Go into the options and set the difficulty to One Star and set the damage to 8 stars. Fight your way to Onslaught with whoever you feel like, if you've already gotten the "Crossover Legend" achievement, just let Onslaught defeat you and select the characters you want to try with.
Onslaught is vulnerable to certain attacks and characters more than others, so if you have difficulty finding a solid team, you can rely on a very strong anchor to make things easier: With the damage set to 8 stars, choose Megaman.

Megaman's standing Heavy Punch is his Buster Shot, so you can simply play carefully and tap HP until Onslaught goes down, firing projectiles at him from anywhere on screen. It's very safe with Megaman, and any time Onslaught fires his 4 green orbs that grab you, you can call in your assist characters to absorb the hits, or simply Super Jump(quickly press Down, Up) to leap over them.
Once the first form goes down, you should be sitting on 2 3/4 worth of Hyper Meter for Onslaught's second form.

If you don't want to use Megaman or want to speed up the process by using different teams, choose a team that has one character that is SHORT in height and simply block Onslaught's attacks until he's got you in the corner or close to it. Once he starts firing his Proton Cannon(the big blue laser) or the Shockwave(orange fire columns) get right next to his feet and start hitting LP and MP to chip away at him with safe moves. He has quite a bit or recovery when he does these moves, so don't be afraid to walk up and crouch in between them when firing to close the gap. With the 8 stars Damage, 3 or 4 strings should kill him. Then it's on to form 2:

Onslaught Form 2:
For form 2, Megaman's Buster Cannon(QCF+PP) and Strider Hiryu's Legion(QCF+KK) Hyper Combos are the most consistent at hitting Onslaught while grounded. Ryu's jumping Shinkou Hadoken(QCF+PP) is okay, but you can get caught alot while jumping up. War Machine's Proton Cannon has the height to hit from the ground, but Onslaught can tag him during the Hyper Combo's startup frequently(and often does). Depending on how full the Hyper Combos hit, 2 should leave him around 25% health.

There are two situations you should look for when fighting Onslaught's second form. The first is the 4 Green Orbs. If you see them forming up on his body, activate your Hyper Combo. MegaMan's Buster Cannon or Hiryu's Legion will absorb the Orbs, as is the case with any character with a projectile Hyper Combo. If you aren't using a projectile character, call your assist in once they start moving towards you or super jump them, same as the first form.
The second is when Onslaught charges across the screen. He'll fly forward with his arm punch move from one side of the screen to the other, going off screen behind your character. Once he passes and comes back on screen, he'll be vulnerable for a few seconds when he stops. Perfect time for Hyper Combo, but if you're using Zangeif or Hulk or other nonprojectile characters, you can jump up and hit MP>HP a few times and land safely before the next volley begins. 3 or 4 series should end him!

I got the Capcom Unite, Marvel Unite and From the Shadows cheevos using this method, choosing Megaman and Strider as my anchor characters for Onslaught if I got into trouble. If I need to clarify anything or if u need character specific strats, ask in the comments and I'll try to help.

Beating Onslaught with your team counts as completing the arcade mode with both of those characters, so it doesn't matter who gets the final hit or anything.

Good Luck!
