I read and tried various strategies and here is how I finally beat Red Square. Don't leave the vicinity of Red Square. Shoot down the bombers and ignore the fighters. Use rockets, even on planes. You or your wingmen will generally keep replenishing your rockets faster than you use them up. The rockets have a range of at least 2 kilometers, so shoot enemy ground units from a distance whenever you get a chance (like while you are orbiting Red Square shooting down the bombers). Although the ground units supposedly do a lot of damage, they don't until they get close, so your priority is the bombers, as they are doing damage immediately. Buildings shield the ground units, but most of the roads lead to Red Square so if you stay near the Square you usually get a better firing angle than if you leave the Square to attack the ground units directly.
Also use your wingmen as much as possible (of course).
When you clear Red Square and move to the next objective, don't attack the wedge of flak guns personally. Stay out of their range circles. Use the Katyusha rockets.
Last objective is the Dora railgun. Although it is in a steel cage, you can only hit the gun when the doors open for it to fire. You have to fire through the opening to hit the gun. Visually, this advice doesn't look right, but that's how it works (and your wingmen give you the same instructions).
