How to unlock the Snooker: 147 Break achievement

Achieving the maximum break in snooker is an exceptional feat in real life. It is fairly difficult to achieve in WSC2007, but as long as you remember a few points you should stand a good chance of popping this one.

    - When using the positional circles, try to always finish "high" on each red so that you can easily reach the next black, otherwise you will have to either use spin to correct the cue ball off the cushions, or go "in and out of baulk" (going up the table, avoiding the yellow, brown and green, to get back down to the black again).

    - Try to avoid finishing straight on the black, it is ALWAYS best to have a slight angle to work with. Otherwise you may need to either use a lot of screw (backspin) to reach a good position for your next red, or "force an angle" by potting the black to the side of the pocket. Successfully potting the black is not guaranteed using the second method, especially if you need to play the shot at any great power.

    - Patience, patience, patience. It really is the key. You will be rewarded if you take your time.

    - The positional indicator is correct 95% of the time. However, on some rare occasions it does calculate incorrect positions that can be very misleading. If you have a feeling that the positional shadow is a bit dodgy on a shot, say if you were playing it with a lot of power and top spin and the cueball was still going to finish nearby, IT IS OKAY to second-guess the indicator and use your own discretion. Think about the physics of the shot and trust your judgement, it could save your break!

I have also noticed that the positional indicator can be a little misleading if you are using a "rest" (an extension which helps you reach shots that are too far down the table to play normally). The indicator tends to underestimate how much power you need to apply to the shot to reach the desired position. I tend to give these shots a little extra power, so I recommend you do so too.

    - It is very likely that at some point you will have to "go into the bunch" off the black or another red, in order to free up some more reds into pottable positions. DO NOT "STUN" THE CUE BALL INTO THE PACK! More often than not, the cue ball will lodge within the pack and you will ruin your positioning for the following ball. Always use lots of top spin or screw, because the cue ball will pull itself out of the pack after colliding with the reds. If you do have to stun, it is best to only glance off the bunch rather than hit it full in the face.

Note that the positional indicator will not show you where the cue ball will finish if it goes into other balls. You really need to use your own judgement on this, which can be tricky.

    - Check out YouTube for any videos of 147 breaks (see the video below of "The Essex Exocet", Ronnie O'Sullivan, for example), which will reinforce the tips I have mentioned.

Good luck, this is a very difficult achievement to earn but it is well worth the effort!

only thing i will add to the superb guide above is that you need an angle on the final black to get up to the yellow.

this is one of the hardest achievements around combining skill and luck.

Take your time and evaluate every shot.

Positioning is important and the pros in real life do this so i thought i mention it.

Make sure of the pot, ive seen countless breaks end cos the player concentrated too much on the positioning after the pot that they've missed.

Make sure you have got the pot beforehand and then worry about positioning.

if you have to go into the reds of a black, try and get yourself below the black, its fairly easy to get that angle to pot and because of the angle the white ball maintains speed into the reds to split.

the 2:26 mark of the video i've left demonstrates being below the black

good luck you will need it
