    The Path of Revenge is the main goal of your character -- to enact revenge upon the evil Marquis who captures his family, which he narrowly escapes, as depicted in the cutscene that plays when you start a new game.

    I highly recommend tackling this on the lowest difficulty setting so that your character will not be force into retirement before you are able to finish, and also to make the ship battles, city bombardment, and duels easier to win.

    There are 15 quests you must complete before you can duel the Marquis and you get these quests from the mysterious stranger in any city's tavern (he's the one in the back, center screen). When a task is completed, you will get a notification saying which step of the Path of Revenge you have just completed. However, you must talk to the mysterious stranger in any tavern to move on to the next quest.

    Path of Revenge –

    Items marked with an * can be completed before the quest is given and still count.

    1) Capture a Ship
    2) Defeat a top 10 pirate*
    3) Earn a rank promotion*
    4) Discover buried treasure*
    5) Find Lost Sister*
    6) Attack a city protected by a warship
    7) Amass 25,000 gold
    8) Find Lost Uncle*
    9) Dance with a beautiful girl
    10) Capture a galleon (trade, royal, treasure)
    11) Find Lost Aunt*
    12) Defeat top 10 pirate Henry Morgan*
    13) Get married*
    14) Find Lost Grandfather*
    15) Achieve rank of Duke*

    Reward: 50,000+ gold; 8 crew specialists.

    The monetary reward seems to depend on either crew size or overall quest progress. When I defeated him after having found all buried treasure, defeated all top ten pirates, and found all lost cities, I was rewarded with 100,000 gold, but I also had a crew of over 250. When I defeated him on a higher difficulty with a smaller crew and none of those extras finished, I only received 50,000 gold.

    For more detailed descriptions of the individual quests, look below.

    ---------------------Tips and Tricks---------------------

    You can add quest locations to your quest tracker. This is vital for completing the Path of Revenge. To do this from the sailing screen, simply select the map icon in the top left portion of the screen and choose the appropriate quest. If track is not available, it is because you are trying to select a partial map. Once you have a quest tracked, from the sailing screen, click the magnifying glass in the upper right portion of the screen, which will open a mini-map of sorts. On this mini-map, you will either see a flashing red circle, if your target is nearby, or an arrow pointing in the direction of your target. You can track top ten pirates, Baron Raymondo, or map locations, such as missing relatives or buried treasure.

    Also of note -- you can change your flagship. While the sloop you begin the game with is speedy and can zip around your enemies, it is fragile and lacks a punch, only capable of holding 12 guns. To change your flagship you must first capture another ship:

    Once you have a ship you would like to be your new flagship, go to the menu and select the ship icon. Then, find the name of the ship and select flagship.

    2/12) Defeat a top ten pirate/Defeat Henry Morgan:

    This quest is related to the following achievement

    Sid Meier's Pirates! (WP)Pirate HunterThe Pirate Hunter achievement in Sid Meier's Pirates! (WP) worth 51 pointsDefeat all Top 10 Pirates

    I typically found him around Havanna/Florida.

    3/15) Earn a rank promotion/Achieve the rank of Duke:

    To earn a rank, visit the governor after doing things that please his nation - such as:

    1) escorting new governor's to cities, which can be done from settlements aligned with that nation;
    2) escorting immigrants from Jesuit missions near that nation's cities;
    3) having settlement mayors send improved sugarcane and other such benefits to a city of that nation;
    4) defeating pirates, especially those on the top 10;
    5) defeating ships that belong to enemy nations (the governor will tell you who they are at war with; you can also see on the left-hand side of the world map, represented by flags side-by-side);
    6) plundering cities that belong to enemy nations;
    7) capturing cities for the governor's nation;
    8) defeating Indian war canoes

    Doing any of the above at the expense of the nation will hurt relations and could slow down advancement.

    Each rank has a benefit, such as easier recruiting in that nation's cities, or cheaper repairs -- these benefits build on each other, so it is in your interest to get the highest rank possible, Duke. Capturing cities speeds this process up greatly. The rank of Duke allows you to get free ship upgrades and all repairs cost 1 gold, along wih recruiting and trade benefits.

    4) Discover buried treasure:

    5/8/11/14) Lost relatives:

    These quests are required for the following achievement

    6) Attack a city protected by a warship:

    In the quest section of the menu under the Path of Revenge, this has an alternate description that states bombard a medium or large city and win. That is what I did and it worked. Cities such as Havana, or San Juan, or Port Royale, should count. To determine the size of a city, large, medium, or small, go to the menu and look at the world map. If you zoom in to the middle of the map you should notice a building icon near some cities - if it is a large building, it qualifies as a large city; no building indicates it is a small city while a smaller building indicates a medium city.

    I highly recommend a Galleon with 32 guns as your flagship for this, which should produce a message about having a great chance of defeating your enemies.

    9) Dance with a beautiful girl:

    This may or may not be missable. If you marry a beautiful girl, you will always be able to dance with her when yo visit. If, however, you have danced with all the beautiful girls in the Caribbean before you are given this quest, you may not be able to dance with them again. I advise leaving one beautiful girl alone just in case.

    10) Capture a Galleon:

    These are often found around Spanish cities, especially wealthy ones. If you hear a rumour in a tavern about the Treasure Fleet heading to a city, you will find multiple Treasure Galleons in the vicinity of that city if you travel there quickly.

    13) Get married:
