In order to make a Wooden Pickaxe you first need to craft a Crafting Table (Details here:

Once you have your Crafting Table and have at least two blocks of Wood in your inventory walk up to your Crafting Table and press
to open the crafting menu and craft the Wood blocks into Wooden Planks, one wood block crafts 4 Wooden Planks.
Now craft one of the Wooden Planks into Sticks.
You are now ready to craft your Wooden Pickaxe.
A Pickaxe requires 3 Wooden Planks and 2 Sticks.Here's a video showing you
