These tanks can be found in the USA Tech tree leading to the Tier X Patton. You need to have the 3 tanks in your garage at one time.

You will have to work your way up this tree ( i already researched all the components of this tree so I am unable to give specific amounts of xp needed for every tank)
YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE ANY OF THE TANKS before the M4 to unlock or purchase the M4 so do not waste silver on previous tanks or the modules which do not lead to the M4. I do suggest buying the tank and using it to gain xp to buy all the packages for the next tank, unless you have gold xp which you can use to bypass the grind.

Also pay attention to the tech tree, if a module does not lead to the next tank, you do not need to buy it to unlock the next tank, you will waste silver and xp.

Tier I:T1 Cunningham 0xp and 0 silver needed.

Tier II:T2 Medium, only needs xp and silver(3500) from the previous tank to research the T2 medium.

Tier III: M2 Medium, needs 3 packages: ??XP + 2200+3550+12550 silver) and ??xp +31000 silver from the previous tank to research the M2 Medium.

Tier IV: M3 Lee. needs 2 of the 3 modules to unlock the M3 Lee.

Tier V: M4 Sherman, needs 1 package (??xp+34650silver) and ??xp+25306silver from the previous tank to research the M3 Lee. this tree branches off to the Heavy tank line so you do not need one of the modules.

Once you are on the M4 Sherman, the real grind begins.
You will need to unlock the first modules (??xp+11000silver) and your choice of the two guns, either the 76mm or the 105mm, depending on your playstyle. The 76mm is more of a sniper style gun and the 105 is the 'derp' gun. Either one you choose will be able to unlock the M4A3E8 Sherman Jumbo or the M4A3E2.

Once you have ??xp on the M4 Sherman + 975,000 silver you can unlock the M4A3E2 Sherman Jumbo.

Once you have ??xp on the M4 Sherman + 930,500 silver you can unlock the M4A3E8 Sherman .

I will try and get the specific amounts of xp needed per module and tank once i create another account.

Cut and Pasted the following information about the M4 Sherman from http://www.worldoftanksguide.com/cgi-bin/tank_analyzer.cgi
Since this tank will be a pain in the butt to grind for both the E2 & E8, you might as well know the pros & cons of the tank.

Pros
-Jack of all trades
-Tough turret front, reinforced by a wide mantlet
-Impressive gun depression
-Good selection of guns. The 75mm combines a fast rate of fire with good penetration and decent accuracy. The 105mm howitzer has low penetration but can easily do 200500 damage upon penetration (with regular ammunition). Even if it rolls 150 damage, it usually does some critical damage.
-M1A1 has incredible gun penetration for its tier; enough to penetrate most tier 6 tanks.
-Good view range (20 m more than Pz IV or T49) allows you to spot enemy first and earn assist points
-Good credit making ability combined with dirt cheap ammo and repair costs make this a very profitable tank to run frequently. It is recommended that players use this tank (or any preferred tier 5 medium) a lot if they plan on playing up to higher tiers without a tier 8 premium, or premium account.

Cons
-Jack of all trades, has no real strength other than good performance in hulldown position
-Poor armor, besides the turret
-Low accuracy and longer reload with the 105mm
-Acceleration isn't the best
-Tall silhouette

The M4 Sherman is considered a very well rounded tank like the T-34 or PzKpfw IV. Its hull armor is a bit lacking and will most likely be penetrated by other tanks of its tier. Its speed and maneuverability are about average. Overall this tank is the Jack of All Trades of tier 5 along with the T-34, and offers great guns for its tier. Due to its great gun depression it can fight on hills and use terrain features much more effectively than its counterparts, which is a compensation for its weak armor. By only exposing its strong frontal turret it can consistently damage enemies while bouncing shots itself.

Depending on the weapon loaded, the tank may need to change tactics to match. The stock 75mm is accurate (although somewhat less so than its German and Soviet counterparts), and able to shred lower-tier tanks, especially light tanks. Both of the Sherman's gun upgrades are effective. The most popular option,105mm M4, which can destroy lower tier tanks in one hit, but also do incredible damage to heavier tanks. Although 105 mm M4 is a close range howitzer that only uses HE and HEAT ammunition, it does really high damage as it has 53mm of penetration. However, you do need to get close and it has a comparatively long reload time. Still, one shot from this weapon can easily kill tier 5 TDs and critically damage tier 5 Mediums. The howitzer, with the right angle, can fire over the crest of hills due to its trajectory without exposing the turret and is also surprisingly accurate with a 100% crew. The gun is so borderline overpowered, it is not uncommon to find your opponents raging that you are using gold HEAT shells when really you are only use HE shells.

The less popular, but still useful option is to fit the 76 mm Gun M1A1, which fires much faster and is accurate enough for long range shots. The gun is effective against tier VI heavies, but by no means you should confront any opponent head on. Remember, the Sherman is a MEDIUM tank not a heavy.

The tank is a versatile tank, able to be fitted for a variety of roles, and is an excellent tank for its tier. However, like all mediums, the Sherman should advance from behind allied heavy tanks when possible, providing fire support or, when the situation allows it, flank distracted enemy heavies to cause confusion. Sniping is also possible in some matches when equipped with the 76 mm. The wide and very thick mantlet covering the turret front also allows it to challenge heavies of its tier from a hulldown position. In fact, with the Sherman's excellent gun depression, it is highly recommended that Sherman's take a hull down position or try to find cover in matches as the tank has lower armor compared to its tier V medium counterparts.
