Welcome to Airmech Arena. Of course, if you're going for this achievement, chances are you've been playing this game for a while now. That, or you're just prone toward forward thinking. King of the Mountain is a bit of a daunting task, but persistence pays off. At least, that's what people say.

You'll earn progress toward this achievement by playing matches, either online or off, win or lose. I must note that as of 10/29/2014, there is no way to check your progress toward the next level. This may change in the future, as Airmech on PC offers a progress bar. It doesn't offer any numeric values, like saying you have x amount of experience and need y amount to reach level-up. That might also change in the future, but as of now, we've no such luck.

If you want to unlock this achievement faster, there are two several ways to make it a little quicker. The first is coughing up some money and getting Airmech Prime membership, available for $19.99 in the shop. This option gives you gold VIP status and a 50% bonus to both experience and kudos (the in-game currency), and it also unlocks all current and future airmech types and units. Note that it does not unlock any of the extra skins, although it does allow you to use your otherwise locked diamonds, and your gold status only lasts for 30 days.

A slight variation on this is buying one of the diamond packs, also available from the shop menu. These range anywhere from $5 to $100, but for this you only need the $5 one. It gives you 900 diamonds, also unlocks your existing stockpile of diamonds, and more importantly, gives you a permanent 10% bonus to experience and kudos.

Another way is through your pilots. If you don't have any diamonds, you can unlock Makoto and use him as your pilot by beating him a certain number of times, either when he's controlled by a bot or by another player. If you have diamonds on-hand, you can also purchase Ultimate Erik. The reason you might want to use Makoto/Ultimate Erik is they both offer an increase of 5% experience. Of course, given that you usually average around 90-150 experience per battle, it doesn't increase it by a lot. Makoto gives no in-match benefits and actually lowers the maximum amount of in-match currency you can have. U-Erik, on the other hand, gives you a 125% increase to in-game experience, as well as the 5% to player experience. In either case, one way of thinking is that the 5% each of them offers will add up in the long run.

Yet another option is to purchase XP boost cubes from the shop. These come in 1-day, 3-day, 1-week, and 30-day increments, and while active will give you a 50% boost to experience, much like gold VIP status. Note that it does not stack with the gold VIP bonus, but it does extend it past the 30-day limit from Prime Membership. Buying multiple boost cubes, as they're called, will add to your existing time limit. The 1- and 3-day cubes cost 75 and 150 diamonds, respectively, which is doable even without the stockpile Carbon Games is holding hostage.

A good way to get diamonds without paying for them is to sell some of the item drops in the Player's Market. Without gold or silver VIP status, you'll only get 30% of the final sales price, but selling the crates that sometimes drop from battle is a fairly reliable way to slowly get up to 75/150 diamonds.

The final way depends a lot more on luck than the previous options. If you party with someone who is either a gold VIP or has a boost cube active, they will give their other teammates a 10% XP boost. This is the one method that stacks with boost cubes/VIP status. In a perfect situation, you can combine boost cubes/status (50%), your pilot (5%), and your teammates' status/cubes (10% if one teammate has it, 20% if both do) to get a very large bonus (up to 75%). Unfortunately, this isn't going to happen naturally, or at least not very often, but a gamer can dream, right?

Now for the tedious part. In order to get experience, you have to play matches. Win or lose, you'll get experience either way. Winning obviously gets you more, and losing earns you a lot less. The longer the game runs, the more experience you'll get, but it's faster to do more short games than it is to do fewer long games. For instance, winning a 3v3 game against bots in 5 minutes will net you between 100 and 150 experience. Winning a game that takes 25 minutes will net you between 300 and 350 experience. So taking five times as long only gets you three times as much.

Another difference in experience is whether you play against bots or other people and also if you're playing solo or multiplayer. If you're going solo against a computer, you'll be earning 50-75 experience in a five-minute game. This is true whether you have AI as your allies, if you're going 1v2 or 1v3. If you decide to do your matches in single-player, know that it doesn't matter what set up you have. Since that's the case, just make sure you have an equal number of "players" on both sides.

If you go multiplayer against bots, you'll get twice as much as going solo, i.e. 100-150 experience in a five-minute match. This is the same regardless of whether it's 2v2 or 3v3. Overall, it's better to go against computers, 3v3. Even with randoms, people generally know what they're doing. A lot of the time you'll find someone who paid money and has ultimate units, making games go even faster and potentially giving you one of those bonuses I mentioned earlier.

And that's really all there is to it. This achievement is tedious largely because you have no way to check your progress toward the next level. VIP status, boost cubes, and your pilot help speed up the process, though the first two costs money and the latter option doesn't help you all that much. Ultimately, just choose whichever mech and pilot you find best and stomp the computer as hard and as fast as you can. Even without VIP and cubes, it doesn't take so long that it's unbearable.

An additional note I forgot to mention is that it sometimes the game doesn't record your level accurately. What I mean is, sometimes you'll log off at one level, and the next time you log on you'll be one level higher. I have no idea why this happens or if there's any way to tell when it's happening, but don't be surprised if you log into the game one day and you're a level higher than you remember being.

Edit 1: Using Makoto on and off, I reached level 26 at 270 online wins.
Edit 2: As above, I reached level 27 at 301 online wins, 26 offline wins.
Edit 3: I reached level 28 at 333 online wins, 34 offline wins.
Edit 4: Level 29 at 377 online wins, 35 offline wins. I've stopped using Makoto at this point.
Edit 5: I reached level 30 at 415 online wins, 36 offline wins, and the achievement popped after I won my 416th game. I bought silver VIP using Bing points, so I had a 10% bonus to XP. If you decide not to purchase silver status, it will probably take you a few games more than it took me. Not many more games, though.
Edit 6: After a few tests, I've determined that you do not gain any additional experience for beating/losing to other players. You get just as much experience beating computers as you do beating actual people.
