Firstly, you must make sure you have everything upgraded. You'll mostly be using Element Shot in conjunction with your Rifle, as the fire effect will kill almost anything after it procs. To supplement this, the gatling gun is good for mopping up. It has no recoil and a large clip, meaning you can simply hose down enemies from short to medium range. The shotgun, while good for its knockback effect, does too little damage to be of use on Hell mode. The Cannon must be buffed with Element Shot for it to be effective and is used to picking off enemies from afar (generally the ones behind barricades) and enemy snipers. However, from stages 3 and onwards, it'll take 3 direct headshots to drop most enemies, even with the Element Shot buff applied, meaning if you miss you need to watch your magic meter as you rebuff yourself. You always want to be able to leave enough magic for you to reload your bigger guns, like the gatling gun. Contrary to what people seem to suggest, running through and casting Raven's Panic is not the strategy i used. I strongly suggest taking your time. Use fire bullets and be careful with your aiming. Don't be reckless, make your shots count, and you'll drop the enemies quickly while not running out of magic and leaving yourself vulnerable. Please note that it takes 5 to 10 consecutive hits with the fire bullets to light an enemy on fire, so you do need to be accurate.

    Bestiary and tips

    Regular Geist
    Threat: Minimal
    Priority: Minimal

These are the guys with regular M16 assault rifles. They fire slow, they move slow and they have little health. They'll be gone by stage 3. Don't expect them to pose much of a threat, but beware of being complacent. On hell, a good string of hits from even the lowliest grunt will kill you.

    Grenade Geist
    Threat: Moderate
    Priority: Low

Regular geists who use grenade launchers. Luckily the AI is unable to compensate for gravity, so just keep your distance and deal with the more immediate threats. The exception to this is Stage 3, where you're in a confined underground area. A grenade will kill you in a single hit, so make sure to prioritise them immediately.

    Quick Geist
    Threat: Minimal
    Priority: Minimal

These guys are the same as the regular troopers, except they run from point to point very quickly and take potshots at you. You can recognise these guys from their white helmets. If you're having trouble hitting them, either use the gatling gun or cast Raven's Panic.

    Muscled Geist
    Threat: Moderate
    Priority: Moderate

These guys are like the regular geists, except they have strong muscles as opposed to a weak stomach. They come in various flavours. Some use shotguns, some try to charge and melee you, and some act like regular geists. You will want to start using your fire bullets as much as you can to take these guys down.

    Suppression Geist
    Threat: Extreme
    Priority: High

You can tell these guys apart by noticing the gas masks they wear. They carry M60 heavy machine guns and can enter seemingly endless amounts of rounds into you before having to reload. On Hell, three or so good hits are enough to drop you, so you must absolutely focus on these geists when you see them. If a commander gives the order to focus fire, seek cover, or you're almost guaranteed to die. It takes 3 Light enhanced cannon shots to the head to kill them. Fire is necessary to kill these guys with minimal hassle. Please be aware that they do sometimes like to run diagonally to make it harder to hit them while they shoot at you, so Raven's Panic may be a good idea. Otherwise use Rose Spear and hope they're caught in the AoE, as it's an instant kill for any geist troop.

    Sniper Geist
    Threat: Extreme
    Priority: Extreme

It's vital you memorise where these guys appear and eliminate them ASAP. A single hit will kill you regardless of difficulty. Luckily, they give themselves away with the red laser sight and can be foiled via ancient wall. Use Light rounds and go for the head. If you see the laser start to darken, they're about to open fire, so seek cover immediately. It can be a good idea to have a few civilians or marines around, as the snipers sometimes go for them instead and leave you a small window to aim at them with the cannon.

    Commander Geist
    Threat: High
    Priority: Extreme

These squad leaders can give the command to focus fire on you. On Hell, you will likely not survive this assault even if you spam the dodge button, so find cover immediately or try to eliminate him with fire rounds before he can finish giving the order. Chances are that the commander and his squad will be bunched together, so it's a good place to use Rose Spear, especially if they're behind barricades as the spears go through cover. You can recognise these geists by their red berets.

