This achievement is one of the more difficult ones to unlock due to the PGR4 matchmaking system and relative lack of online players.
Here are some methods for unlocking this, from hardest to easiest:
1. By Yourself, no boosting partner.
- You cannot choose 4 on 4 tournament and instead have to rely on the game to match you to a 4 on 4, so simply getting into a tournament where the achievement is even possible will be tough.
- You cannot force the game to match you to players of similar skill, and will usually see a "Pro" or better on the random teams. At the same time, you could be potentially matched with multiple Rookie or Recreational players.
2. With 3 other partners - 4 player party.
- In a party of 4, you will always get placed in 4 on 4 matches. However, you may find yourself waiting - over 15 minutes - just to get in a single tournament!
- Keep in mind you can get 3,000 bonus kudos per event, so if you are behind in an event and it looks like you might not place, try to max out the kudos you do get.
3. With 7 other partners - 2 parties of 4
- This setup has a good chance of getting you matched to each other, but again the matchmaking system will sometimes simply never match you to your preferred party due to "TrueSkill", server latency, or other factors.
4. With 7 other partners - One party of 4, Two parties of 2.
- This setup has a high probability of getting at least 6 of you in the same tournament. Then, the team of 2 intentionally loses to the team of 4, which will hopefully cause the other two random players on the losing team to quit, or at least agree to boost. You'll have to swap parties at some point so everyone can be on the team of 4.
5. By yourself - glitch.
- Occasionally in PGR4 you may find yourself get disconnected from the tournament - where you continue to race, but all your opponents quit out. Interestingly, you do not get disconnected from XBOX Live, and the game continues to place you in the remaining events of the tournament. If this disconnect happens on the first event, before any kudos score are tallied, you will effectively be the only one racing for your team, with all 7 other players tied for second with a score of 0. Depending on how the scoreboard looks at the end, as long as your color teammates occupy the top 4 spots--this achievement, along with 1-2 finish and team leader--will unlock. So, if you can *force* a disconnect like this to happen - router reset, high latency - you can unlock this achievement.
- Note that disconnecting from a tournament lowers your "TrueSkill" as it is considered a quit.
