This actually isn't so bad, considering it's a 1-person game.
As you progress through the campaign, you get faster planes. By the time I'd beaten the 4th mission, I had access to the RFS69. You just need a fast plane.
I played Deep Freeze. I set my wingmen to engage so they'd leave me alone, and I cranked up my throttle and veered left through the canyon and all the way around to the flag, then turned around and did the same. The enemy planes will likely not match yours, and all you need is the speed.
You can obviously pick a different plane or map (Factory is a VERY small map), but I was having issues with some of the maps since I kept running into the entire enemy group. I liked Deep Freeze since I could wind my way back around the outside.