    Armoured Attack Vehicle

    Threat: High
    Priority: High

These armoured vehicles are not likely to go down with a single lightning strike, so use your Cannon to soften them up a bit first. Luckily their main cannon is slow to turn, so you can easily sidestep the machine gun fire. Be careful of your dodging, as the missile will instantly kill you if you're caught in its blast. As the vehicle is immobile, suppression geists and commanders take priority if they are in the vicinity.

    Walnut Head
    Threat: High
    Priority: Moderate

These immobile floating brains will use telekinesis to throw cars and debris at you. While easy to dodge, it will kill you instantly if it lands. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. If you kill a Walnut Head and are below one of the objects it was about to throw at you, and it hits you, you'll die instantly. Due to collision detection this can occur even if you're not directly under it, so please keep your distance. They can go down very quickly with fire bullets, just like all forms of geists.

    Angry Spirit
    Threat: Extreme
    Priority: Low

Screamers spit out these floating heads. On Hell, two ghosts are generally enough to kill you outright. You can avoid their attack by hitting the dodge button right at the moment you see them about to land on top of you. This will also make the spirit disappear. They're hard to hit, so if you must kill them to regain magic the gatling gun is a good choice for its wide cone of fire, but be ready to dodge.

    Screamer
    Threat: Moderate
    Priority: High

These guys spit out angry spirits and are easily killed with fire bullets. It's important to kill them quickly to stem the tide of angry spirits. If you have no magic for fire bullets, the shotgun or gatling gun is effective up close.

    Worm Head
    Threat: Minimal
    Priority: Minimal

People who are posessed by angry spirits turn into these guys. They're extremely weak and easily dealt with the gatling gun. They luckily telegraph their attacks, so you can simply dodge out of the way when they attack with their ribs or flame breath. Focus on the more dangerous enemies before these guys.

    Giga Giant
    Threat: Extreme
    Priority: High

The best way to deal with giants is to use your flame bullets to light it on fire, then get as close as you can and whip out your gatling gun to shoot at its weak spot until it dies. When the fire effect wears off, quickly switch back to your rifle and shoot it a couple of times to set it on fire again. The fire effect won't do much damage in itself, but it will keep the giant in a stumbling animation while it tries to shake the flames off, leaving it unable to fight back.

    Boss Strategies

    Boss: Eyeball Serpent

At the start of the fight, cast lightning to do damage before any eyeballs even show up. The best thing i found to do is to dodge up and down the plane to avoid being hit by the eyeballs going directly for me and kill the ones drilling into the plane to regain my magic. Use your rifle for this, as you need the mobility and flexibility it provides. The plane has regnerating life, so don't worry too much if you see flames emerging. When the serpent goes to devour the whole plane, you should have enough magic to deal the final lightning strike and end it. If not, whip out your gatling gun and fire at its mouth to prevent this. Be careful of falling off the plane with excessive use of dodge, but try to keep mobile.

    Boss: Demonic Overlord

    This boss has three phases.

    Phase 1
Do nothing until the marines take the shield down, then cast lightning. After its second shield goes back up, try to shoot angry spirits to get your magic back up. If the shield goes down before you have enough magic for another lightning, don't worry; just take out your gatling and keep firing roughly in the direction of the three serpents and his head so you see white sparks. He should float up, and then it's just a matter of shooting at the snake heads until he flies away for the second phase.

    Phase 2:

Keep your distance and go for the snake heads. If he walks past you, shoot at his back, as this will still do damage to him and make the next phase a little bit easier. You will know you're doing damage to him if you see his snake heads wave upwardly in the air. Do not get boxed into a corner, and run past him if you find yourself needed immediate breathing space. It's important to be mindful of your dodging. If he stomps the ground, it'll create a shockwave effect and kill you, so you must dodge right before his foot hits the ground. Kill angry spirits when you have the opportunity, otherwise dodge them to the best of your ability - two or three spirits is all it takes to kill you. When Alicia's companion says "fry those blasted snakes!", you'll start to see their heads pop and end the second phase.

