How to unlock the Group Hug achievement

There are a total of six campaign missions you must complete from start to finish on any difficulty with another player. You can complete this split-screen with a friend or a second controller if you do not have an active internet connection.

The missions do not have to be in order, you just have to load the mission from the start and play through to the end. If a player gets disconnected you will have to restart the mission from the beginning.

It also does not matter if you switch characters, switching characters is a pretty fun part of the game and can definitely help you out.

Also in case any one was wondering system link is not supported.

Not quite accurate: I got Buddy System after joining three players in a game, had two leave, and one joining back in again.

Also: It looks like the game tracks progress, invisibly, by the checkpoints. If you join into a level shortly after the start, it'll count the first, second and third checkpoints as having been completed in Co-Op. Once you finish, the game won't give you credit for having completed the level in Co-Op until you go back in and complete the level from the start to the first checkpoint.

I had previously "completed" the second level after joining into a game in progress but did not get credit for it. When playing through it again, it was the last level I needed for Group Hug, right after the first checkpoint my Achievement popped.
