The other solution is correct in the methodology for the achievement, but here are some additional items to consider when going for this achievement.

-Upgrade your car: As you go through the cups, the opponents car will begin to get tougher to beat with the base models. Utilizing the upgrades will be more important

-Use cars with higher Nitro Efficiency: It makes a huge difference in the long run having a car with high efficiency. The extra seconds that the nitro lasts will make it possible to boost through the competition (in class 1, the Delorean was far and away the best even though it had a very slow acceleration statistic)

-Using Boosts: Depending on the event, something other than extra REP will be a good choice. I found that for Old School Arcade, the adrenaline freezing time was a good help and for the Paint Job that the item pickup freezing time was good if I was having difficulty. For the actual races or elimination, collisions adding nitro can help. In general, anything that can give extra nitro in a race will help.

-Races: The shortcuts are not always faster. In some cases, the shortcuts lack any nitro pickups and by the end you might not be able to maintain the higher speeds of your opponents. Consider using them only if you can gain or keep up your Nitro Gauge. Drift to maintain the nitro gauge. This is more obvious, but you need a lot of nitro to even have a shot at winning.

-If you're having difficulty, considering trying to complete some goals to get extra stars, a small upgrade here or there could really make a difference especially towards the end. Also, if some cups are causing difficulty, try moving to a different one and collect stars from there and then return when you have a better car or better upgrades.