    Phase 3

You must shoot the back, but as the boss flies down the entire length of the arena, this is difficult. Don't bother trying to get behind him. Keep in front of him and cast lightning when you have enough magic. He will occasionally shoot out more angry spirits for you to recharge your meter, so just dodge the flame geysers and concentrate on casting lightning. After 4 or 5 lightning hits, he'll be extremely weak and Alicia's companion will say "Finish this behemoth!". You must do your best to stay in front of the boss and occasionally pepper him with bullets, causing him to throw more angry spirits at you. It's a race to recharge your magic and cast a final lightning bolt to end it. If you're too slow, you'll have to wear him down again before you can deliver the final blow.

    Things to remember

-Fire bullets work better than anything, but you must watch your magic guage. You need to kill at least two enemies to get back your investment.
-My golden rule for managing fire bullets was "if i have less than 20 rounds remaining, i'm rebuffing Element Shot".
-Don't rely on Light rounds with your cannon. It's expensive to maintain and it takes 3 of your 4 rounds to drop an enemy, and that's if you're able to get headshots.
-Patience is a virtue. There's no need to rush the level and get yourself killed. Take your time, make those shots count.
-Civilians and marines make good meat shields. It's worth using sacrifice to keep them alive, as it keeps the geists focused on shooting them as much as you, which is extremely useful when a few good shots is enough to drop you. If you see injured people, help them out, but don't put yourself in danger to do so.
-Do not bother to try and shoot down choppers with your cannon.
-Try not to use big spells like Tornado and Meteor. It's not worth the magic cost and you can end up killing yourself with the debris from the aftermath.
-Raven's Panic is good for getting you out of a tricky situation, but do not get compacent. It's not flawless and sometimes one or two geists will escape the spell's effect and catch you by surprise. It's better to use the spell defensively and seek cover to recompose yourself rather than offensively to try and jump in a barricade and wipe everyone out.
-Rose Spear is a lot more useful than people give it credit for. It's not expensive to use magic wise, it goes through cover, and it's an instant death for anyone caught in its effect.
-The chain fence at the end of stage 4 provides cover and enemies are unable to shoot through it. Bare this in mind when the choppers come, as you are able to manage the fight better if you keep one half of the enemies on the other side of the fence as you deal with the enemies on your side.
-Keep well away from falling debris and falling giants, as the game can read you as being crushed despite not having actually been hit.
-Use the dodge button often. It doesn't make you totally impervious, but it's very good for getting you out of sticky situations and behind cover.
-Avoid seeking cover from behind cars and trucks as they are liable to explode after enough shots.
-A good trick to skip the reloading animation is to hit X to reload then immediately dodge. The reload animation will cancel but your gun will still be reloaded. You will also sheathe your weapon after using dodge, enabling you to run properly. This is extremely useful in conjunction with the gatling gun, as you slow to a walk with it unsheathed. A good tactic to use is to use the gatling, reload then dodge, run to a new position, fire, reload, dodge run- rinse and repeat.
-If you can beat Chaos, you can beat Hell.

    Good luck!

Toombs2008Thanks for the tips, it helped a lot.
Hell was a little harder than Chaos, I think.
But it was playable under 3 hours.

I didn't fully upgrade, I forgot, and I totally paid the price for it. Good guide though.

Soulcraver gives some great tips for individual enemies, but I've seen many people recommend a slower play style for the harder difficulties, and since I managed to get 1000 on this game by running and gunning, I figured I'd go ahead and detail how I managed to get through it all. In a way, I suppose this is primarily for people who want decent scores during these play throughs, but there might be some stuff for your average player as well.

My rule of thumb for EVERY level is to spam the hell out of Ravens Panic, but you need to be mindful of the cooldown, as there's about a 5 second period toward the end of the spell where your ravens will still be out, but enemies can move around and shoot. You can combine this with Fire Bullets on your Assault Rifle to take guys out quickly, and you should be able to kill more than enough enemies to get your MP back.

