This is a simple way I've found on youtube (see video at the end of the solution).
It worked for me, and I've done it using only one bucket to carry lava and water.

EDIT: After the Title Update 12 in the tutorial level you can find a bucket in the castle, and a lava pool near the sea after the castle.

In the Brewing Room there is a chest with a bucket:

On the other side of the castle you can see the sea, a lake, and a lava pool:

This solution is the easiest way I have found using the current tutorial world “Elytra”. It’s relatively easy to get everything you need. The instructions look long but really, almost everything you need is in the tutorial.

Start a new tutorial. Press “B” to skip the introduction and walk up the stairs into the tutorial village. Open the chest in the miniature cave for the Iron Pickaxe. It is adjacent to the red stone area which is near the library bookshelves room. Once you have the Iron Pickaxe, go get a diamond block (the blue blocks forming the base of the beacon ray of light). Grab the iron ingots in the chest while you are at the beacon. Then punch a tree for some wood. Use a crafting table to make planks, sticks, diamonds (under the decorations tab) to craft a diamond Pickaxe.

Now go to the anvil area (next to the golem, there’s a villager, crafting table, furnace and anvil there). Open the chest, get a lava bucket. There should be a tutorial prompt about the anvil, press “B”, walk away a bit, and re open the chest. This process should duplicate the lava bucket as many times as you need.

To make obsidian, dig a hole (near ish the pond and anvil is fine), pour the lava into the hole with “LT”, then go to the water, fill it with “LT”, then pour the water with “LT” NEXT to the hole with lava (water is scooped up with “LT” as well). If done correctly, you should have a single block of obsidian.

If you end up with a cobblestone, you likely poured the water directly on top of the lava, not next to it. Or you dug a hole that wasn’t a single block (flowing lava becomes cobblestone, stagnant lava becomes obsidian). Repeat until you have ten obsidian.

In order to find a flint, you need to look up what granite looks like in Minecraft, try to find some. The hardest part of this is exploring the nearby hills, mining rocks until you find granite, which has a 10% chance of producing flint.

Go to a crafting table and craft a “flint and steel”, and you have everything you need.

Build a rectangle (without corners) with the obsidian blocks.

Making a rectangular doorway. Light the portal with the flint and steel with “LT” and you’re done! It really only takes a couple minutes when you find all the stuff you need.

In summary:

1) Iron Pickaxe to get diamond Pickaxe.
2) Lava buckets for obsidian.
3) Find a flint to get flint and steel.
4) Build the nether portal and light it.
