How to unlock the Precious Medal achievement

    Basic Information:

This will be a difficult achievement and it will take you time and practice. Firstly, you'll need to concentrate on unlocking all your powerups and grinding some coins. Do this by playing songs with no powerups, (preferably songs you haven't played before because they will give you a coin bonus). It will take you a few hours to unlock all powerups, and by this time you'll have a nice amount of coins to work with and hopefully a good baseline skill level for the game.

You will want to use the Freakish control scheme. Standard works okay in the short term but your thumbs will feel bruised and raw after a couple hours. The triggers and bumpers will be the left and right buttons in Freakish, X is the overdrive power, and you can use the joysticks to switch tracks. If you hit both joysticks at once, you can move two tracks at once. Also, for a long string of the same button, you can alternate the bumper and trigger.

Don't feel bad when you're only getting three or four stars on songs without the powerups. This is completely normal. Just grind through them for a few hours. If you want to use a turbo controller to grind, just get a x4 on an instrument and turbo the two buttons on that instrument and you'll usually get at least two stars.

Once you have your powerups and some coinage, it's time to start working on the gold stars. Before I get into the powerups, I want to point out that you need to be very careful when switching between the instruments. If there is a note within the hit window on either the source or destination track, then it will count as a miss if you don't hit it. So you at least need to have the presence of mind to hit the note in the track you're going to. It's very easy to ruin your Blitz meter when doing this, which when sustained will be giving you a 500 point bonus every ten notes. (Averaging 50 more points per note.)

    Powerups:

As for your powerups, here's what I think: You'll want to use Blast Notes most of the time. You shouldn't be tempted by the 10,000 point bonus on the Runaway notes. Yes, I struggled and used them to get a few gold stars, but in the long run, they distract you too much from hitting notes and leveling up your multipliers. You will almost always want to use Blast Notes, because you won't feel pressured to jump across three tracks to hit one, and a lot of times they will come your way naturally.

The instrument bonuses are a given, you will want to boost the points on a given instrument depending on the song. These are called Super Guitar, Super Bass, etc... Spoonman, for example has a lot of bass sections and you can score some serious points boosting your bass score. Bang Your Head is a great song for the drums.

As for the overdrive bonus, you'll want to use Bottle Rocket or Jackpot or Road Rage. Bottle Rocket is good one because it also will come with the side bonus of helping out with the multipliers across all instruments. It's also good because you will get one for every 1/4 of the overdrive meter. You can clear a lot of notes this way. Road Rage is similar to Bottle Rocket in that it will automatically clear a portion of the notes on the screen. Instead of clearing a single horizontal section, Road Rage goes crazy from the bottom of the screen out into the distance, destroying notes, depending on how full your overdrive meter was. There is a greater chance with road rage that it'll net you some more overdrive meter.

I, however, prefer the Jackpot bonuses. When I found that I couldn't gold star any more songs, I had to look for new strategy, so I tried out the Jackpots. In conjunction with the instrument bonuses, Jackpots can be used to get massive point boosts. On the song So Far Away I got one 85,000 point bonus, and on Shout, I ended up getting a total of 254,000 points total from the bonuses, gold starring it with points to spare. Just be very careful switching tracks, and don't be tempted by a Blast Note three lanes over if you think you can't reach it without messing up. Just play it safe and play out the Jackpot and you won't regret it.

You'll have to take your best guess as to what instrument to boost on your first playthrough of a song, judging by the instrument difficulty ratings. If you choose the wrong one, you will need to play out the song to earn back a few of your coins and try it again the next time. Sometimes boosting the right instrument will make the difference.

An important thing to note is that you have to beat the score of "The Duke" to make the gold star cutoff. He is a fictional character and won't always be visible on the score guage, depending on if you have a friend who has scored higher than him. Also, the powerups cost you coins, and if you find you are short, you will need to grind some more songs. It's always beneficial to play songs you haven't played yet.

    Suggested Strategies for Songs:

    Cult of Personality
Road Rage or Bottle Rocket/Blast Notes/Super Guitar

    Give It Away
    Road Rage/Blast Notes/Super Guitar

    Shout
This seems to be about the most difficult gold star in the game, but Callum x360a has discovered a nice little trick:
"A great tip for Shout is to use Super Guitar and when you get to the final solo of the song, save your Jackpot until the long sustains right after it. Keep hold of those sustains with a nice bar of Overdrive and you'll rack up about 100-150k alone."

