The "Critters" are the little gray bug-looking creatures that inflate like a balloon when you get too close to them. After they inflate they pop excreting a poisonous, green gas. What you need to do is get close enough so the creature begins to inflate, but run away to a safe distance before they explode. If you do this 5 times, the Achievement will pop.