Stage 1 is pretty easy, regardless of the difficulty level that you're playing on. On Chaos and Hell modes, the three guys at the beginning of the level can tear you to shreds in seconds, so you need to cast Ravens Panic as fast as possible. Go ahead and progress through the level normally, but be mindful of the guys on the porches of the houses, as you can sometimes miss these dudes initially. Casting Ravens Panic can help you pinpoint the location of enemies, as your swarm of birds will be a bit easier to spot. Your first Walnut Head (aka Brain Dude) can be taken out with a buffed Cannon (what I'm going to refer to as a Sniper Rifle), which I recommend doing. The other Walnut Heads that you'll encounter in this level should be taken out with fire bullets, as they're almost always around the corner of a building and you don't want to wait for these guys to pick up vehicles and debris. The only other tricky part of this stage is the bridge. You should hang back a bit at the top and peek over the edge because you don't really want to give the tanks an opportunity to shoot you. Once the infantry spot you or you get a couple shots off on them, they'll run toward you, which is a good way to lead them lower on the ramp and pick them off. When you get the majority of them, go ahead and run up and Lightning the tanks as fast as possible. There will be at least one guy directly behind you in the debris (usually), but there will always be a handful coming up the ramp as well. Pick the Brain Dude off with your Sniper Rifle and you're golden.

Stage 2 isn't too difficult, but it's long as hell. You need to be spamming Ravens Panic and using it to help you pinpoint enemies. It's early enough in the play through that you should be able to take out a handful of them before your spell runs out. Again, you can couple this with fire bullets if you need to. Take out Brain Dudes with your Sniper Rifle when you can and fire bullets when you can't. There is a Sniper on this level that you'll want to snipe as well. If you don't immediately run forward on this part, you can get a headshot off on him and kill 'im instantly. This is your first encounter with a giant, and you're going to want to hang back as far as you can but still maintain a decent distance enough to shoot with your Assault Rifle. You'll get the hang of this and eventually notice that these dudes have really weird pathing issues, and you'll be able to exploit this no problem.

On Stage 3, the Elemental Shotgun is your best friend. You'll want to take the guys on the stairs out with an Assault Rifle, and you'll probably find the dudes in the tunnel easier with this gun as well, but everyone else after this is almost always easier to take out with the Wind Blast, especially once you get to the Subway. When you get to the Airport, Ravens Panic and fire bullets are the best way to go, but be mindful of the Sniper. When you take most of the guys out in the middle, you can run at him and shoot him with your Assault Rifle. The closer you get, the more bullets he'll take, but even one of them will hang up his sniping animation. When you get aside and start clearing the way for the planes, take out the dudes in front of you, but hang back and snipe the guys on your left and right. If you don't move too far in either direction, you'll be able to get headshots on them without them coming for you. Then head to the right with fire bullets and take the Brain Dude out immediately. Same thing with the one on the left, and then in the middle. Boss strategy is the same one you use on lower difficulties, but you need to pay more attention to eyeballs coming at you, as they'll take you out a lot faster. Shoot them with an Assault Rifle when you need to, because it takes less MP to reload. The Chain Gun takes way too much MP and time, and can flub you up on your Lightning casts.

Stage 4 is pretty straightforward, and there's not a whole lot that's likely to get your goat, aside from the big ambush at the end. You CAN use Tornado here to help you out, but you need to run like hell in the opposite direction as soon as you cast it. Use Ravens Panic a lot, probably coupled with fire bullets, and just be patient during this part. Running around too much is likely to get you killed, and you only want to focus on individual pockets of enemies, instead of taking a bunch of guys out at one time. If, for some reason, the section with the railroad tracks does get you hung up, run from the Giant and start shooting the pockets of guys as you make progress through this part of the level. When you get toward the end of the railroad, hang back a bit and use the Giant "trick", which WILL work on this part. Then just go through it like you normally would, and be mindful of the explosives here. You can shoot them, but you want to make sure you have enough distance between you and the buildings. The explosions are big. Elemental Shotgun can help in the mine/tunnel.

