Keep completing challenges and earning stars until you reach level 10. Most of the challenges are self explanatory, but I will go through a few of the trickier ones below. You will have to complete all challenges and they are always the same. At one point, I tried to "clear challenges" under options in the hope to get different challenges, but do not do this. It wiped out my level progress and gave me the same challenges when I restarted.

The most difficult challenges will probably be those that involve a "slow ball" or "overarm ball".

Slow Ball:
You need to throw the ball very slow for this to count. Move your arm back and forward very slowly, while taking a small step forward as you move your arm forward. Once you figure out how to throw it slow enough, one of the challenges expects you to get a strike this way. I haven't found a consistent way to do this other than try to hit the head pin and hope for the best. There is an example of a slow ball strike in the video below to show you about how fast the ball needs to be going. Once you finally complete that challenge, you will be happy to know there is a later challenge to get a total of 4 slow ball strikes, which I am still currently working on.

Overarm Ball:
The hardest part for these is getting the Kinect to track your movement correctly. The best way I found to get this is hold your hand as if you are holding a shot put, at about shoulder height. Move your hand back, keeping it at same height, which will probably require you to turn your shoulder back a bit. Then push your hand straight forward while taking step forward, as if you were throwing shot put. The idea is that you need to make the motion while keeping your bowling ball in view on the screen. If you try to do a normal overhand throw, your hand will go too high, and the sensor will lose tracking of the ball, and you won't throw it or it will go flying off to the side. I even crouched down a bit to help keep the ball in view, or kneel as suggested by CognitiveCaveat.

You will know you got an overarm throw because the announcer will usually make a comment such as "that's a new/interesting way to throw ball" or "this isn't baseball". The ball will also make a dent in the lane when it lands.

I included an "overarm strike" in the video below, which isn't too hard once you get motion down.

Fast Ball:
These are very easy and you will most likely always be throwing a fast ball with your normal throwing motion.

Throw outside your lane:
Just angle yourself at about 45 degrees towards one of the other lanes and chuck your ball as hard as you can. I also got a lot of these while failing to do an overarm throw using a normal pitching motion. An example is included in video below.

Pick up front pin:
Does not have to be with your first ball, just as long as you clear the front pin by the end of the frame.

Most of the others are for getting points, strikes, and spares. Will have to come up with your own way to get strikes consistently. I used a pretty big curve ball by swiping my arm across my body, but others may have more consistency with a straighter ball.
