Adrian Gonzalez, Boston Red Sox, (26-10)
19.) Josh Hamilton, Texas Rangers, (33-3)
18.) Evan Longoria, Tampa Bay Rays, (32-6)
17.) Ryan Braun, Milwaukee Brewers, (35-11)
16.) Troy Tulowitzki, Colorado Rockies, (33-6)

Player switch to players 16-20 available now. Or keep your player. (Obviously I'd recommend keeping your player if changed everyone's hitting abilities. LOL)

15.) Joey Votto, Cincinnati Reds, (23-10)
14.) Adrian Beltre, Texas Rangers, (29-5)
13.) Ryan Howard, Philadelphia Phillies, (30-9)
12.) Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers, (32-12) (GO TIGERS!!)
11.) Mike Stanton, Florida Marlins, (32-8)

Player switch to players 11-15 now available.

10.) Dan Uggla, Atlanta Braves, (26-18)
9.) Matt Kemp, LA Dodgers, (31-23)
8.) Mike Napoli, Texas Rangers, (30-20)
7.) Paul Konerko, Chicago White Sox, (29-10)
6.) Prince Fielder, listed in Free Agents section, (34-17)

Player switch to players 6-10 now available.

5.) Curtis Granderson, NY Yankees, (24-24 tie)
Note: if a tie occurs, the win goes to whoever hit the furthest Homerun in that round. My HR hit was 505 ft.
4.) Mark Teixeira, NY Yankees, (32-26)
3.) Mark Reynolds, Baltimore Orioles, (22-18)
I didn't even edit this guy at all. Luckily it went ok for me.
2.) Albert Pujols, LA Angels, (27-26)
Note, I know I forgot to edit Pujols batting stance to Ichiru's stance. He was hitting HR at will on me.
1.) Jose Bautista, Toronto Blue Jays, (18-26), (23-17)
As I mentioned earlier, Bautista beat me in the first round & I returned the favor in round 2.

At this point the achievement will unlock for a well-earned 20 GS!

Note: if you do lose a round the game will ask if you want to re-do that challenge. If you choose "yes" it means you only start with the player you just lost to, not a restart of entire game! Choosing "no" will later mean starting all over again with Adrian Gonzalez. This is different in the 2k13 version which allows you to quit & start back where you last won a match.

Hope this is helpful to some who are looking to unlock this achievement. Message me if any questions or if I have made any obvious, blatant mistakes or omissions. Thanks & good luck!