Stage 5 is pretty tricky, but if you hang to the right as much as possible, you can avoid a lot of trouble. When you get to the tanks, you can avoid all of them except the one blocking your path to the forest, which you will need to use Lightning on. To avoid tanks, you need to spam Dodge and just keep moving in the direction you need to go. Cast Ravens Panic as soon as you see dudes so you can take 'em out, and spam it when you're avoiding the tanks, because there will be some dudes running around near them that you'll need to impede. Definitely use the Elemental Shotgun in the forest, and Dodge your way toward the Screamers (what I always called Spirit Spitters) and take them out as soon as possible. It's foggy, but you should be able to pinpoint their origins fairly easily. Don't worry too much about the infected dudes, but you can use your Shotgun's Wind Blasts to slow them down on your way to the Screamers. Once you take 'em out, focus on the infected dudes, and then you can either exploit the giant or just run around him. You can cast Tornado at the blockades, Ravens Panic and then hang back to shoot them, or even use the Elemental Shotgun to push forward, do whatever you think is easiest/safest.

Stage 6 is pretty much a repeat of Stage 2, but is a LOT tougher. The guys here take a lot more bullets to kill, so you'll probably want to be using the Ravens Panic/fire bullets combo as much as possible, but if you play your cards right, you won't have to all that much. There's a Sniper in the same place as Stage 2, and the same tactic works on him as well, though you need to shoot his face a couple more times. There are a few Snipers around the corner at one point, but because they're around the corner, you'll be able to easily ambush them. Don't even bother with the Sniper at the Yellow Brain Dude, because you should Snipe this Walnut Head to begin with. The ones you can't Snipe, shoot as fast as you can with fire bullets. For the ones that have dudes around them, use Ravens Panic to hold them up and take the Brain Dude ASAP, then you can hang back and take the infantry out. When you get to the tanks, use Meteor to take them out by casting it around a corner, but maintaining your cursor in the direction of the tank. Run away as soon as the casting animation stops and don't stop running until the buildings are done collapsing. Don't run forward until the meteors stop falling. There's only two tanks that you NEED to take out, as the last two you can actually Dodge past to trigger the cut scene that leads to the boss. Don't worry too much about losing your MP either, as there's plenty of guys to build it back up before the second tank. Just be mindful of the infantry in this area. The Giants in this level are plated and can take a long time to kill, and the very last one you have to take down is likely to shoot you, but if you hide behind the tank debris, you can usually get him to hang up like all the other Giants (this one, for whatever reason, has less issues with his pathing). Just use your Chain Gun on the boss, pretty much never stop shooting. When you get past the part with his shield, you can electrify your shots for extra damage (this isn't really necessary during the shield sequence). His weak spot is his back, so whenever he gets too close for comfort, just stop shooting and Dodge behind him a good distance and then you can resume your onslaught. The ghosts are taken out very easily with the Chain Gun as well, but try not to waste Elemental Shots on them if you can. Just make sure to Dodge his fireballs and whenever he has his hands up, shoot cars whenever you see them. You don't want them blowing up unexpectedly on you and ruining your progress. It only takes one Lightning strike to finish the fight when he starts slogging around, and it'll register as a hit even if he's moving around after you cast it (the important thing here is just initiating the spell animation).

This is fairly vague, I'm sure, but you should have AT LEAST 3 play throughs under your belt by this point, so enemy locations and the best paths through levels should already be worked out. Like I said, I never found a reason to change my tactics up too much during my last two play throughs, and I certainly didn't spend ten minutes shooting at tanks. The big thing here is your Ravens Panic and slowing down the way you play the level just a tad bit. I think I clocked a 26-minute finish on the last level this way, and I only died a handful of times. I never scored less than a B on any level regardless of difficulty.

Some tips that weren't mentioned above:

-You can cast Elemental Shot on a gun and then switch weapons to retain it. There's no time limit this way, and you'll have it reserved for the situations that you need it. The only thing to note is that cutscenes will reset this, but you can have 3 of your 4 guns charged at any time and even fill your MP back up in the mean time.

-Clicking Right-Stick and entering "Aiming Mode" will pull your gun out, as well as zooming in the camera and increasing your accuracy. This is extremely important for when you know there are going to be enemies around the corner, but Alicia has already stashed her gun away because you haven't used it in a while. People tend to just pull the Right-Trigger when they see enemies, but on the higher difficulties the delay in time between trigger pull and your first shot fired can be the difference between life and death. Preparation is key, I suppose.

