I can confirm that you do not need to do all the races for each car.
If you go to driver details>single player progress, you can see that there are only 61 events to play, 10 of them being the most wanted races.

Here are all the events with the cars listed and the difficulty. Big thanks to Hirsute Dave for taking the time and making the list so that I didn't have to. To be clear, you just need to come in first in the event for one car. Example: Arch Enemies, you only need to come first in the Alfa Romeo 4C. I chose that one because it was easy.

Thanks to Segendary Ty for updates.

*Video added for those having trouble.
Alongside the video here are some tips I feel are important.
When I do these time trails I set up a couple of things that must happen.
    1. Avoid the cop at the beginning, if you slam into him, restart.
    2. Either brake and take those first two turns at a decent speed or drift through them if you can. If I crashed or grinned on the wall, I restarted.
    3. @45 seconds in the video. Slow down before the rhino block and take the turn at decent speed. If I crashed I restarted.
    4. @1:30 in the video. Slow down before you go into that dip on the freeway. If you don't you might fly and crash. More than likely results in a restart.

Now those are just my personal goals or whatever, but with those, the video, and lots of practice you should be able to nail this speed trap.

Fortunately, this achievement isn't nearly as bad as it might sound. You only have to finish first ONCE in each of the 61 unique events. There are a total of 51 events from the beginning of the game, and the Most Wanted races are the remaining 10 events.

Each car has access to 5 different events. Each new event will require you to drive to it's location to start it. You can jump directly to any event you've played previously. You can see a complete list of events you've found on the "Recommends" map. Any events you haven't won yet are indicated by a bright green square.

Here's a condensed chart of all the available events and which cars have access to them by ratchet:

12/18/12 UPDATE: The multiplayer update patched the glitch below. Any cars you've already done it on will still have the mods applied to them. You can just delete the update and still do the glitch.

Sometimes you'll have to replay some events, just to unlock mods to make medium/hard difficulty events doable. There's a way to avoid this by using the Mod Transfer Glitch. What this does is, it allows you to copy your mods from one car to another in singleplayer. Using this exploit, you can unlock all the Pro mods on a car ONCE, then copy them to ANY other car without having to unlock them again!

    1. Switch to a car you already have mods unlocked on, and equip all the mods you want to copy.

    2. Open the map and cycle to the RECOMMENDS map. Pick an event and select the car you want to copy the mods to.

    3. You now have all your pro mods on the car you chose, without having to unlock them on that car.

That's all there is to it. Now you can complete all 5 of that cars events with ease.

Keep in mind, these aren't permanent unlocks. If you switch mods on the car you copied to, you won't be able to re-equip it until you do the glitch again, or unlock it for real.

Just a quick but overlooked tip for completing the speed trap challenge Needle Point.
The Bugatti Veyron is the faster car and the gold requirement is 155mph, however if you use the Koenigsegg the gold requirement is 150mph! if you do the first 3 easy gold medals and equip the car with better mods this race becomes a whole lot easier.

Car choice is personal preference. To me the Veyron was to tight going round corners and drifting. The Agera was was easier to get the back end around and keep the speed up. On my final run i got 159 AND I CRASHED at the paint booth. Coming out of the second turn i was around 170 mph (instead of 140 grinding the wall). Don't give up! 159 left me dumbfounded, I thought there was no way.headspin
