This can potentially be a long grind before the Achievement is unlocked. When your My Player character starts the mode, he is placed at the AA level midway through the summer. You will be presented with a number of conditions that must be met before you are promoted from AA, and you have approximately half a season to do so.

These conditions will include a number of vital statistics which are important to your chosen position. You must earn sufficient experience points to raise these stats (such as Contact/Power vs. LHP/RHP, speed, catching, fielding range, bunting, etc.) You earn experience in three categories, which limits to which vital stats those points may be applied. Batting points are earned through hits, walks, RBIs, extra-base hits, drawing walks, etc. Fielding points are earned through put outs, assists, double plays, diving catches, etc. Finally, baserunning points are earned through advancing, stealing bases, hit and run, tagging up, and scoring runs.

In addition to these vital statistic requirements, you will be presented with a list of performance requirements. These may include reaching a certain number of home runs, sacrifice bunts, stolen bases, struck-out batters, batting average, etc. They will also include a minimum number of games played - in my first baseman's case it was 20, and I assume that it likely holds true for all players.

Once you reach the required level in all of these requirements, you will be promoted to AAA, and you will again be presented with an additional list of requirements. Your vital stats will probably stay the same, but you will have to reach all the performance stats again. Then, once you get promoted to MLB you will have to have an outstanding day at the plate in order to earn Player of the Game honours. Basically keep doing what you've been doing and it will come with time. It can be frustrating when you go 3-4 at the plate and stop just a double shy of the cycle, only to have Player of the Game go to your starting pitcher, who hurled a complete game shutout. But stick with it and as your stats improve, you'll get it sooner or later. I suggest dumping batting points (if you're not a pitcher) into Power and Eye. This will lead to more home runs (and RBIs) and the Eye stat will keep you from swinging at as many bad pitches.

Caution - if you don't make AAA before the end of your first season, you will have to start all your AA performance goals over again - including your 20 games played. I recommend playing the Spring Training games in between seasons. You won't earn any progress toward your performance goals, but you will earn valuable XP that can be used to add a significant boost to your vital stats.

On a personal note, this Achievement took me 198 games played before I was able to unlock it. Hopefully it will take you fewer, especially if you reach AAA before the end of your first season and don't have to repeat AA. Good luck!