-When your Shotgun is charged with Elemental Shot, you can cause enemies to stumble and even move debris at surprisingly long distances. This is beneficial for two reasons: Spamming your 16 shots gives you ample time to close the distance and take out enemies, and debris can actually be moved through walls, given that it's still within range of your shots. This is why I recommend the Shotgun most on Stage 3.

-The higher rank/Priority an enemy is, the more MP you'll receive upon killing them. This means that on the later Stages, you'll usually be able to cast more spells in a row than you think, provided you manage to nab a kill or two in the process. On Stage 6 especially, one infantry can usually give you enough mana for a Ravens Panic-Elemental Shot combo.

-The weak spot on the boss is actually his back. The game tends to skip the bit of dialogue that lets you know this. He's greatly susceptible to the Elemental Shot of your Chain Gun, as are his Snakes. Regardless of what weapon you use or what body part you're aiming at, electricity will arc from his body whenever you deal damage to him.

-Don't forget that you have instant cover at your disposal, thanks to your Ancient Wall spell. You can either hide behind it and wait for your mana to regen, or you can cast it and immediately start Dodging in the opposite direction if you know you're going to die. The latter method isn't always going to save you, but it can, and that's important.

That's about all I can think of that hasn't been mentioned in the other two guides, so good luck to anyone who doesn't have this one yet. Always remember though, don't adhere to a guide 100% if you find something that's not working for you. The beauty of video games is that they almost always allow you to experiment and develop your own technique for things, and Bullet Witch isn't an exception to this.

    Cheers!

    - Memorize the level while on easy. The game is quite easy to memorize and is generally just follow the yellow brick "long" road. Always follow the long roads if you see enemies and tight spot with a barrier behind them just evade towards along the longer roads.

    - Only kill necessary enemies. When you are in open areas don't even bother, just use your Ravens panic and focus on the enemies while dodging your way forward.

    - Dodging. The Dodging is easily exploited! The biggest tip I can give is to look at the enemies while dodging. if you push the analog stick to the right or the left you will do a smooth side flip, use this more than the rough front and back flip as it is faster and they will hardy ever get a bullet on you if you are looking at them. Remember eyes on the enemy.

    - Use Ravens Panic all the time. If you are getting hammered quickly click Lb twice and click x, when you summon the ravens you cannot be penetrated while the action is being performed. When there are hoards of enemy use Ravens panic and just focus on the enemies who haven't been affected and evade their bullets. You can also jump at the Ravened enemies to sponge bullets from the unravened enemies.

    - Use elemental shot, this increases the damage tremendously especially on the Default machine gun. Use the machine guns elemental shock to burn the brains that unblock barriers when killed, as soon as they burn evade to the barrier that the brain has control of, it will explode by the time you get to the barriers. I used the Gatling gun throughout my whole hell play-through as it suppresses all foot mobiles and prevents you from taking bullets, it also has very good accuracy and is the easiest gun to control. I always used the machine gun with elemental shock to burn the brains although. The Gatling gun also suppresses multiple enemies with the it's lighting elemental shot.

    - Last Boss

At the start of the battle go right behind him in the corner, none of his attacks can get you, just the ghost heads. Shoot him with the Gatling gun using elemental shot and normal bullets until he opens the barrier and floats down the street. Now you just want to hold LT to evade throughout the whole fight, you can't get hit at all, probably a 1 in 500 chance he will hit you. Now just keeping going up close and behind him and dodging his stamps and fire following him down the street using LT until you are up close again while shooting his ghost heads with the Gatling gun. Then just shoot his snake arms until they are destroyed then carry on shooting his back, make sure to save magic and when your mentor says "Finish this behemoth" Strike him with lightning straight away and BAM!, easy peasy lemon squeezy that demon was easy. If he doesn't die just wait until he is limping or staying still and not attacking and strike. I killed him in 15 minutes on hell. Never risk lighting striking him while he is attacking, you will die instantaneously.

With these tips you should have it within 3 hours or less. I did Hell mode in 1 hour 30 minutes.