    Diamond Eyes
Credit goes to Qwanimal for this strategy on Diamond Eyes:
I was really struggling with Diamond Eyes with Super Guitar, using either Jackpot or Road Rage, I was barely getting 400,000 points. I just gold starred it by using Super Keys and Jackpot instead. Much easier IMO, you can use jackpot on the long sustains, especially near the end of the song. After a few near misses I ended up getting 498K and 38th on the leaderboard.

MattiasAndersonLast song for me was "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" by Great White - 381,505 and I struggled a bit with this one. I did end up using the hori pad trick but on this song if you do that its important that you DONT max turbo during the solos to get perfect solo. What you want to do is to have it on lowest turbo and keep synchronizing to get a lot of points.

When syncro you switch track with RB and LB using freakish controls.

This way I got 397.349 points on my first attempt trying that instead of trying to just get the 20k extra points during the long solo at the end.

AscendantJayIs there a way to get Gold Stars on all songs by playing all notes (or most of them) with a Chronus Max or something?
Posted by AscendantJay on 08 Sep 23 at 17:15
Groudon199You can only gold a song using power-ups. With the game's servers offline, you can no longer use power-ups, meaning you can't gold star anything (aside from three delisted RBN songs). Doesn't matter what controller or accessory you use.

To start off with, I just recently earned gold stars on all of the disk songs. I would say that about 20 of them were easily obtainable, and 5 of them were either tricky or VERY frustrating. The three hardest, for me at least, were Cult of Personality, Give it Away and Shout. I kept track of my power-ups I used for every song when I gold starred them.

    Here is the complete list:
    1. Jessie’s Girl – Bandmate, Runaway Notes, Super Guitar
    2. Jungle Boogie – Jackpot, Runaway Notes, Super Guitar
    3. One Week – Jackpot, Runaway Notes, Super Vocals
    4. Raise Your Glass – Jackpot, Runaway Notes, Super Guitar
    5. We are Young – Jackpot, Runaway Notes
    6. Always – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Drums
    7. Bang Your Head – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Guitar
    8. Diamond Eyes –Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Guitar
    9. I’m Still Standing – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Keys
    10. Kids in the Street – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Bass
    11. A Little Less Sixteen Candles – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Drums
    12. Moves Like Jagger – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Vocals
    13. Once Bitten Twice Shy – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Guitar
    14. Pumped Up Kicks – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Drums
    15. Shine – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Guitar
    16. Sing – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Drums
    17. So Far Away – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Guitar
    18. The Wicker Man – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Guitar
    19. Stronger – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Guitar
    20. These Days – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Guitar
    21. Spoonman – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Guitar
    22. Give it Away – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Vocals
    23. Shout – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Bass
    24. Death on Two Legs – Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Guitar
    25. Cult of Personality – Road Rage, Blast Notes, Super Guitar

I will go ahead and include the way I used to gold star Cult of Personality, Shout, and Give it Away:

Cult of Personality (Road Rage, Blast Notes, Super Guitar)- First off, make sure to collect star power as much as possible. If there is every a blast note near star power notes, go ahead and switch to hit the blast note. Staying in blitz mode isn't that important, so don't stress out for missing notes and losing it, just make sure to hit the star power notes. After you get enough star power, activate Road Rage while you are on the guitar track. Most of the time the Road Rage will clear through the drums section and bass section. Only use Road Rage when there are MANY notes for bass, guitar, and drums at the same time. Next, I would like to keep in mind the combos. As long as you can at least increase the cap by 2 every checkpoint, then you will be set. Lastly, I would like to mention the guitar solos. The first is fairly easy, but the second is very difficult and hard to read. I HIGHLY recommend hitting the buttons as fast as possible to get 100% because the 10,000 extra points for a flawless solo could easily be the difference maker between 5 stars and gold stars.

Shout (Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Bass)- I found it best to increase the bass multiplier last, while hitting the blast notes and star power notes when they appear. Then as you are increasing the bass, use the Jackpot and only stay on that track. Also, make sure you activate the Jackpot during the chorus, and DON'T miss. If you miss more than one Jackpot, most likely you will not gold star. Also, make sure you get 100% on the keys and guitar solos in the song. After the guitar solo, you should have at least 3/4 of the Jackpot filled up. Right as the solo ends, and the bass starts, activate Jackpot. I believe I got like 90,000 from the Jackpot used after the guitar solo.

