If you missed your initial chance to high five claptrap (like myself), don't worry. Later on in the game, upon the completion of the quest "Wildlife Preservation" (story line quest, unmissable) claptrap will request a high five after his upgrade. Melee his hand, and the achievement is yours. (can also be earned even later after completing the mission "Statuesque" in Jack's city named Opportunity. Return the mission to claptrap, press Y on him to request the high five, and then melee.)

EDIT: Adding a video from xblChoas (Goes along well with my text guide)

Mobius EvalonIt's worth noting that this is probably the first good chance you get to do this. You will always have the option to high-five claptrap after this point while he's standing still there, as opposed to getting exactly one opportunity to do so beforehand and having to chase him around Sanctuary.

Once you reach the Sanctuary you will be able to interact with Clap Trap for quests. He will reel off requests that would be almost impossible and extremely boring to complete But once you accept his quest, return to him and hand in the quest. He will insist on sharing the stash with you anyhow.

After you hand in the quest, he will scurry off. Just follow him until he starts bumping into a dweller nearby. You will now be able to walk up to him and request a high five by pressing "y". After this he will start to bounce up and down in place, then all you have to do is melee his hand.

Clap Trap can be found on the left hand side on the way in behind Scooters garage and just across from the medal center. You may need to melee Clap Traps hand a few times as it doesn't always seem to register.

If you happen to be playing with a friend, and they perform the high five, only they will be rewarded with the achievement. So either be first to high give Clap Trap, or go back to playing in single player an do it on your own.

    *ADDITION*

If you're having issues with method, just progress through the main story. You will need to obtain an upgrade for Clap Trap. Once you do, return to Clap Trap in Sanctuary. Once you issue the upgrade, he will ask for a high five.

MAJORPOOPYYup, Clap Trap keeps running away, hand raised, no matter how quick I press Y. Quite the glitch.

AlphaFistI can confirm if you quit the game by exiting to the dashboard (don't save and quit) and reload the option to high five is still there. I had to redo the quest. I waited until he stopped moving and shut down by he still sped off when I initiated the high-five. Ran after him hitting the melee button and it registered.

I tried this with my first character and he sped off and I failed the Achievement. The same thing happened with my second character but I quit to dashboard to prevent the game saving that I had completed the quest. This was all attempting it the first time in Sanctuary.

AgentLebowskiHere's what we did and it's probably worth mentioning. If you are playing multiplayer with 1 or more friends and you get to the point where you approach Claptrap in Sanctuary and he has the exclamation point over his head indicating he has a quest, just save and quit at that point. From the main menu, all players simply Continue on in single player and they will spawn in the center of Sanctuary. Everybody just run over to Claptrap and accept/complete the quest and all can get the achievement. For me, after checking his secret locker and seeing nothing inside, when I returned to him I had an option of hitting Y for a high five. He didn't run away, just stayed stationary with his hand up and it was an easy high-five. After the cheevo popped, me and my co-op friends again saved and quit, then continued on in multiplayer, all 15GS richer.

This achievement takes place when you first reach the Sanctuary. Claptrap will have a simple mission for you to complete which basically involves you turning around and finding a hidden locker. When you finish this mission you will have the option to click "Y" to give Claptrap a high five. When he raises his hand in the air immediately melee(punch) it to unlock the achievement.
