The best way to rack up xp is to game the game.

First off, how does one earn xp?
1) Blocking!!!!
2) Blocking!!!!
3) Get the hint?
4) Melee attacks
5) Range attacks
6) Power Moves
7) Interactions with environment
8) Final Moves

Now, how does one rack up xp? The easiest way is to wail on an opponent till they die. Mashing (X), (Y), (B), (LB) or (RB) will earn xp each time the attack connects with the AI. The solution is to let the AI do the work for you.

I used Slattern (DLC) maxed out to play these mission. He has an evaluation of 8593. The armor value is 325, HPs are 7850. I literally didn't take my finger off of the (A) button until roughly 30-45 seconds left in the match. Then I used Slattern's overpowered attacks 3-4 times until the Kaiju or Jaeger is dead.

I used a similar strategy for the rest of the missions. Milk the xp via guarding attacks, and dodging when possible (when using a Jaeger, normally a Titan).

There are other ways of milking xp. Charging attacks yields greater damage, but less xp over the course of the match. If you receive 17 xp for a charge attack and only 7 xp for a normal (X) button attack, then why not charge? The regular attacks yield stackable xp, ie

7 + 7+ 14+ 18 + 27 + 35 =108 xp

Doing 5 charge attacks at 17 xp/ attack = 85 xp, but does double the total damage!

Therefore, for the same damage, you will actually receive 216 xp! Now these numbers themselves do change based upon your Jaeger or Kaiju. The basic premise holds though.

An added bonus for xp, try to do a (B) attack or a charged (X) or (Y) attack on your enemy near a interactive environmental object to gain a bonus xp of 20 - 45 xp. These would be the icebergs in Alaska, the Nimitz supercarriers on the water levels or the lava flues on the Pacific Rim map.

I didn't use Slattern to beat any of the missions, just to earn the medals. If you do not wish to spend the cash on the DLC characters, use a Kaiju that is maxed out. They have way better stats than Jaegers. I had 11/12 missions gold medaled with my maxed out Titan w/ lvl 2 parts. Slattern made it super easy to earn a gold medal on "The Breach".