Give it Away (Jackpot, Blast Notes, Super Vocals)- I used the help from my friend Jesterhead22096's method to getting gold star. If it wasn't for him, this gold star would have taken me a lot longer. Basically, just do the usual...collect star power, hit blast notes, and correctly increase multipliers. The key thing for this song is, use Jackpot on the vocal track during the verses. There are a lot of notes, and a lot of star power notes on there, so Jackpot lasts a long time if you play flawlessly. Once I used his method, I earned gold star like 20 seconds before the song even ended. Thanks Jesterhead22096! :)

Other helpful hints for Rock Band Blitz:
The Duke: The Duke, as you may notice sometimes appears on your score meter. This represents the gold star cut-off. If you beat The Duke's score, you will earn gold star.

Star Power Notes: For effective uses of Jackpot, Road Rage, or Bandmate, you need to collect star power. I recommend attempting to hit as many star power notes as possible, even if you lose Blitz mode and miss notes switching tracks. The amount of points you would get from activating the power-ups ends up being way better than keeping your streak and avoiding star power.

Blast Notes: Basically, this is the same idea as star power notes. Hit as many of these as possible, especially if there are multiple tracks with star power notes because it will collect all of those for you.

Jackpot: This, at least for me, is the most effective power-up in the game. Just the score from Jackpot is usually 1/3 to 1/2 of my score for the song overall. The thing is, you have to 100% what you are playing while Jackpot is activating. If you are skilled to play flawlessly, use this power-up for sure. I recommend using Jackpot on the track that you have the "Super" power-up for. I also recommend using Jackpot right before a checkpoint so it will run out quicker and you will be able to max out the other instruments to increase the cap next checkpoint.

Checkpoints: My method is to generally get every instrument track up 2x. If all instruments have 2x, then go ahead and finish them off as you please. If you end up having 4 instrument tracks up 3x, then the other instrument is at 1x, the cap will not increase and that will be a huge score difference at the end of the song.

DON'T QUIT: If you notice that The Duke is significantly higher than you, don't be mislead and assume you won't get gold. This game is set up where most of you score will be in chucks. For instance, Jackpot will increase your score by over 70,000 at one time, same with 100% a solo, except that is 20,000. Also, you will still lost the coins you spent on the power-ups, so there is no use in quitting.

Well this sums it up for my solution on getting gold stars on the 25 disk songs. It may take a few tries for a few songs, but 15-20 of the songs are easily obtainable for the first gold star run. If there are an questions on more tips or anything, feel free to message me or comment, I will gladly help as soon as I notice. Good luck guys! :)

I am MindslaveThanks for these suggestions. Almost all of them worked for me and the couple that didn't still got me close to gold stars. The only thing I guess I would add is for people who are extremely used to rock band. Once I played more fluid (moving across lanes to hit blast notes, grabbing star power, hitting the random orange note), My scores shot up dramatically and I had finally gained my first on disk gold star (for some reason DLC seems much easier to gold star). Once I had the first gold star I knew how i needed to play the game and then the gold stars came fairly easily using your guide. Thank you!

MattiasAndersonFor cult personality I used a hori pad and had it on lowest turbo when it wasn't solo track. When the guitar solos showed up I changed it to the fastest turbo. That way I did get more points as I did not missclick too much on the normal track. But on the solos I wanted to hit everything to get 20k.

I had Overdrive power up which I used almost everytime I could except when there was the purple things that would activate my flame notes as I think the overdrive remove them.

I had the synchrony power up and I always switched track back and fourth in attempts to get 1500 to 2000 extra points each time I switch track. I of course never did that during the solos. I also made sure I didn't do it if it was risky when I saw a purple power up thing for the flame notes.

For the flame notes it was very important to hit as many I could so it lasted long. That was more important than gaining some extra points for sunchrony but I still did that when I catched flame notes if I was safe to do so.

I made sure I also leveled up the multiplier as much as I could but the blue lane and green lane was hard. That's why the road rage helped. For the first checkpoint it should be adding X2 out of 3.

So with a hori pad you have to just make sure you change how fast the turbo is when the solos start and end. At end of solo you want it to be slow turbo again. You hit notes automaticly. But you never get any blitz points.

my score when I gold stared this song was 372.093 points and I had 0 blitz points.

Without a hori pad I don't know if I ever would have managed to gold star cult of personality.

I am still working on the achievement.

Thanks turboruhland and upgradepolecat for your comments above. It helped!
