when building the shapes during a Composition Spell, you will swipe to activate each "side" (technically you will light up the EDGES) of the shape. they will turn from plain gray to rainbow colored to show they are active. keep an eye on which ones you have activated. for this achievement, you must activate all the "sides" (edges) EXCEPT ONE. just leave one gray and make sure not to swipe when the cue comes up for that one.

EDIT: thanks to Xpovos for pointing out that the game says "side" when it means "edge". see their comment below for more info if the distinction is unclear.

XpovosThis solution is good, but I still had significant problems, partially due to terminology, so I wanted to add some clarification for anyone in my boat.

QuickMythril is spot on, you need to activate all "SIDES" of the composition spell, except one. The big hint is that the side will turn multi-colored when active and remain a solid neutral color when not yet activated. As this is a three-dimensional object, I would call this an EDGE.

The wire object fills in the FACES (A.K.A. SIDES in three-dimensional objects) as the composition spell gets further along. That is irrelevant to this achievement, and it probably simpler to earn this achievement without the spell ever reaching that point. You do need to fail the composition spell, so this will mean missing several cues, and not necessarily consecutive ones.

E.g. on the Tetrahedron spell, which I activated in the song "Message in a Bottle" in The Shoal for quickest access to the achievement: Your first cue will activate one edge. Usually, the second cue would activate two more edges, since it is a double. There are six edges in total on a tetrahedron, so you now have 3/6.

the Tetrahedron will rotate as the composition spell continues. Hit two more edges, but never hit the 6th. With 5 edges activated you can stop hitting any cues for the remainder of the song segment and the achievement will pop--in the middle of the song.

For the geometry nerds, out there this description will cause you to look in all the wrong places. Avoid an edge, not a side.

QuickMythrilgood call. i didn't consider it saying "side" might throw someone off instead of it saying "edge". i'll mention that in the solution.
