How to unlock the Ark-Rival achievement

  • I Spiritus II Spiritus I
    11 Dec 2013 11 Dec 2013
You can get this achievement by calling down a minor arkfall and killing the "boss". One or two of these guys might spawn.

In order to get the achievement you MUST land the final blow. I found that the best way to do that is to fire a detonator clip at the him and wait until his health has nearly depleted. Detonate it and you should land the final blow nailing you the achievement.

Fire Hawk DJust got this. Something that helped me get this quickly is that there are three things that makes the Huntmaster spawn. If your arkfall fails any of these, don't bother.

    1) It needs to be a minor Arkfall impact.

    2) Call It down. The first two waves of enemies don't matter. They'll be Dark Matter, 99ers, or mutants. Not important. What is important is the third wave. If it's the Grid, don't bother. If it's the Volge, continue inside.

    3) From my observations, there are three "configurations" to the inside of the Arkfall. There will be these crates or cubes stacked up around the room. Two of these setups have those crates/cubes stacked in such a way that they block the center of the arena. If those are there, a Huntmaster isn't gonna spawn. Might as well just leave. But, if your arena/room has a circular pattern imbedded in the floor and a straight, clear path down the center of the room length-wise, then four total Huntmasters will spawn (one alone and then three together).

I've tested this a few times and it checks out. Happy hunting!

VRETENAR 906Yeah the Huntmaster has been fixed. Before it wouldn't spawn at all.

InquisitorZacStill works. Took 20 Minor Arkfalls to finally get. And there were 3-4 that spawned in the waves.

Fire Hawk D is right. There seems to be 3 configurations of random encounters. A+. I thought I was doing something wrong until I read that comment.

UPDATE: As of 7/5/2017, there is an event going on and there seem to be Volge Huntmasters at most, if not all minor arkfall impact sites. The event won't last forever and who knows what will happen after that, so hurry up and nab this achievement before it's gone forever. I will update this once it becomes unavailable again. Hurry up and good luck to all.

As of 9/5/2016, I believe the chances of actually finding a Minor Arkfall Impact with the Volge Huntmaster inside is below 1%. I have called down numerous minor arkfalls hoping to finally get the Volge, but it has always been the Grid.

There is still a slight chance of possibly spawning one of these (very slight chance) but then landing the killing blow on him just makes your chances even that more unlikely. I am uncertain if it has been removed from the game or not.

You can try having a group of high EGO players bring up the Threat Level to 10 and then dropping down an ark spike, but you still probably will only get the Grid to spawn. Even if that is the case, only 1 of you will get the achievement as you need to land the killing blow on it. You also have to worry about randoms stealing the kill from you.

If you still want to try this, here are some things to know. You will need 1 ark spike which you get from the daily and weekly rewards, or you can purchase one from most vendors for 10,000 Scrip. Once you have an ark spike, search on your map for a small red circle (kind of looks like a regular arkfall site). It will either be a Minor Arkfall Impact or a Major Arkfall Impact. You are looking for Minor arkfall impacts. Head to one of these by setting a marker over the impact site. You should see 1 blue ring. (If it's 4 then it's a Major Arkfall site and you will not get the Huntmaster). Walk up to the blue ring and Hold X to drop down your 1 ark spike.

If there is already enemies around and a large structure in the ground, it means someone else called it down first. What you want to do either way is kill all the enemies. Once you kill all the enemies, you will see 4 blue rings surrounding the large structure. Walk inside one of these rings and Hold X to enter the structure. You must now fight off a lot of enemies. If you're lucky the Huntmaster will be inside. Read the other solutions for how to get the kill shot on him, if you are worried you won't kill it. If you are able to get the kill shot, the achievement will unlock either right away or once you get the results screen for finishing the arkfall.

How to know if it is not the Huntmaster: Firstly, I have noticed that mutants spawn almost every time and then the Grid. If the Grid show up, you know that it will not be the Huntmaster so don't bother entering the structure. If it is anything other than mutants spawning first, I would enter just to be safe (even if you get more grid). I have only seen Mutants and Grid, so anything different don't risk the chance of missing out.

So in short, call down the arkfall. If it's Mutants/Grid, just leave because it's not worth the wasted time. If you get any other enemies (especially Volge), enter the structure and hope it's the Huntmaster. Good luck to everyone who is attempting this and hopefully they will bring it back if they actually did remove it. Or at least increase the chances of it to spawn.

I added a video below on what a successful Huntmaster Minor Arkfall should look like and what the Huntmaster looks like.

CodeMonkeysGuyWell, certainly had taken long enough. I'm gonna power through the game, I think... don't want to take any more chances than I have simply by starting it. Bad enough Halo: Reach has a broken achievement cry

CodeMonkeysGuyUnrelated aside much later, but have you noticed virtually none of the winners in the past few months actually show up in the "Recent Winners" on the right? What's up with that? And some of the ones that were there disappear after a time. But it's not consistent, like you have one from June still there, some from July, and some from August. But if you actually check the full list of winners, you can find everyone. That's not manual removal by mods, is it?

VRETENAR 906Yeah, I'm not too sure either. Strange.

The key to this achievement is being able to land the killing blow (obviously), so I thought I'd post my setup that allows me to do very high dps and fire rapidly to land said killing blow. You could always try to use a detonator and stick four charges to the huntmaster and blow them when he's at a sliver of health, but if you estimate his remaining health wrong or it drops faster than you can detonate, you're screwed.

With this setup I ended up getting the killing blow on 4 Huntmasters in a row tonight without even really trying.

    Ego ability: Overcharge

Perks: Thick Skinned, Quick Charge, Pumped Up, Single Minded, Killing Machine, Fortitude, Insult to Injury, Blast Shield, and Overload

Weapon: VBI TACC Assault Rifle with at least level 2 magazine capacity mod (x1.40), stock and barrel mods for bloom reduction and aim/hip dmg increase

    Spike/stim: Damage Spike, Power Stim

You could replace Thick Skinned, Fortitude, and Blast Shield for 3 more offensive perks like the one for increasing damage while crouching, but this is my everyday setup so I just run with it.

With this I'm almost constantly in overcharge, with just a few seconds of down time between uses. I'm doing over 1100dmg per bullet on the Huntmaster if I get critical hits, and I fire and reload extremely fast. When he starts to get around 10-20%, hold off on popping your overcharge until he's below 5% so you can go to town. You'll get the kill shot almost guaranteed within 3 or 4 attempts tops using this.

My other advice is to play late at night so there are only 3 or 4 people in your Minor Arkfall (including you).

My last Minor Arkfall we got 3 Huntmasters and I got the kill shot on all 3. Damage breakdown of that run:

    Me: 21 kills, 910,000 damage
    2nd place: 12 kills, 650,000 damage
    3rd place: 7 kills, 554,000 damage
    4th place: 10 kills, 426,000 damage
